Campgrounds near University Heights
University Heights sits on Cleveland's east side, roughly ten miles from downtown and within an hour's drive of Northeast Ohio's main camping corridor along the Ohio Turnpike (I-80) and State Route 303. RV renters based here have quick access to private parks in Streetsboro, Mantua, and the Aurora area, plus one of the region's most popular state park campgrounds at Punderson.
Maywood Community is a smaller nearby option. For full-service RV amenities, Streetsboro / Cleveland SE KOA Holiday and Woodside Lake Park sit near Ohio Turnpike Exit 187, while Roundup Lake RV Park is a larger resort in Mantua with a spring-fed lake, sandy beach, and more than 350 sites.
For a public-land experience, Punderson State Park in Newbury offers electric and full-service sites on one of Ohio's largest natural kettle lakes, about 30 minutes east of University Heights. The mix of private resorts and one state park gives renters a choice between amenity-heavy family stays and quieter, lake-focused camping.
Things to do near University Heights
Cuyahoga Valley National Park is the region's headline attraction, with hiking, waterfalls including Brandywine Falls, and the scenic railroad. The park sits between University Heights and the Streetsboro campground cluster, making day trips easy from any of the RV bases listed above.
On-site recreation varies by campground. Roundup Lake RV Park has a swimming beach, heated pool, watercraft rentals, mini golf, and lake inflatables. Streetsboro / Cleveland SE KOA Holiday adds a seasonal heated pool, fishing ponds, a nine-hole disc golf course, gem mining, and a dog park. Punderson State Park offers paddling, fishing, hiking, and disc golf on-site, plus an 18-hole public golf course. Cleveland attractions such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are a short drive west.

Northeast Ohio has a humid continental climate with strong seasonal contrasts. Cleveland winters are cold and snowy, often intensified by lake-effect snow off Lake Erie, and from November through March temperatures can stay below freezing all day. Private campgrounds in the area operate on a warm-season schedule: Streetsboro / Cleveland SE KOA Holiday, for example, runs from May 1 through October 31 with full amenities.
Late spring through early fall is the practical booking window. May through September brings the most comfortable weather, with July the warmest and typically the wettest month. Summer weekends and holidays fill early at resort-style parks like Roundup Lake RV Park and Woodside Lake Park, especially given heavy seasonal-site occupancy.
Punderson State Park is open year-round, though water and sewer hookups are shut off beginning October 31 for the winter. Park amenities include winter recreation like sledding and cross-country skiing. Fall foliage in Geauga County peaks in October and pairs well with the shoulder-season lull at private parks.

How to book a campsite
Ohio State Parks, including Punderson, take reservations through the ReserveOhio system, online or by phone at (866) 644-6727. Sites can be booked up to six months in advance, and reservations are required for all campsites. Summer weekends at Punderson sell out early, so booking near the six-month window is recommended for peak dates.
Private resorts each use their own systems. Streetsboro / Cleveland SE KOA Holiday books through the KOA website or by phone and requires a seven-day cancellation notice for RV and tent sites, a fourteen-day notice for cabins and lodging, and a two-week notice on holiday weekends. Roundup Lake Campground books through its own site and Campspot, and Woodside Lake Park handles reservations directly. Because many private parks near Streetsboro and Mantua carry heavy seasonal-camper occupancy, transient RV sites are limited on summer weekends, so reserve well ahead.
What to expect on arrival
Most campgrounds in this corridor cluster off Ohio Turnpike Exit 187 or along State Route 303, and roads leading in are paved and well-marked. Check-in times vary, but late-afternoon arrivals are standard at KOA and resort properties. Interior roads at some private parks are narrower, which is worth noting for larger Class A rigs and long fifth wheels.
Expect full hookups (30 and 50 amp), potable water, dump stations, and Wi-Fi at the private resorts. Punderson State Park has a mix of non-electric, electric, and full-service sites, plus shower houses, a dump station, and pet-friendly loops. Cell coverage is generally solid on major carriers across the Streetsboro and University Heights area.
Firewood policies vary. Buy locally at the camp store to comply with Ohio's rules discouraging out-of-area firewood transport, especially near state parks.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near University Heights, OH
How much does it cost for an RV rental in University Heights, OH?
An RV rental in University Heights typically runs between $90 and $250 per night, with travel trailers on the affordable end and Class A motorhomes at the premium end. Since RVezy is a peer-to-peer marketplace, real local owners set their own pricing, which means you can often find a cheap RV rental in University Heights for less than a traditional rental agency. To save money, book midweek, travel in shoulder season (April or late September), and use the price filter to sort listings by budget. Many University Heights and Greater Cleveland hosts offer weekly discounts, so a 7-night Lake Erie loop can cost less per night than a weekend getaway.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=University%20Heights%2C%20OhioDo I need a special license to rent an RV in University Heights, Ohio?
