The Great Miami River Recreation Trail runs directly through the West Carrollton area and connects to a broader regional network of paved trails, useful for e-bikes, strollers, and dog walks straight from camp. South toward Lebanon, RV travelers staying at Lebanon / Cincinnati NE KOA Holiday can reach Kings Island amusement park and the Little Miami Scenic Trail in about twenty minutes.

Peak camping season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when private parks like Green Valley RV Park, Dayton KOA Holiday, and Lebanon / Cincinnati NE KOA Holiday fill quickly on weekends and around holidays. Summer around Dayton is warm and humid, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and the area sits where tornadoes can form, which are more likely in spring, but sometimes can also occur in autumn. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for touring. May is usually the wettest month, while September tends to run drier with clearer skies and comfortable daytime temperatures. In October, travelers can admire the colors of the trees losing their leaves, the phenomenon called fall foliage, across southwest Ohio's deciduous forests and river valleys. Winter camping is limited. Some private parks remain open year-round for self-contained rigs, but most state park campgrounds reduce the number of sites and amenities available November through March, and full-hookup sites offer electric only during winter months. January is the coldest month, so travelers arriving during that window should confirm hookup availability in advance.

Sites in the West Carrollton area vary widely. Traditional RV parks like Green Valley RV Park and the two KOA properties offer level pads with hookups, laundry, and pet-friendly amenities. Farm and small-property stays such as Oak & Ember Farms and Rye Camp lean rustic, with limited or no hookups and a more secluded feel, so plan tank capacity and power needs accordingly. Cell coverage is generally strong across Montgomery and Warren counties given proximity to Dayton and Cincinnati. Grocery stores, propane refills, and RV service are easy to find near I-75 and I-675. Summer bugs, particularly mosquitoes near river bottoms and pond edges, are worth preparing for with screens and repellent.
