Campgrounds and RV parks near Spencerville, OH

Grand Lake St. Marys is the main outdoor draw. The park offers 52 miles of shoreline for boating and fishing, plus a family campground, swimming pool, and picnic areas. Largemouth bass, crappies, bluegills, walleye, channel and flathead catfish, yellow perch, bullheads, and carp are found in the lake. Swimming in the lake itself is restricted due to water-quality advisories, so families typically use the park pool and splash pad instead. Off the water, the towpath and remnants of the Miami and Erie Canal run through Spencerville and nearby towns, with preserved locks and interpretive stops. Wapakoneta is home to the Armstrong Air and Space Museum, and New Bremen has the Bicycle Museum of America. Wapakoneta KOA Holiday adds a seasonal heated pool, miniature golf, gem mining, horseshoes, cornhole, hayrides on summer weekends, and themed weekend activities.

Western Ohio has four clear seasons. Summer is the peak RV window, with warm days, long evenings, and full programming at private parks. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day book out earliest at Grand Lake St Marys State Park and at Wapakoneta KOA Holiday, so travelers should reserve well ahead for those dates. Spring and fall are quieter and generally cooler, with spring bringing the region's wettest stretch. May is the wettest month in nearby Lima, with rainfall averaging around 3.6 inches over roughly 19 days. Fall foliage peaks in mid to late October and pairs well with lakeside sites before private parks close for the season. Winter camping is limited but possible at the state park. Grand Lake St Marys State Park is open year-round, with reservations available up to six months in advance through ReserveOhio. Most private campgrounds in the area operate on a seasonal schedule, with Wapakoneta KOA Holiday typically open from April 1 through October 31.

Terrain is flat farmland with mature trees around the lake and creek corridors. At Grand Lake St Marys State Park, expect a large, level campground with paved roads and pads. The campground offers around 200 sites: 148 electric, 33 full hookup with water and sewer, and 10 standard non-electric, plus seven rustic rental cabins. Both pull-through and back-in options are available, and reviewers note that pull-through sites work best for units under 35 feet if towing a vehicle. A dump station, flush toilets, and hot showers are on site. Private parks in the area lean family friendly, with pools, playgrounds, and organized weekend activities. Wapakoneta KOA Holiday is a compact park where extra vehicles may need to use an overflow lot. Cell coverage is generally reliable, and grocery, fuel, and RV supplies are available in St. Marys, Wapakoneta, and Lima.