Good news: a regular Ohio driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in University Heights. There's no CDL or special endorsement required for any Class A, Class B, Class C, travel trailer, or fifth wheel rental on RVezy, even the larger 35-foot rigs that head out to Cuyahoga Valley National Park. You'll just need to be 25 or older to be an approved driver, and RVezy verifies your ID through the booking platform, so the process is fully online. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your home country auto association before your trip and you're ready to roll.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection and roadside assistance is included with my RVezy booking?
Every RVezy booking in University Heights includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-271 or head down to Cuyahoga Valley with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose the level of coverage during checkout. If you get a flat tire on Mayfield Road or need a tow from a campground in Geauga County, one call connects you to roadside help any time of day or night. The protection plan gives renters meaningful financial protection so you can focus on the trip, not the what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my University Heights RV rental?
You're never locked in the moment you book. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation (not the individual host), and it includes a grace period right after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, refunds depend on how far out your trip is. Because RVezy handles cancellations centrally, you'll always know who to contact and the rules are consistent across every University Heights listing. Book early to lock in the best rigs for Cleveland summer weekends and Cuyahoga Valley fall foliage trips, knowing you have flexibility if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in University Heights?
Absolutely, plenty of University Heights hosts welcome dogs and cats. Just use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see every pet-friendly RV rental in University Heights at a glance, and message the host to share your pet's size and breed before booking. Once you're on the road, your pup will love the trails at nearby Cain Park, the dog-friendly Towpath Trail in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and the leashed pet sites at Punderson State Park Campground in Newbury. Pack a collapsible water bowl and a towel for muddy Ohio spring trails, and confirm any cleaning fee with your host so check-out is smooth.
nps.gov/cuva/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or home in University Heights?
Yes, RV delivery in University Heights is one of the most popular options on the platform, and it's a game-changer if you're a first-time renter. Many local hosts will drive the RV directly to your driveway, a Cuyahoga Valley-area campground, or even Geneva State Park on Lake Erie, then level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter to see hosts who offer this service and their per-mile fees. Delivery is especially smart for travel trailers and fifth wheels since you won't need to tow through Cleveland traffic on I-271 or I-480.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=University%20Heights%2C%20OhioHow many miles can I drive, and is unlimited mileage available?
Mileage is set per listing, with most University Heights hosts including 100 to 150 free miles per night, and a growing number offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. That's plenty of range for a Cuyahoga Valley National Park weekend (about 25 miles south), a Geneva-on-the-Lake wine country run (about 60 miles east), or a quick hop to Mentor Headlands Beach (about 30 miles northeast). Extra miles typically cost $0.30 to $0.50 each, and you can see the exact policy before booking on every listing. If you're planning a longer RV road trip from University Heights to Niagara Falls or the Finger Lakes, filter for unlimited-mileage rigs to skip the math entirely.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=University%20Heights%2C%20OhioWhere are the best campgrounds near University Heights for an RV trip?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping near University Heights. Punderson State Park Campground in Newbury (about 25 miles east) offers wooded sites with electric and full-hookup options on a natural kettle lake. Streetsboro / Cleveland SE KOA is about 30 miles south with pull-throughs and a pool, great for families. Geneva State Park Campground (about 60 miles northeast on Lake Erie) includes lakefront full-hookup pads with sunset views. Woodside Lake Park in Streetsboro adds a water park vibe for kids. Book Ohio state park sites at reserveohio.com, and Punderson lakefront sites tend to go fast for summer weekends.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/punderson-state-parkWhen is the best time of year to take an RV trip from University Heights?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for an RV trip from University Heights, with summer highs typically in the low 80s Fahrenheit and pleasant Lake Erie breezes. Fall (late September through mid-October) is arguably the most magical time, when Cuyahoga Valley National Park bursts into red and gold and campground rates ease up. Spring brings 50 to 65 degree days, ideal for towpath biking and fewer crowds. Winters in Greater Cleveland are cold and snowy, so most local campgrounds close from November to April. Book the first weekend of October at Punderson or Geneva State Park for peak foliage with comfortable sleeping temperatures.
weather.gov/cle/I've never rented an RV before. Will I actually know how to use everything?
First time renting an RV? You're in great hands. Every RVezy host in University Heights provides a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery if they bring the RV to you), walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water system, propane, awning, and dump procedures. You can also message your host any time during the trip with questions. Class C motorhomes and smaller travel trailers are the easiest for beginners, and many hosts include printed cheat sheets. Plan your first night close to home at a full-hookup site like Streetsboro/Cleveland SE KOA so you can practice connections before tackling a Cuyahoga Valley dry-camping setup later in the trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're covered 24/7. Every motorhome rental in University Heights booked through RVezy includes round-the-clock roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan. Whether it's a dead battery in a Beachwood Place parking lot, a flat tire on I-90 near Mentor, or a mechanical issue at Geneva State Park, one phone call dispatches help. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after every trip to coordinate solutions with your host. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave University Heights, and snap a photo of the RV's plate and VIN so you can share details quickly if needed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across state lines or up to Canada from University Heights?
