Campgrounds and RV parks near Yorkville, OH

Outdoor activity in the area centers on the Ohio River, the surrounding hills, and the state park system. At Main - Jefferson Lake State Park, visitors can fish the 17-acre lake for largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill, and redear sunfish, and hike or ride roughly 20 miles of multi-use trails through oak and hickory forest. Non-motorized boats and boats with electric motors up to four horsepower are allowed on the lake, and one launch ramp provides access. Grand Vue Park adds a resort-style mix of ziplines, an aerial adventure course, disc golf, mini golf, a large swimming pool, and long-range Ohio Valley views. Nearby Moundsville is home to the Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex and the former West Virginia Penitentiary. Wheeling, a short drive north, offers riverfront parks, historic architecture, and events on Wheeling Island.

The Yorkville area has a four-season humid climate typical of the upper Ohio Valley. Spring is cool and wet, with wildflowers such as wild geranium, hepatica, and bloodroot appearing on the forest floor at Jefferson Lake State Park. Trails can be muddy into April, and daytime temperatures climb steadily from March through May. Summer is the primary camping season. June is typically the wettest month, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, while July and August bring warm, humid days that are well suited to outdoor recreation and the pool at Grand Vue Park. Weekends fill fastest around holidays, so booking ahead is recommended. Fall brings cooler nights, drier air, and oak-hickory color that peaks in mid to late October. Winter is cold, with snow possible from December through March. Grand Vue Park stays open year-round but operates with only one bathhouse and a limited number of sites from December 1 through April 1, and Jefferson Lake State Park is quieter, with ice fishing and cross-country skiing possible under the right conditions.

Roads into the Yorkville area follow the Ohio River and cut through steep, wooded terrain. Ohio Route 7 runs along the river, and U.S. 250 and I-70 provide access from the east. Grades are manageable for most RVs, but drivers of larger rigs should plan routes in advance, as some county roads are narrow and winding. Hookup levels vary widely. Grand Vue Park offers full hookups with 30 and 50-amp service, water, sewer, and internet on gravel pads. Main - Jefferson Lake State Park has only five electric sites among 49 total, with latrines, water fountains, picnic tables, and a dump station rather than hookups at every site. Cell service is generally reliable near Wheeling and along the river corridor but can drop in the ridges around Jefferson Lake. Bring a full water tank and supplies when heading to more remote sites.
