Campgrounds near Urbana, Ohio
Urbana sits in Champaign County in west-central Ohio, roughly 45 miles west of Columbus and 35 miles north of Dayton. The area gives RV travelers access to two Ohio state park campgrounds and several private RV parks within a 30-minute drive, most positioned between rolling farmland, glacial-carved wetlands, and reservoir lakes.
Kiser Lake State Park, about 15 miles northwest of Urbana near St. Paris, is a quiet, no-motor lake known for sailing and paddling. Buck Creek State Park, roughly 20 miles south near Springfield, wraps the 2,120-acre C.J. Brown Reservoir and allows unlimited-horsepower boating. Both are booked through the ReserveOhio state parks system.
Private options add flexibility for travelers who want full hookups and family amenities. Rittenhouse Resort sits near Urbana itself. Tomorrow's Stars RV Resort is off I-70 in the South Charleston area, convenient for big rigs. Oak Crest Campgrounds rounds out the nearby private inventory. Together these five parks cover most trip styles, from state-park lake camping to full-service resort stays.
Things to do near Urbana
Water recreation drives most trips. Buck Creek State Park has a 2,400-foot sand beach, a five-lane boat ramp, and a full-service marina on C.J. Brown Reservoir. Kiser Lake State Park bans motorboats, which keeps its 396-acre lake quiet for sailing, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, and wiper.
On land, Buck Creek offers a 7.5-mile bridle trail plus the paved 6-mile Buck Creek Trail, which runs from the park to Plum Street in Springfield and connects to the Simon Kenton Trail. Kiser Lake has short trails through wooded hills and wetlands, and the adjacent Kiser Lake Wetlands Nature Preserve has a boardwalk trail. Nearby draws include Cedar Bog Nature Preserve near Urbana, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson, and Yellow Springs for shops and bike trails.

Spring brings the wettest stretch of the year in west-central Ohio. Sites drain slowly after storms, and lake levels can rise. Fall is the strongest shoulder season, with cooler nights, thinning crowds, and foliage color in October along the wooded shorelines and moraines around Kiser Lake.
Winter camping is limited. Buck Creek State Park Campground is closed for renovations through early summer 2026, with the 23 cabins still reservable during that period. Kiser Lake's campground remains available in the off-season on a first-come, first-served basis, though snow and ice can make maneuvering large rigs difficult on park roads. Private parks in the area operate on their own schedules, so confirm dates with the operator before travel.

How to book campgrounds near Urbana
Ohio state park sites at Kiser Lake and Buck Creek are reserved through ReserveOhio.com or by calling (866) 644-6727. Reservations open six months to the day prior to the arrival date for campsites and unique rentals, while cabins can be booked up to one year in advance. Buck Creek's campsites remain closed for renovations through early summer 2026, but the park's 23 cabins are bookable.
Private parks handle their own bookings. Rittenhouse Resort, Tomorrow's Stars RV Resort, and Oak Crest Campgrounds each take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and cancellation policies vary, so confirm terms before paying. For holiday weekends around the Fourth of July and Labor Day, plan to reserve well in advance at any of these parks.
What to expect on-site
Site setup varies widely. Buck Creek State Park has electric and non-electric sites plus 23 cabins in a wooded area, with flush toilets, showers, and a dump station when the campground is open. Kiser Lake offers around 77 campsites, a mix of electric and non-electric plus tent-only and ADA sites, along with four cabins. Electric sites at Kiser Lake are pull-through and accept RVs up to 55 feet, while non-electric sites are shorter and better suited to smaller rigs.
Private resorts skew larger and more amenity-heavy, and typically offer full hookups, 30- and 50-amp service, and family features like pools, playgrounds, and fishing ponds. Pets are permitted at both state parks with standard leash rules; confirm pet policies directly with each private resort before booking.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Urbana, OH
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Urbana, Ohio?
RV rental in Urbana is one of the most affordable ways to explore central Ohio, with most rigs ranging from about $95 to $250 per night depending on type and season. Travel trailers and pop-ups sit at the lower end, while Class C motorhomes and larger Class A coaches land at the higher end. For a cheap RV rental in Urbana, look at weekday bookings, shoulder months like April and October, and longer stays where hosts often discount the nightly rate. Pro tip: book mid-week trips that bridge a Sunday-to-Thursday window to skip the weekend price bump that hits during Indian Lake's summer boating season.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Urbana%2C%20OhioDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Urbana, Ohio?
Good news: for nearly every RV you can rent in Urbana, your regular driver's license is all you need. Ohio only requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for commercial vehicles over 26,001 pounds, and personal-use recreational vehicles are exempt. That covers every campervan, Class B, Class C, travel trailer, and the vast majority of Class A motorhomes on the platform. To book on RVezy, approved drivers generally need to be 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the platform when you book. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Grab an International Driving Permit before you fly in and you're set to rent an RV in Urbana with zero extra paperwork.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection and roadside help is included with my Urbana RV rental?
