Camping near West Lafayette, Ohio
West Lafayette is a small village in Coshocton County in east-central Ohio, sitting in the Tuscarawas River valley and surrounded by forested hills and farmland. The village had a population of 2,417 at the 2020 census, and it functions as a quiet base for RV travelers exploring the wider Coshocton area, Ohio's Amish Country, and the Appalachian foothills just to the southeast.
RV travelers have a compact set of options within a short drive. Closest to the village is Coshocton KOA Holiday, a full-service park on County Road 10. It is open from April to December and offers pull-thru RV sites with 50-amp service and up to 100-foot lengths, deluxe cabins, and glamping tents. Southeast toward Kimbolton, Rocky Fork Ranch spreads across a much larger property with a resort-style setup on 850 wooded acres, featuring roughly 255 full or partial hookup campsites that are big-rig friendly for vehicles up to 40 feet.
For trips that combine West Lafayette with Holmes County Amish Country, Scenic Hills RV Park and Berlin RV Park and Campground Ltd sit about an hour north near Berlin, and Timbercrest Camp and RV Park rounds out the local choices.
Things to do near West Lafayette
The area's main draw is Historic Roscoe Village in nearby Coshocton, a restored 19th-century canal town with shops, gardens, restaurants, and living history exhibits. Visitors can ride the Monticello III canal boat along an original section of the Ohio and Erie Canal, pulled by draft horses, during the seasonal operating window from late spring through early fall.
Outdoor activity fills a weekend easily. Local options include golf at River Greens or Hickory Flats, disc golf and fishing at Lake Park in Coshocton, canoe and kayak trips on the Tuscarawas and Walhonding rivers, trails at Clary Gardens, and stops along the Three Rivers Wine Trail. Salt Fork State Park, the largest state park in Ohio at 17,229 acres, is a short drive east and adds a large lake with two marinas, a swimming beach, an 18-hole golf course, and an extensive trail system.

Camping season in the West Lafayette area runs roughly April through late October, with a shoulder that stretches into early December at a few private parks. Coshocton KOA Holiday is open from April to December, and Rocky Fork Ranch Resort near Kimbolton is open year-round, which makes it one of the few local options for late-season or off-peak trips. Most other private RV parks in the area operate on a spring-to-fall calendar.
Summer is the peak booking window. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day fill first, and holiday sites at popular parks routinely sell out weeks in advance. Fall is a strong second season for the region; the Coshocton County Fall Foliage and Farm Tour, corn mazes at the KOA, and Amish Country harvest events pull steady traffic through October.
Winter camping is limited. Salt Fork State Park's main campground stays open through winter with reduced services, but primitive sites there are only bookable April through October, and most private RV parks close their sites entirely. Plan cold-weather trips around the handful of year-round properties.

What to expect on the ground
Terrain around West Lafayette is rolling rather than flat. The village sits on a level plain in the Tuscarawas River valley and is surrounded by forested hills and agricultural valleys, and most nearby campgrounds occupy hillside or wooded parcels. Expect gravel or paved interior roads, a mix of back-in and pull-thru sites, and both 30- and 50-amp service at the larger parks.
Amenities vary by property. Rocky Fork Ranch adds a clubhouse, indoor pool, gym, hot tub, adult lounge, and game room across its 850 wooded acres, while Coshocton KOA Holiday offers a swimming pool, camp store, and a heated bathhouse that stays open into late fall for hunters. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the villages but can thin out on back roads, so download maps before heading to trailheads or wineries.