Yes, interstate travel is standard for an RV road trip from University Heights, and popular routes include Pittsburgh (about 135 miles southeast), Niagara Falls (about 200 miles east), and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Many hosts also allow cross-border travel into Canada since you're only about 3.5 hours from the Peace Bridge, but confirm this with the host before booking so they can prepare the proper insurance documents. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance limitations. Bring your passport for Canada trips and ask your host for the vehicle registration and a written authorization letter for the border.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of gas mileage do RVs get, and how should I budget for fuel?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost on a campervan rental University Heights trip, so it's smart to plan ahead. Class B campervans get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, and large Class A rigs run 6 to 10 mpg. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. With Cleveland-area gas prices typical for the Midwest, a round trip from University Heights to Cuyahoga Valley National Park (about 50 miles) is an affordable fuel outing in a Class C. Check current Ohio fuel averages at the EIA before you leave, and fill up at warehouse club stations in Mayfield Heights for the cheapest local prices.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near University Heights?
For Ohio State Parks like Punderson, Geneva, and West Branch, book through reserveohio.com up to six months in advance, and don't wait if you want summer weekends or fall foliage dates in early October. Private parks like Streetsboro/Cleveland SE KOA and Sun Retreats Geneva on the Lake open reservations even earlier and fill up for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. Midweek availability is much easier, often bookable just days out. If you strike out on a Geneva State Park lakefront site, set up a check-in alert for Sunday-night cancellations, which are common as weekenders adjust plans.
reserveohio.com/What are driving conditions like around University Heights and Greater Cleveland?
University Heights sits in an inner-ring Cleveland suburb with easy access to I-271, I-480, and I-90, and most drivers find RV handling around the eastern suburbs very manageable outside of weekday rush hour (roughly 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6:30 p.m.). Avoid driving tall rigs through downtown Cleveland's narrow streets and watch for low clearances on some Cedar Road and Mayfield Road underpasses. Winter brings lake-effect snow from November through March, which is why most rentals are seasonal. Take Cedar Road or Chagrin Boulevard east out of University Heights to skip the Inner Belt entirely on your way to Cuyahoga Valley or Geauga County campgrounds.
ohgo.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near University Heights?
Campgrounds in northeast Ohio are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. At Punderson State Park you'll find electric sites plus full-hookup pads with 30 and 50-amp service, water, sewer, a dump station, hot showers, and flush toilets. Geneva State Park adds full-hookup sites, laundry, and a fish-cleaning station right by Lake Erie. Streetsboro/Cleveland SE KOA has full hookups, a pool, and a camp store. Need to dump tanks between trips? Ohio Turnpike service plazas have dump stations and potable water. Arrive before 7 p.m. to make leveling and hookups easier in daylight, especially at Punderson's sloped wooded sites.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/punderson-state-parkWhat's actually inside an RV rental from University Heights?
Most University Heights RV rentals come fully equipped so you can move right in. Expect a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette or bunks (sleeping 4 to 8 depending on the rig), a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, microwave, propane stove, and sink, plus a bathroom with shower, toilet, and hot water tank. Many also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, roof A/C, furnace, generator, awning, and outdoor camp chairs. Class C motorhomes have seatbelted seating so the whole family can ride together legally on Ohio roads. Check each listing's amenities tab for Wi-Fi hotspots and solar panels, which are increasingly common on Cleveland-area Class B campervans.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=University%20Heights%2C%20OhioWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in University Heights?
Hosts in University Heights offer a wide range of add-ons that can make your trip easier, including kitchen kits, linen and towel packages, bike racks, generators, portable grills, propane fire pits, and even pre-stocked groceries. Common pickup logistics include in-person walkthroughs at the host's home, delivery to your address in University Heights, or drop-off at a regional campground (often $2 to $4 per mile). Mileage and generator-hour policies are listed clearly on each listing. Ask about a dump-and-clean add-on if you'd rather skip emptying the black tank yourself, it's usually $50 to $100 and worth it for first-timers.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=University%20Heights%2C%20OhioHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through RVezy, so you'll never pay the host directly. You pay through the RVezy platform via credit card, and a separate refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup. As long as you return the RV in the same condition with the agreed-upon fuel level and clean tanks, the hold is released after trip end. Take timestamped photos and a short video of the RV at pickup and drop-off in your University Heights driveway or the host's location, it's the easiest way to keep your full deposit and avoid any disputes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I prep a University Heights RV rental for cold or shoulder-season weather?
Northeast Ohio shoulder seasons are gorgeous but chilly, so a little prep goes a long way. Many University Heights hosts list RVs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and propane furnaces that handle April and October nights in the 30s and 40s with ease. For early spring or late fall trips to Cuyahoga Valley National Park or Geneva State Park, plug into shore power whenever possible, keep a small space heater as backup, and let faucets drip on freezing nights to prevent line damage. Ask your host whether the rig has been winterized, and if you're booking December through March, look specifically for four-season rated motorhomes built for snowy Lake Erie weather.