Every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road around Champaign County feeling fully covered. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle and gives you real financial peace of mind. You choose the coverage level that fits your trip at checkout, not the host. If you get a flat on US-68 heading to Indian Lake or your battery dies at a campground near Urbana, one phone call gets help dispatched. That safety net is a big reason first-time renters feel confident booking a motorhome rental in Urbana.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Urbana RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy across the platform (not the individual host), and it includes a money-back grace period after you book so you have breathing room to finalize plans. Depending on how far in advance you cancel and the circumstances, different refund options may apply. The policy is consistent across listings rather than buried in each one. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or provides credits so your trip plans aren't stranded. Pro tip: once your dates are locked, immediately reserve your campground on reserveohio.com to lock in matching flexibility on both ends of your Urbana RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Urbana?
Absolutely. There are plenty of pet-friendly RV rentals in Urbana, and you can filter directly by the Pet-Friendly tag on RVezy to see only listings that welcome your pup. Champaign County is a great spot for dogs: Melvin Miller Park has paved trails right in town, and Indian Lake State Park in nearby Lakeview allows leashed pets on hiking trails and at the campground. Kiser Lake State Park, just west of Urbana, is another favorite for a sniff-filled afternoon. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee or cleanup rules, and pack a collapsible water bowl for those warm Ohio summer afternoons.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/parks/indian-lake-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Urbana?
Yes, RV delivery in Urbana is a huge win for first-time renters, and many local hosts offer it. They'll drive the rig to your campground, driveway, or event site, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. It's the easiest way to enjoy a motorhome rental in Urbana without ever having to drive a big vehicle yourself. Popular drop spots include Indian Lake State Park and Kiser Lake State Park. Use the Delivery filter when searching, and message the host with your campsite number, arrival date, and any setup preferences to lock everything in.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Urbana%2C%20OhioHow does mileage work, and how far can I drive from Urbana?
Urbana's location in west-central Ohio puts you within easy day-trip range of dozens of great spots, and many hosts offer generous daily mileage allowances or RV rental with unlimited mileage on longer bookings. Each listing shows the mileage policy clearly before you book, so there are no surprises. From Urbana you can reach Indian Lake (about 25 miles), Dayton (about 40 miles), Columbus (about 50 miles), Hocking Hills State Park (about 110 miles southeast), and Cuyahoga Valley National Park (about 175 miles northeast). Pro tip: if you're planning a big loop through southern Ohio or down to the Ohio River, filter for listings with higher included mileage to keep costs predictable.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037959653-Understanding-mileage-and-generator-allowancesWhere are the best campgrounds near Urbana, Ohio?
You're spoiled for choice for RV camping near Urbana. Indian Lake State Park in Lakeview (about 25 miles north) offers hundreds of campsites with electric and full hookup options on Ohio's third-largest inland lake. Kiser Lake State Park, about 15 miles west, has electric sites in a quieter, no-motor-boat setting perfect for kayaking. Buck Creek State Park near Springfield (about 20 miles south) features electric sites and a swimming beach on a 2,120-acre lake. Book Ohio state park sites through reserveohio.com up to six months in advance, especially for summer weekends.
reserveohio.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Urbana?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for an RV road trip from Urbana, with comfortable highs in the 70s and 80s and most campgrounds in full swing. July and August are warmest (average highs in the mid-80s F) and best for swimming at Indian Lake, while late September and early October bring crisp 60s with brilliant fall color across Champaign County's farm country. Spring (April-May) is quieter and great for shoulder-season pricing, but pack rain gear since this region of Ohio averages around 40 inches of precipitation a year. Local insider tip: target the second weekend of October for peak leaf color along the Simon Kenton Trail rail-to-trail bikeway that runs right through Urbana.
weather.gov/iln/I've never rented an RV before. Will I know how to use it?
You'll be fine, and you won't be left to figure it out alone. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery) covering the generator, water systems, slide-outs, leveling, propane, and dump procedures. First time renting an RV? Start with a Class C motorhome or a 20-25 foot travel trailer, both forgiving on Urbana's flat, grid-style streets and easy to handle on US-36 and US-68. You can message your host any time before or during the trip with questions. Pro tip: do a short shakedown night at a closer campground like Kiser Lake before pushing on to a bigger destination, so you've got the systems dialed in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038070494-What-to-expect-during-your-RV-walkthroughWhat happens if something breaks down during my Urbana RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on State Route 29, a dead battery at an Indian Lake campsite, or a tow situation on I-70 is just one phone call away. RVezy also has a customer support team available before, during, and after every trip. For mechanical issues at camp, your host is often the fastest fix; many Urbana-area hosts live within a short drive and can swing by. Save the RVezy support number and your host's contact in your phone before you pull out, and you'll roll with total peace of mind.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038107054-Roadside-assistanceCan I take my Urbana RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Urbana into Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia, or Pennsylvania is totally doable and your protection plan travels with you across U.S. state lines. Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and protection plan, so message the host directly from the listing page before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Popular multi-state runs from Urbana include heading east to Pittsburgh (about 240 miles), north to Michigan's Sleeping Bear Dunes (around 360 miles), or south to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky (about 280 miles).
