Campgrounds and RV parks near Salineville, OH

At Jefferson Lake State Park, the day usually revolves around the water. The 17-acre lake is stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish and catfish, and non-motorized boats and boats with electric motors up to four horsepower are permitted. Eight multi-use trails covering roughly 18 miles wind through the surrounding oak and hickory hills, serving hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders. Beaver Creek State Park is the bigger day-out. The Dogwood, Pine Ridge and Vondergreen trails on the north side of Little Beaver Creek are part of the North Country Trail system, and the Pioneer Village includes a working grist mill, blacksmith shop, chapel, schoolhouse, covered bridge and a restored canal-era lock from the historic Sandy and Beaver Canal. Little Beaver Creek is also one of Ohio's best-known paddling streams, with swift currents through the gorge.

Eastern Ohio has a four-season humid continental climate, and camping conditions vary sharply through the year. Winter is cold and often snowy, with average January highs near freezing and regular snowfall. Ohio state-park campgrounds in this region generally stay open year-round, but day-use facilities such as the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center and the Pioneer Village buildings are closed outside the May-to-October volunteer season. Salem/Lisbon KOA Holiday operates year-round, with deluxe cabins and full-hookup sites available through the winter. Spring brings wildflowers along Little Beaver Creek and rising water on the streams, but it is also a wet stretch of the year, so trails can be muddy and low-lying sites soft. Late spring and early summer typically see the heaviest rainfall. Summer is peak season. The KOA's outdoor heated Olympic pool and splash pad run from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, and weekend sites fill well in advance. Fall is drier and cooler, with strong color in the oak and hickory ridges through October and quiet campgrounds after mid-month.

The state-park campgrounds near Salineville are rustic. Jefferson Lake has a mix of electric and non-electric sites with picnic tables, fire rings and pit latrines, but no full hookups. Beaver Creek's Family Camp is primarily non-electric with pit latrines, no showers, and no water available to fill camping vehicles. A dump station is available across from the Beaver Creek campground entrance. RV renters should arrive with full fresh-water tanks and empty holding tanks. Note that the one-lane bridge on Echo Dell Road at Beaver Creek cannot accommodate vehicles with trailers or RVs, so the Family Camp must be approached via Leslie Road off OH-7. Pets are permitted on all sites at both state parks on leash. For full hookups, 50-amp service, cable, Wi-Fi and a camp store, plan on Salem/Lisbon KOA Holiday instead.
