Campgrounds and RV parks near Tiltonsville, OH

The Ohio River corridor drives most recreation here. Fishing, boating, and riverfront walks are common close to town, and short drives lead to Wheeling, West Virginia, for Oglebay Resort, Wheeling Island, and the Wheeling Suspension Bridge. Moundsville adds the Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex and the former West Virginia Penitentiary. Jefferson Lake State Park has a 17-acre lake for non-motorized boating and fishing, a public swimming beach, and hiking trails through oak and hickory forest. Grand Vue Park layers on a heated pool, mini-golf, zip lines, disc golf, and hiking trails on a ridge above the valley. For day trips, Tappan Lake and Piedmont Lake sit within an hour to the west, and Pittsburgh is about an hour northeast for a city day.

The main camping season in the Ohio Valley runs from late April through October. Most private parks in the area open around mid-to-late April and close by the end of October, and Grand Vue Park keeps a reduced footprint from December through early April with only one bathhouse and a minimal number of RV sites available during that window. Summer is the peak booking window. Weekends in June, July, and August fill first, especially around Independence Day and Labor Day, and holiday weekends at Grand Vue often sell out well in advance because of on-site events. Weekday arrivals are usually easier to secure. Spring and fall are quieter and cooler, with fall foliage typically peaking in mid-to-late October across the hills of eastern Ohio and the northern West Virginia panhandle. Winter camping is limited in the area, and Jefferson Lake State Park sites are primitive with latrines and water fountains rather than full hookups, so cold-season stays require preparation.

Terrain in this part of the Ohio Valley is hilly, with narrow river-bottom roads and steep grades on the approaches to ridge-top parks. Larger rigs should map the route in advance, especially heading to Grand Vue Park, which sits on a ridge above Moundsville and has a paved main road but back-in sites on gravel pads up to about 50 feet. Expect full hookups with 30 and 50-amp service at private parks in the area, and more basic amenities at Jefferson Lake State Park, where most sites are non-electric and geared to tents and smaller trailers. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the river and along interstates, but can drop in the hollows around inland state park land. Keep food secured against raccoons, and plan grocery runs in Steubenville, Wheeling, or Moundsville.