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how much should I budget for gas?
Realistic expectations help you nail your budget. Most Class C motorhomes get 8-12 MPG, Class B campervans manage 15-20 MPG, and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer typically runs 10-14 MPG. Gas prices in Champaign County, Ohio tend to track close to the state average, with several stations right off US-68 and US-36 in Urbana for easy fill-ups. For a 250-mile round trip to Hocking Hills in a Class C, plan on roughly $80-$110 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Urbana before heading toward Indian Lake; prices at lakeside convenience stops trend a bit higher in summer.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Urbana?
For Ohio state parks like Indian Lake, Kiser Lake, and Buck Creek, reservations open six months ahead on reserveohio.com, the state's official booking system. Summer weekends and any holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) often sell out the moment that six-month window opens, so set a calendar reminder. Weeknights and shoulder-season dates (late April, September, October) are usually bookable just days or weeks ahead. Private campgrounds near Urbana take reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Pro tip: if your dream lakefront site at Indian Lake is sold out, check daily, cancellations happen constantly as plans shift.
reserveohio.com/What are driving conditions like around Urbana?
Driving an RV around Urbana is genuinely beginner-friendly. The roads are flat, lanes are wide, and traffic is light compared to nearby Columbus or Dayton. US-68 and US-36 are the main arteries through town and handle big rigs comfortably. Watch for two seasonal things: spring thunderstorms (April-June) that can bring brief but heavy downpours, and winter snow squalls if you're traveling November through March. Avoid downtown Urbana's historic Monument Square area in a large Class A; tighter turns and lower tree branches near the courthouse can be tricky. Pro tip: I-70 east-west through Springfield is your fastest route to Columbus or Indianapolis, and it's flat the whole way.
transportation.ohio.gov/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Urbana?
Most campgrounds near Urbana are well-equipped. Indian Lake State Park offers a mix of full hookup sites (water, sewer, and electric), electric-only sites, and tent areas, plus heated showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and a camp store. Kiser Lake State Park has electric sites and restrooms with showers. Buck Creek State Park provides electric sites, a dump station, beach access, and laundry. The Indian Lake State Park dump station is available to registered campers. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose and both 30- and 50-amp electrical adapters, the small variations between Ohio state park sites are worth being ready for.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/parks/indian-lake-state-parkWhat's actually inside the RVs you can rent in Urbana?
Even the most affordable rigs come surprisingly well-stocked. A typical Class C motorhome rental in Urbana sleeps 4-6, with a queen bed, dinette and cab-over beds, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a wet or dry bath with toilet and shower, air conditioning, furnace heat, and seatbelts for travel. Many include a TV, and some hosts offer onboard Wi-Fi or a generator add-on. Campervan rental in Urbana (Class B) is sleeker: queen bed, small kitchen, and a wet bath in a vehicle you can park almost anywhere. Larger Class A and fifth-wheel options can add washer/dryer combos, larger fridges, and outdoor kitchens. Each listing shows the exact spec list before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Urbana%2C%20OhioWhat add-ons can I include, and what about pickup and drop-off?
Hosts in Urbana commonly offer helpful add-ons like camping chairs and tables, kitchen kits, bedding and linen packages, generators, propane refills, bike racks, and even kayaks for Indian Lake. Delivery and setup is the most popular extra, with pricing usually based on a per-mile rate from the host's address. Standard pickup is at the host's location with a 30-60 minute walkthrough, and drop-off is typically tank-empty and roughly the same fuel level you received. Each listing spells out its mileage policy (daily included miles plus a per-mile overage rate). Pro tip: bundle delivery, a kitchen kit, and bedding if you're flying in, and you can show up at Indian Lake with just a duffel bag.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038070494-What-to-expect-during-your-RV-walkthroughHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is handled entirely through RVezy, never in cash directly to the host, so everything is tracked and protected. You'll pay for the booking through the RVezy platform, and a refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before the trip starts. The deposit amount is set per listing and clearly shown before checkout. As long as the RV comes back in the agreed condition with the agreed mileage and fuel, the hold is released after drop-off. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a quick walk-around video at pickup and drop-off, it's the single best habit for a smooth security deposit return on your Urbana RV rental.
