Campgrounds and RV parks near Walnut Creek, OH

The village itself packs dozens of shops, restaurants, and attractions into a compact area, so many trips are spent on foot or by short drive. The Farm at Walnut Creek runs a horse-drawn wagon ride and a drive-through animal park with over 500 domestic and exotic animals, including giraffes, camels, zebras, and bison, plus tours of non-electric Amish farmhouses. Within a half-hour drive, travelers reach cheese houses, furniture makers, bakeries, and Lehman's hardware store in Kidron. For outdoor time, Mohican State Park offers canoeing on the Clear Fork River, hiking trails, and a large multi-use trail system. Rail-trail cyclists use the Holmes County Trail, a paved path with a separate chip-and-seal lane for Amish buggies and horses.

The camping season in Amish Country runs roughly from April through late October, matching the humid continental climate. Late spring through early fall brings the most comfortable temperatures for exploring the countryside, and it is also when private RV parks are fully staffed and open. Summer is peak season. Weekends fill early at Timbercrest Camp and RV Park, Scenic Hills RV Park, and Berlin RV Park and Campground Ltd, and July delivers the warmest weather and the longest daylight of the year. Afternoon thunderstorms are common from spring into early summer, so travelers should plan for occasional rain days. Fall foliage in late September and October is a strong second peak, and Mohican State Park in particular books out months ahead for weekends. Winter camping is limited: many private parks reduce hours or close, and snowfall averages 25 to 35 inches per winter with rural roads that may be slow to receive treatment.

Most parks near Walnut Creek are private, family-run operations on rolling farmland. Expect level sites with water, electric, and sewer hookups at parks like Scenic Hills RV Park and Evergreen Park RV Resort Ltd, plus swimming pools, cabins, and planned family activities at the larger resorts. Cell coverage is generally good, but Wi-Fi speeds vary by park. Drivers should be alert for Amish buggies on county roads, especially near Berlin, Sugarcreek, and Charm. Shoulders are narrow, hills are steep in places, and buggy traffic increases on weekends. Many local businesses are closed on Sundays, so plan grocery and fuel stops for other days. The area is family-friendly and low-key. Quiet hours are enforced at most private parks, and pets are typically allowed on leash.
