Campgrounds near Sidney, Ohio
Sidney sits in Shelby County along I-75 in west-central Ohio, roughly midway between Dayton and Lima. The surrounding region is farm country with two state park lakes within a short drive, giving RV travelers a base for water recreation and quiet weeknight stays without long transit legs.
The closest options run from a small local RV service point at Poor Farmers RV Sales and Services and nearby Oakdale Campground in Quincy at 4611 State Route 235 to Lake Loramie State Park, a reservoir originally constructed as a feeder lake for the Miami-Erie Canal in the 1840s, about twenty minutes northwest, and Kiser Lake State Park to the southeast. Lake Loramie offers full-hookup sites with water, sewer, and electric, electric-only sites, and non-electric tent sites. Kiser Lake is a quieter no-motor lake.
Glacier Hill Lakes RV Resort adds a private-park alternative for travelers who want stocked-lake fishing and full hookups outside the state park reservation system.
Things to do around Sidney
At Lake Loramie State Park, families paddle the coves, fish from piers, and use the swim beach. Summer visitors enjoy the swimming beach, boating, and fishing on the 845-acre lake, and over 8 miles of hiking trails wind through the park, with portions following the historic canal towpath as part of both the Buckeye Trail and the North Country National Scenic Trail. Canoe rentals and bike rentals are available.
Kiser Lake State Park is the sailing and paddling stop. Sailing is popular at Kiser Lake as boats with motors are not permitted on the 396 acre lake. Kiser Lake offers good catches of largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie and wiper, and five fishing piers are located on the lake.
At Oakdale Campground, the Great Miami River is accessible for fishing, boating, or a leisurely float.

The main RV season runs late spring through mid-fall. Summer weekends fill fastest at both state parks, especially sites along the water. A 300-foot swimming beach at Kiser Lake is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Bugs are heaviest in June and July around the lakes, so shoulder weeks in late May or September tend to be more comfortable.
Spring brings variable weather and higher river flows on the Great Miami, which can leave low sites soft. The camping season at Oakdale spans from April 1st to October 31st. State parks stay open longer.
Winter camping is possible but limited to hardy self-contained RVs. Lake Loramie State Park Campground stays open year-round, with ice fishing, sledding and snowmobiling available when conditions allow. Kiser Lake State Park is also open in winter, though an off-peak season runs from November 1 to April 1 with reduced services.
How to book Sidney-area sites
Ohio state parks use a single reservation system. Sites at Lake Loramie and Kiser Lake are reserved through reserveohio.com or by calling (866) 644-6727, with reservations available up to six months in advance.
For summer weekends and holidays, book as soon as the six-month window opens. Waterfront and full-hookup sites at Lake Loramie go first. Check-in is 3PM for campsites and 4PM for cabins.
Private parks book separately. Oakdale Campground takes reservations by phone through the camp office at (937) 407-0031, and Glacier Hill Lakes RV Resort handles its own bookings. Contact each park directly for site type, rig-length limits, and cancellation terms before travel.
What to expect on-site
State park sites in this area are a mix of full-hookup, electric, and non-electric. Lake Loramie has 42 sites with full hook-ups, 4 lakeside and 4 ADA compliant, plus 120 electric sites. Kiser Lake has 10 tent-only campsites, 20 electric campsites, and 56 non-electric campsites, with RV length up to 55 feet on electric sites and up to 35 feet on non-electric sites.
Expect open, grassy sites with limited shade at Kiser and a mix of wooded and open sites at Lake Loramie. Kiser Lake State Park Campground offers electric sites with lake views and paved parking pads, with a bathhouse open year-round and drinking water available from spigots throughout the campground.
At Oakdale, expect a smaller private park with basic services. Each campsite includes 30 amp electric hookups, water from an on-site artesian well, and ample space, plus well-maintained restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Sidney, OH
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Sidney, OH?
