Carnegie camping overview
Carnegie sits in Caddo County in southwest Oklahoma, on the Washita River about a half-hour drive from Fort Cobb Lake. The lake and its surrounding state park form the main draw for RV travelers in the area, with camping concentrated in a cluster of lakeside coves rather than in Carnegie itself.
Fort Cobb State Park borders a reservoir of roughly 4,100 surface acres and holds the bulk of developed RV camping within easy reach of Carnegie. The five RV loops here are Eagles Nest Cove - Fort Cobb State Park, Deer Run Cove - Fort Cobb State Park, Blackjack Cove - Fort Cobb State Park, Sunset Cove - Fort Cobb State Park, and Whites Catfish Cove - Fort Cobb State Park, each offering water and electric sites along or near the water.
The park is operated by Oklahoma State Parks, so day-use vehicle fees and standard state-park rules apply. Most sites suit rigs of varied lengths, with a limited number of full-hookup pads and a dump station near the park office.
Things to do around Carnegie
Fort Cobb Lake is the anchor activity. The reservoir supports crappie, catfish, walleye, saugeye, largemouth bass, and white bass, and shore fishing is possible from several bank areas near the campgrounds. Boaters can launch from multiple ramps around the lake, and Sunset Cove Marina rents boats and equipment, sells fuel, and includes a convenience store and restaurant.
On land, the park operates an 18-hole golf course with lake views, plus swimming areas, playgrounds, and short walking paths. Families basing out of Whites Catfish Cove - Fort Cobb State Park have quick access to laundry facilities and modern bathhouses.
Off-park options within an hour of Carnegie include Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park near Hinton for hiking, the Washita Battlefield National Historic Site, and the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge to the south for bison viewing and hiking.

Fort Cobb State Park operates year-round, but activity is heavily concentrated from late spring through early fall. Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends draw the largest crowds, and lakefront sites at Sunset Cove - Fort Cobb State Park, Eagles Nest Cove - Fort Cobb State Park, and Whites Catfish Cove - Fort Cobb State Park fill first. Booking several weeks ahead for summer weekends is advisable.
Spring brings the region's wettest weather and its most active severe-storm season. Western Oklahoma sits in the heart of Tornado Alley, and thunderstorms with hail and high winds are common from April into June. Rigs should be sited with awnings retracted during storm watches, and campers should note the nearest shelter.
Winters are mild by plains standards but variable, with occasional ice storms and hard freezes. Some hookups may be reduced in service during the coldest weeks, and the golf course and marina run limited hours. Fall, from mid-September into early November, tends to offer the most stable weather and the thinnest crowds.
How to book near Carnegie
Sites and cabins at Fort Cobb State Park are booked through the Oklahoma State Parks reservation system, which is the official channel for Eagles Nest Cove - Fort Cobb State Park, Deer Run Cove - Fort Cobb State Park, Blackjack Cove - Fort Cobb State Park, Sunset Cove - Fort Cobb State Park, and Whites Catfish Cove - Fort Cobb State Park. Reservations can be made up to eleven months ahead and must be booked at least one day before arrival. Primitive tent sites are also reservable online, and a limited number of first-come, first-served spots may remain, but relying on walk-up availability is risky on summer and holiday weekends.
One complimentary parking pass is included with each site or cabin reservation; additional vehicles must be registered separately. Pets are allowed at select sites.
What to expect on arrival in Carnegie
Most RV pads at Fort Cobb State Park are gravel and can soften after heavy rain, so leveling blocks and jack pads are useful. Sites carry water and electric hookups with a mix of 30-amp and 50-amp service. Full sewer connections are limited to about 34 sites concentrated in select loops, including a couple of pads in Deer Run Cove - Fort Cobb State Park and Eagles Nest Cove - Fort Cobb State Park, while a dump station near the park office serves the rest.
Bathhouses at loops such as Whites Catfish Cove - Fort Cobb State Park are modern, though showers are coin-operated. Cell coverage is generally usable but uneven between coves. The Fort Cobb Lake Store on the west side of the lake stocks bait, tackle, and basic essentials during the main season.
