Camping near Stigler, Oklahoma
Stigler sits in Haskell County in southeastern Oklahoma, positioned between two major reservoirs: Lake Eufaula to the west and Robert S. Kerr Lake to the east. Eufaula Lake is the largest lake located entirely in the state of Oklahoma, with over 600 miles of shoreline and 102,000 surface acres of water, giving RV travelers a wide choice of waterfront campgrounds within a short drive of town.
Most camping options in this area fall into three categories. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Eufaula and Robert S. Kerr Lakes handle the bulk of reservable public sites. Oklahoma state parks, including Lake Eufaula State Park and Robbers Cave State Park in the nearby Sans Bois Mountains, add full-hookup RV loops, cabins, and primitive areas. Private resorts round out the mix.
Named nearby options include Evergreen Marina at Lake Eufaula, the family-oriented Marval Resort and Marval Family Camping Resort on the Lower Illinois River near Gore, Lakeside RV Campground toward Sallisaw, and Fox/Squirrel RV Park. Together they cover full-hookup family resorts, marina-adjacent stays, and simpler lake access sites.
Things to do around Stigler
Water recreation drives most trips here. Crappie, sand bass, catfish, and black bass in Eufaula Lake reach record size, and below the dam, striped bass reaching over 40 pounds have been caught in the tailwaters. Boat ramps, sandy beaches, and marina access are widely available around the lake, and Evergreen Marina rents large and small cabins that sleep up to 10 people, along with houseboats that sleep up to eight guests.
On land, Robbers Cave State Park offers hiking through the Sans Bois Mountains with trails tied to the region's outlaw history. Lake Eufaula State Park adds mountain bike trails, a swimming beach, and nature programming for families.
In town, families can visit the Haskell County Historical Society Museum, the Taloka Valley Cultural Heritage Center, which entertains guests while educating them about the history and culture of the area, and the Choctaw Casino Stigler. The scenery is especially beautiful during the fall months, when visitors are treated to an array of vivid autumn colors.

The core camping season runs April through October, and many Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Lake Eufaula follow that schedule. Brooken Cove, for example, operates from April 1 to October 31. Gate attendants are typically on site through the spring and summer at Corps parks such as Belle Starr, Brooken Cove, Gentry Creek, Highway 9 Landing, and Porum Landing.
Summer is peak season and also the hottest stretch. July is the warmest month, with average highs of about 92.5°F and lows near 72°F, and shaded sites go quickly. Reservable Class A sites should be booked well in advance for holiday weekends.
Spring is the wettest period, with thunderstorms common across eastern Oklahoma and May typically the wettest month. Fall offers cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and strong foliage color along the shoreline. Winters are short and cool with occasional snow; private resorts like Marval Resort keep sites available for anglers targeting the trout-stocked Lower Illinois River.
How to book campgrounds near Stigler
Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Eufaula Lake and Robert S. Kerr Lake are reserved through Recreation.gov. Reservable Class A areas around Eufaula include Belle Starr, Brooken Cove, Highway 9 Landing, Gentry Creek, Porum Landing, and Ladybird Landing, along with the Kerr Lake parks. Class C parks such as Elm Point, Mill Creek, Oak Ridge, and Dam Site E remain first come, first served, with self-pay on site.
Oklahoma state park sites, including Lake Eufaula State Park, are reserved through the Oklahoma State Parks ReserveAmerica portal. Reservations must be made one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance, and there are no first-come, first-served campsites in the Oklahoma state park system.
Private resorts including Marval Resort, Marval Family Camping Resort, Evergreen Marina, Lakeside RV Campground, and Fox/Squirrel RV Park take reservations directly through their own websites or third-party booking platforms.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Stigler transitions from the Sans Bois Mountain foothills into Lake Eufaula's clay-rich red shoreline. The shoreline ranges from vast expanses of sandy beaches to rocky bluffs. Corps campgrounds tend to offer standard electric and water hookups, boat ramps, playgrounds, and picnic shelters, but sewer hookups at individual sites are limited, so plan on using dump stations.
Private resorts fill the full-hookup gap. Evergreen Marina offers RV sites with full hookups including water, 30- or 50-amp electric and sewer service, plus covered boat slip rentals, a mechanic shop, and a fuel dock.
Expect humid summer nights, mosquitoes near the water, and occasional highway noise at sites near main roads. Cell coverage is generally usable in developed campgrounds but can drop off on remote coves and shoreline loops.