RV rental in Sidney is one of the most affordable ways to explore west central Ohio. On RVezy, travel trailers near Sidney typically run about $75 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $150 to $250, and larger Class A coaches sit around $200 to $350 nightly. Mid-week pickups (Sunday through Thursday) are often the cheapest, since summer weekends near Lake Loramie and Indian Lake book up fast. For a cheap RV rental in Sidney, filter by travel trailers and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: Sidney's location about 35 miles north of Dayton means you can score lower nightly rates here than in the Dayton metro and still hit the same attractions.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sidney%2C%20OhioDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Sidney, Ohio?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Sidney, Ohio. Ohio does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every RV on RVezy. You'll just need to be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the RVezy platform when you book. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto club. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the paperwork is, so you can focus on planning the fun stuff instead.
bmv.ohio.gov/licensing-id/license/lic-types-classesWhat protection is included with my RVezy booking in Sidney?
Every RV rental in Sidney comes with a built-in renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level (Standard, Plus, or Premium) during checkout based on how much extra cushion you want. Hosts don't pick the level for you, so you're always in control. Tip: if it's your first time renting an RV, choosing a higher-tier plan costs a little more per night but pays off in confidence the moment you back into your first campsite at Lake Loramie.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Sidney RV rental?
Booking an RV in Sidney is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy. Every reservation comes with a standardized grace period right after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, plus structured refund tiers depending on how far out you are from your trip start date. You won't see different cancellation rules listed on each RV because the policy is handled centrally by RVezy. If a host cancels on you, RVezy provides a full refund or travel credit so your plans aren't left in limbo. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Lake Loramie and Indian Lake weekends, knowing you have built-in flexibility if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Sidney RV trip?
Absolutely, Sidney is a fantastic destination for a pet-friendly RV rental. Many RVezy hosts in Shelby County welcome dogs (and sometimes cats), and you can use the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page to see only those listings instantly. Once you're here, your pup will love the leashed trails at Tawawa Park along Tawawa Creek and the open shoreline at Lake Loramie State Park, which both allow dogs in their day-use and campground areas. Always message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any breed or size notes. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, since summer afternoons in Sidney can climb into the upper 80s and shaded rest stops fill up fast.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/lake-loramie-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Sidney?
Yes, RV delivery in Sidney is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're new to towing or driving a motorhome. Many RVezy hosts in the Sidney and Shelby County area offer delivery and full setup directly to nearby campgrounds like Lake Loramie State Park, Indian Lake State Park, or a private destination such as Poor Farmer's Campground in Fletcher. The host arrives, levels the rig, hooks up water and power, and walks you through everything before handing over the keys. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on RVezy and message two or three hosts to compare rates, since this is the secret weapon of first-time renters in Sidney.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/lake-loramie-state-parkHow far can I drive on a Sidney RV rental, and is unlimited mileage available?
You've got plenty of road to explore from Sidney, and RV rental with unlimited mileage is offered by a number of RVezy hosts in the area. Most hosts include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day) with reasonable per-mile fees after that, while others advertise unlimited miles right in the listing. Sidney's central Ohio location is ideal for a Sidney RV trip because you're about 35 miles from Dayton, 90 miles from Columbus, 110 miles from Cincinnati, and roughly 160 miles from Lake Erie. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-stop loop through Hocking Hills or up to the lake, filter for unlimited mileage upfront so you can roam without watching the odometer.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sidney%2C%20OhioWhere are the best campgrounds near Sidney, OH for an RV stay?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Sidney. Lake Loramie State Park (about 16 miles west in Minster) offers electric sites, lakefront access, and 30 miles of shoreline on a 1,600-acre lake. Indian Lake State Park (roughly 25 miles northeast) has full and electric hookup sites plus boating and swimming beaches. Kiser Lake State Park (about 20 miles southeast) features quieter electric sites with a no-motor lake perfect for paddling. For private options, Poor Farmer's Campground in Fletcher and Stillwater RV Park serve travelers wanting full hookups. Pro tip: state park sites at Lake Loramie often sell out 4 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends, so book your campground before you book your RV.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/lake-loramie-state-parkWhen is the best time of year to visit Sidney in an RV?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for an RV road trip from Sidney, with June and September arguably the most comfortable months. Summer highs in Sidney average 82 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit with warm, humid evenings perfect for campfires, while spring (April to mid-May) brings blooming dogwoods at Tawawa Park and cooler 60s. Fall foliage typically peaks mid-to-late October when daytime temps drop into the upper 60s. Winters here can dip into the teens with occasional snow, so most state park campgrounds run a full-service season from April through October. Pro tip: time your visit for early October to catch crisp leaf-peeping weather plus smaller crowds at Lake Loramie and Indian Lake.
