Campgrounds and RV parks near Weston, OH

The Maumee River is the main outdoor draw. The river offers strong stream fishing, and boaters have access to the water while history buffs can explore the remnants of the old canal at Mary Jane Thurston State Park. Birdwatchers can look for Baltimore orioles, cedar waxwings, eagles, bluebirds, and pileated woodpeckers passing through the river corridor. Day trips from a Weston base camp include the Toledo Zoo, the Toledo Museum of Art, and the shops and restaurants of Grand Rapids village. Cyclists and hikers can pick up the Maumee towpath and North Country Trail segments that follow the old canal route. In cooler months, park guests can enjoy a sled hill under the proper winter conditions, and cross-country skiing is possible on the trails when snow cover allows.

Peak RV season in this part of Ohio runs from late May through early September, when daytime highs are warm, evenings are comfortable, and every campground in the area is open with full services. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day book out first, especially electric sites at Mary Jane Thurston State Park. Spring and fall are quieter but variable. April and May bring rain and rising river levels along the Maumee, which can affect low-lying riverside sites. September and October deliver crisp weather and fall color along the river corridor, and demand drops sharply after Labor Day. Winter camping is limited but possible. The campground at Mary Jane Thurston State Park operates year-round, though most private parks near Weston close for the season between mid-October and mid-April. Snow, ice, and freeze-thaw cycles can make hookups and dump stations unreliable in deep winter, so renters should confirm winter service status directly with each park before arriving.

Campgrounds in the Weston area range from basic state-park loops to full-service private parks. At Mary Jane Thurston State Park, the small campground offers both non-electric and electric sites, several with water hookup, plus a number of sites designated for tent camping, and pets are allowed at all sites. A potable fill station and dump station sit near the park office, and showers are available to registered campers at the nearby marina. Sites at the state park sit close together with limited privacy, and highway noise affects some sites, particularly those positioned away from the river corridor. Private parks in the area generally offer 30/50-amp service, laundry, and Wi-Fi, though signal strength varies. Cellular coverage across Wood County is generally reliable on major carriers.