Plans change, and RVezy has you covered. Outside the grace period, refund amounts depend on how far out your trip start date is. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds guests or provides travel credits, which is reassuring when planning around eastern Oklahoma's spring storm season. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Lake Eufaula and Robert S. Kerr Reservoir rigs, then review the current cancellation details before you confirm.

Kerr Reservoir and Lake Eufaula are pet-friendly too. Lake Eufaula's shoreline has miles of open beach perfect for a swim. Pro tip: message the host before booking if you have a larger breed, and ask about any pet cleaning fee. Then load up the bowls, leash, and travel water jug.
travelok.com/state-parks/robbers-cave-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Stigler?
Yes, RV delivery in Stigler is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're a first-time renter. Many local hosts will drive the RV straight to your campsite at Lake Eufaula, Brooken Cove, Applegate Cove, or Robert S. Kerr Reservoir, level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service and check their delivery radius and fee. Pro tip: delivery is gold for big rigs heading to tight Corps of Engineers sites, where you can skip the stress of backing in on red-clay shorelines.

You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Stigler sit on stunning eastern Oklahoma lakes. Top picks: Brooken Cove Campground on Lake Eufaula (full hookups, lakefront sites managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers), Applegate Cove and Cowlington Point on Robert S. Kerr Reservoir (electric and water hookups), Lake Eufaula State Park near Checotah (modern RV sites and a swim beach), and Robbers Cave State Park about 35 miles south (full-hookup and water-and-electric sites available). Pro tip: reserve through Recreation.gov for Corps sites and the Oklahoma State Parks reservation system for state parks. Both open bookings months in advance, so plan early.
recreation.gov/camping/campground/234436When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Stigler?
Spring and fall are the sweet spots in eastern Oklahoma. Mid-April through early June brings highs in the 70s to mid-80s, blooming dogwoods, and full lake levels, while late September through early November delivers crisp 60-to-75-degree days and brilliant fall color in the Sans Bois Mountains around Robbers Cave State Park. Summer (June to August) is hot and humid with highs near 92 to 95 degrees, so plan for shaded sites and air-conditioned drive time. Winters are short and mild with daytime highs around 50, meaning RV camping in Stigler is possible year-round. Pro tip: target mid-October for peak foliage along Highway 2.
weather.gov/oun/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Stigler?
You've got this, and you're not alone. First time renting an RV in Stigler is easier than most people expect because the roads here are wide, traffic is light, and the lake-country highways (US-59, US-271, OK-2) are RV-friendly. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, slide-outs, propane, and the dump-and-fill routine. Start with a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer for an easier learning curve. Pro tip: pick a quiet base like Applegate Cove on Robert S. Kerr Reservoir for night one, then build confidence before tackling the twisty Talimena Scenic Byway later in your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106634-First-time-renting-an-RV-What-to-expectWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV on the road?
Take a breath, help is built in. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on US-59, a dead battery at Brooken Cove, or a lockout at Lake Eufaula State Park is one phone call away from a fix. You also have direct messaging with your host, who knows the rig best, plus access to RVezy's customer support team before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before pulling away from pickup, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate so you're ready in seconds if you need to call.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat are the best RV road trips from Stigler?
You're sitting on a goldmine of routes. Popular RV road trips from Stigler include: the Talimena Scenic Byway loop south through Talihina and on into Mena, Arkansas (about 110 miles of mountain views in the Ouachita National Forest), a Lake Eufaula loop hitting Arrowhead, Lake Eufaula, and Greenleaf State Parks (around 150 miles), a Tahlequah and Illinois River weekend 70 miles north, a Hot Springs, Arkansas getaway about 200 miles east, and a Tulsa to Route 66 run roughly 90 miles northwest. Cross-border travel into Arkansas is generally fine on RVezy bookings, but Mexico is not allowed. Pro tip: confirm cross-state plans with your host before booking so insurance stays valid.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/ouachita/recarea/?recid=10848How much will fuel cost on my Stigler RV trip?
Fuel in eastern Oklahoma is consistently among the cheapest in the country, which is great news for your budget. Expect Class C motorhomes to get roughly 8 to 12 miles per gallon (mpg), Class A around 6 to 10 mpg, campervans 15 to 20 mpg, and tow setups 10 to 14 mpg. Oklahoma gas prices typically run below the national average, with stations in Stigler, Sallisaw, and Poteau being the most affordable along your route. Pro tip: fuel up before heading into the Sans Bois Mountains, since prices climb at the small stops along OK-2, and use a fuel-price app to stay on the cheap side of every fill-up.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Stigler?