weather.gov/iln/I'm a first-time RV renter in Sidney. How will I know what I'm doing?
You're in good hands, and first time renting an RV in Sidney is genuinely easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery, if you choose that option), covering how to operate the slide-outs, awning, water system, propane, generator, and dump valves. You'll leave knowing exactly how to set up at your campsite. Hosts are also reachable by message throughout your trip if you have a question. Sidney's flat west-central Ohio terrain and grid-style roads make it one of the easier places in the state to get comfortable behind the wheel. Pro tip: do a short practice drive to Tawawa Park before pointing the rig toward Lake Loramie, and you'll feel like a pro by sunset.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rv-safetyWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Sidney trip?
Take a breath, you're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat tire on US-36, a dead battery at Lake Loramie, or a mechanical issue heading toward Dayton, help is one phone call away. Roadside assistance handles tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. You can also message your host directly, since RV owners often know exactly which Sidney or Piqua mechanic to call for their specific rig. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after every trip too. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the roadside assistance number in the RV's welcome binder as soon as you pick up.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat are the best road trips from Sidney, OH?
Sidney is a perfect launch pad for an RV road trip thanks to its position on Interstate 75 in west central Ohio. Popular routes include Hocking Hills State Park about 130 miles southeast (roughly 2.5 hours) for waterfalls and cliff hiking, Lake Erie at Sandusky and Cedar Point about 140 miles north (around 2.5 hours), Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky about 320 miles south (around 5 hours), and the Smoky Mountains roughly 425 miles southeast. For a shorter weekend, head 36 miles south to Dayton for the National Museum of the US Air Force. Travel between Ohio and neighboring US states is fully covered by your RVezy protection. Pro tip: a Sidney to Lake Erie loop via US-23 is the classic Ohio family RV trip.
transportation.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/odot/travelWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I expect for a Sidney RV trip?
Budgeting fuel for a motorhome rental in Sidney is straightforward once you know the ballparks. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 mpg, Class A coaches 6 to 10 mpg, and a midsize SUV pulling a travel trailer usually 10 to 14 mpg. Ohio gas prices generally run slightly below the national average, with stations along I-75 in Sidney and Piqua offering some of the most competitive prices in the region. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop in a Class C, plan roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Pilot or Love's just off I-75 Exit 92 in Sidney before heading toward Lake Loramie, where rural pumps tend to be pricier.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead do I need to book a campground near Sidney?
For Ohio state park campgrounds near Sidney, the magic window is 6 months in advance, which is the maximum booking lead time through the official ReserveOhio system. Lake Loramie, Indian Lake, and Kiser Lake fill their best lakefront and electric sites for summer weekends (Memorial Day through Labor Day) within days of the booking window opening. Private parks like Poor Farmer's and Stillwater RV Park are more flexible but still fill up for July 4th and Labor Day weekends. Mid-week stays are almost always available with shorter notice. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly 6 months before your desired arrival and log in to ReserveOhio at 9 a.m. eastern when sites release.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/reserve-a-place-to-stayWhat are the local driving conditions like around Sidney, OH?
