Campgrounds and RV parks near Shaker Heights, OH

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is home to landmarks like the Everett Covered Bridge and Brandywine Falls, plus the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail for biking and hiking. The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad runs through the park and stops at Peninsula and other trailside villages. Downtown Cleveland puts the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Great Lakes Science Center, and the West Side Market within a short drive. At the campgrounds themselves, families lean on on-site amenities. Streetsboro / Cleveland SE KOA Holiday has a seasonal swimming pool, fishing ponds, gem mining, a 9-hole disc golf course, and a KampK9 dog park, while Roundup Lake RV Park offers a heated pool, a sandy swimming beach, and watercraft rentals. Woodside Lake Park adds lake swimming and paddle craft.

Peak camping season in the area runs from May through October, and this is when nearly all private campgrounds are fully staffed with pools, activity programs, and camp stores open. Streetsboro / Cleveland SE KOA Holiday operates from May 1 through October 31 with full amenities, and other private parks in the area follow a similar seasonal calendar. Summer weekends and holidays book out earliest, especially at family-oriented resorts with lake and pool amenities. Ohio State Park campgrounds within reach of Shaker Heights release sites six months ahead, and popular summer weekends are often claimed the day the window opens. The same pattern applies to top private sites around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. Shoulder months in May and from September into mid-October trade cooler nights for lighter crowds and fall color on the Towpath. Winter travel is limited: most private campgrounds close, though several Ohio State Parks such as Punderson keep campsites open year-round with reduced amenities.

Expect a mix of resort-style private parks and quieter public campgrounds. The larger private resorts run planned family activities, pools, and camp stores, and sites tend to be closer together with a lively weekend atmosphere. Sites at Streetsboro / Cleveland SE KOA Holiday are gravel and mostly level, and the property is big-rig friendly, though some interior loops are tight. Roundup Lake RV Park features shaded pull-through sites that can accommodate larger rigs, and full-hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service are standard at the major parks. Bring leveling blocks, as some sites have a noticeable slope. Cell service is generally solid across the Cleveland suburbs and thinner in the Cuyahoga Valley itself. Grocery, propane, and RV supplies are easy to source in Streetsboro, Aurora, and Solon.