Plan ahead and you'll lock in the best sites. For Robbers Cave State Park, Lake Eufaula State Park, and other Oklahoma state parks, reservations open up to roughly 12 months in advance through the Oklahoma State Parks reservation system. For U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites at Robert S. Kerr Reservoir and Lake Eufaula (Brooken Cove, Applegate Cove, Cowlington Point), book on Recreation.gov up to 6 months out. Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day weekends sell out fast. Pro tip: weekday arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are usually wide open, even in peak summer, so shift your schedule and skip the scramble.
recreation.gov/camping/campground/234436What are the driving conditions like around Stigler?
Driving an RV around Stigler is refreshingly low-stress. US-59, US-271, and the Indian Nation Turnpike are wide, well-maintained, and easy on big rigs. Local insider tip: eastern Oklahoma sees the most severe storm activity from April through June, so download the National Weather Service Tulsa office radar and pull off at a sturdy rest area if skies turn threatening. The Talimena Scenic Byway south of Stigler is gorgeous but climbs to about 2,600 feet with tight curves, better suited to a campervan rental than a 35-foot Class A. Watch for white-tailed deer at dawn and dusk on rural roads, and you'll be golden.
weather.gov/tsa/What amenities do campgrounds near Stigler have for RVs?
You'll be well-supplied. Most U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds at Lake Eufaula and Robert S. Kerr Reservoir offer 30- and 50-amp electric, water hookups, hot showers, flush toilets, and on-site dump stations. Robbers Cave State Park has full-hookup and water-and-electric sites, with dump stations near Belle Starr and Lake Wayne Wallace campgrounds. Potable water fills are easy to find at state park entrances. Pro tip: many Corps sites are electric-and-water only (no sewer at the site), so dump on your way out, top up the freshwater tank at the same time, and you're set for the next stop on your Oklahoma RV camping route.
recreation.gov/camping/campground/234436What's actually inside a typical RV rental in Stigler?
More than you'd expect. A typical motorhome rental in Stigler comes ready to live in: a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, microwave, stovetop, and often an oven; a bathroom with toilet, sink, and shower; sleeping for 4 to 8 people depending on layout; air conditioning and furnace; a dinette; and DOT-approved seatbelts for travel. Most include a TV, and many hosts offer generators for off-grid stays at primitive Lake Eufaula shoreline sites. Wi-Fi is usually BYO via a hotspot since rural Haskell County cell coverage can be spotty. Pro tip: filter listings by sleeps count and check the photo gallery so you know exactly what you're getting before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stigler%2C%20OklahomaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I rent an RV in Stigler?
Hosts make customizing your trip easy. Popular add-ons for a Stigler RV trip include linen and kitchen kits (often $25 to $75), camp chairs and outdoor mats, generators, bike racks, fishing gear for Lake Eufaula's famous bass, propane refills, and pet cleaning packages. Pickup is usually at the host's address in or near Stigler, with delivery available to Brooken Cove, Applegate Cove, Lake Eufaula State Park, or Robbers Cave State Park for a flat fee plus mileage. Mileage policies and pet rules are set by each host. Pro tip: choose Instant Book listings to confirm in seconds, and message hosts ahead to lock in the add-ons you want.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Stigler%2C%20OklahomaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, so your transaction is protected from start to finish. A refundable security deposit is held (not charged) on your card before pickup; the exact amount is shown on the listing and depends on the RV's value. As long as the rig comes back in the same shape it left, with a clean interior and no policy violations, the hold is released after the trip. Pro tip: do a thorough walkaround video at pickup and return, that 90-second habit is the single best way to ensure a smooth deposit release.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs a cheap RV rental in Stigler good for a family trip?
Definitely, and Stigler is built for family RV trips. A cheap RV rental in Stigler often means a well-loved travel trailer from a local host for under $120 per night, plenty of room for kids, gear, and a dog, plus access to swim beaches at Lake Eufaula (Oklahoma's largest lake), the swimming pool and mini-golf at Robbers Cave State Park, and easy fishing at Applegate Cove on Robert S. Kerr Reservoir. Filter by sleeps count, Pet-Friendly, and price to find your match. Local insider tip: time your visit for the Robbers Cave Fall Festival in October for live music, food, and that legendary Sans Bois Mountains color show.
