RV camping near Saint Marys, Ohio
Saint Marys sits in west-central Ohio on the eastern shore of Grand Lake, a 13,500-acre reservoir straddling Mercer and Auglaize counties. The town is the main service hub for the lake, with grocery, fuel, and dump-station access within a short drive of the state park entrance. RV travellers use Saint Marys as a base for flat, easy-driving trips across the Miami and Erie Canal corridor.
The headline campground is Grand Lake St Marys State Park, on the shores of Ohio's largest inland lake, with roughly 200 sites split across 148 electric sites, 33 full-hookup sites, and 10 non-electric sites, plus seven rustic cabins. Easy Campground offers a smaller, quieter alternative in the same area.
Other options within about an hour include Lake Loramie State Park to the southeast, Wapakoneta KOA Holiday off I-75, and Glacier Hill Lakes RV Resort. Together they cover the range from full-hookup private stays to basic state-park loops.
Things to do around Grand Lake
The lake anchors most activities. Grand Lake St Marys State Park offers 52 miles of shoreline for boating and fishing, plus a family campground, swimming pool, and picnic areas, and the 13,500-acre lake allows unlimited horsepower with a 300-foot no-wake zone enforced around the shoreline. Anglers target largemouth bass, white and black crappies, bluegills, walleye, channel and flathead catfish, yellow perch, bullheads, and carp.
On land, the park includes the 0.65-mile Red Wing Hiking Trail inside the campground and paved bank trails suited to cycling. Two fenced dog parks sit on opposite banks: Fur-Ever Friends on the East Bank and Celina Rotary on the West Bank. Swimming is not permitted in Grand Lake due to water quality concerns, though the campground pool and splash pad serve as alternatives.

Peak RV season runs from late spring through early fall, when the pool, splash pad, and camp store are fully staffed. Weekends fill quickly at Grand Lake St Marys and Lake Loramie, especially around summer holidays. Booking several months ahead is smart for prime lakeside sites.
Shoulder seasons work well for RV travellers who want space. Ohio State Parks designates November 1 to April 1 as the off-peak season at Grand Lake St Marys, with reduced services and fewer campers. Spring brings variable weather and higher water; fall delivers stable, cool days ideal for fishing and cycling the paved bank trails.
Winter camping is possible at the state park. The campground operates year-round, and under the proper conditions visitors can enjoy snowmobiling, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing. Expect frozen hydrants at outer loops in deep cold and confirm which restrooms remain open before arrival.
How to book campsites
Ohio State Parks use the ReserveOhio system. For Grand Lake St Marys State Park and Lake Loramie State Park, campsite reservations open six months to the day before arrival, online at reserveohio.com or by calling (866) 644-6727. New inventory releases at 7 a.m. Eastern, so set a calendar reminder for popular summer weekends.
Wapakoneta KOA Holiday books through the KOA reservation system directly. Glacier Hill Lakes RV Resort and Easy Campground take reservations through their own websites or by phone. For all sites, confirm rig length, slide clearance, and hookup type before booking, since paved pull-throughs at Grand Lake fit shorter combinations best.
What to expect on arrival
At Grand Lake St Marys State Park, all campground roads and site pads are paved, with both pull-through and back-in options, modern restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, and a dump station on site. The camp store offers supplies and bike rentals, and loans fishing gear and games to registered campers.
Pets are welcome on most sites but not permitted in or around the cabins. Each site has a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. Reviewers note that some loops feel open with limited shade while interior sections have mature trees. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the park, and Saint Marys has full services within a short drive of the East Bank entrance.

Ohio only requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for vehicles over 26,001 pounds, and virtually every rental on RVezy falls well under that limit. RVezy approved drivers must be 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? If a host cancels your trip, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits so you're not left stranded. Since hosts don't control cancellation terms, the experience is consistent across every listing in Saint Marys. Pro tip: book your Grand Lake RV trip early in the spring when availability is highest, knowing you've got the flexibility cushion behind you.

Pro tip: snap a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, it's the easiest way to keep everything smooth.