Driving an RV in and around Sidney is refreshingly easy compared to a major metro. The terrain is flat to gently rolling, elevations sit around 950 feet, and the main highways (I-75, US-36, and SR-29) are wide with generous shoulders and clearly marked rest areas. Watch for occasional summer thunderstorms with gusty crosswinds along open stretches of I-75, and slow down on rural two-lane roads where Amish horse-drawn buggies are common near Fort Loramie and Anna. Winter brings the chance of lake-effect snow and ice from December through February. Pro tip: avoid downtown Sidney's narrow Court Street at rush hour with a larger Class A, and use the wider Wapakoneta Avenue corridor to reach I-75 instead.
transportation.ohio.gov/programs/ohgoWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Sidney?
Campgrounds near Sidney are well-equipped for a smooth RV stay. Lake Loramie State Park offers electric (some 50-amp) and full-hookup sites, hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and a camp store. Indian Lake State Park provides full hookups, laundry, and a swimming beach. Kiser Lake State Park has electric sites with a centralized dump station. Most private parks in Shelby and Miami counties include 30/50-amp service, sewer, Wi-Fi, and propane refills. You'll find potable water fill stations at every Ohio state park campground entrance, and dump stations are free for registered campers. Pro tip: top off fresh water at the campground before you arrive at your specific site, since some loops at Lake Loramie don't have site-level water hookups.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/lake-loramie-state-parkWhat should I expect inside a Sidney RV rental?
You'll find that RV rentals in Sidney are essentially small apartments on wheels. Most travel trailers and Class C motorhomes sleep 4 to 8 with a queen bed, convertible dinette, bunks, and sometimes a sofa bed. Expect a working kitchen with a fridge, freezer, propane stovetop, microwave, and sink, plus a full bathroom with toilet, shower, and vanity. Air conditioning, furnace heat, and a TV are standard, and many listings include a generator, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and a power awning. Wi-Fi varies by host and rural Shelby County cell coverage can be spotty, so download Netflix shows before you leave. Pro tip: confirm seatbelt count in the listing if you're traveling with kids, since legal travel seating may be fewer than the sleeping capacity.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rv-safetyWhat add-ons can I get with my Sidney RV rental?
Sidney hosts make it easy to customize your trip with popular add-ons booked right inside the RVezy listing. Common options include kitchen and linen kits ($50 to $100), camping chairs and outdoor mats ($25 to $50), bike racks, portable propane fire pits, generators, and Starlink or hotspot rentals. Delivery and setup is the most popular extra in Shelby County, often priced per mile from the host's home base. Pickup and drop-off are typically at the host's address, though delivery to Lake Loramie, Indian Lake, or Tawawa Park is widely offered. Mileage policies vary, with 100 to 150 free miles per day being typical. Pro tip: bundle linens, kitchen kit, and a fire pit at booking to save versus adding them later.
fmcsa.dot.gov/protect-your-moveHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Sidney RV rental?
Payment for your RV rental in Sidney is simple and fully handled through the secure RVezy platform, so you never exchange cash or cards with the host. You'll pay your rental total upfront with a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is processed separately from your booking payment shortly before pickup. As long as the RV comes back in the same condition with no extra mileage, generator hours, or cleaning needed, the deposit is released back to you after the trip. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with the host at both pickup and drop-off in Sidney, so there's a clear record that protects everyone and keeps your deposit return fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take my Sidney RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, travel across US state lines is fully supported on RVezy, so you can confidently plan an RV road trip from Sidney into Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania, or beyond. The protection plan and roadside assistance travel with you anywhere in the continental United States. Travel into Canada requires the host's prior approval before booking, since insurance terms need to be verified for cross-border travel, so message the host first if Niagara Falls or Toronto is on your list. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: from Sidney, the most popular cross-state RV trips head to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, the Indiana Dunes, or up to Michigan's Sleeping Bear Dunes.
