Campgrounds and RV parks near Aumsville, OR

The headline attraction is Silver Falls State Park and its Trail of Ten Falls, a spectacular hiking trail that weaves through a dense forested landscape, passing a series of waterfalls along a rocky canyon, considered a moderate hike with an overall elevation change of 800 feet. Shorter spur routes from the South Falls day-use area let families see the largest falls without committing to the full loop, and more than 35 miles of multi-use backcountry trails spread over the 9,000 acres are open to hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. Closer to town, the Oregon Garden in Silverton and the historic downtowns of Silverton, Mount Angel, and Salem offer easy half-day outings. Riverfront parks along the Willamette in Salem, plus u-pick farms and wineries scattered through the valley, round out rainy-day and shoulder-season options.

Summer is the prime RV season. June through early September brings warm, dry days, low rainfall, and the best trail conditions. It is also the busiest stretch: as the busiest state park in Oregon with over a million annual visitors, campsites fill up quickly on summer weekends, so reservations well in advance are expected. Spring and fall are quieter but wetter. Waterfalls run highest from late winter into spring, when the valley still sees frequent showers. Valley RV parks stay open year-round and are useful shoulder-season bases for travelers who want to combine hiking with town visits. Winter conditions vary widely. The Willamette Valley sees heavy rain and fog, while the Silver Falls area sits at higher elevation. Winter months often bring either large amounts of rain or sub-freezing temperatures that can result in ice or snow, and due to the park's elevation, extensive tree cover, and ambient moisture, icy conditions are common on the park trails and roads. Plan extra travel time and check conditions before heading up from the valley floor.

At Silver Falls State Park, expect a forested campground with paved pads, picnic tables, fire rings, flush toilets, hot showers, and an RV dump station. There are 48 electrical sites with water, 43 tent sites with water nearby, and 14 cabins, with accessible campsites, cabins, and restrooms available. Sites sit fairly close together, tree cover is dense, and cell service is unreliable throughout the park. The Salem-area private parks, including Phoenix RV Park, Silver Spur RV Park, Hee Hee Illahee RV Resort, and Premier RV Resort - Salem, offer a more standard full-hookup experience with level pads, Wi-Fi, and laundry. Pet rules vary by property, and pets are not allowed on the Canyon Trail or on the connecting Winter Trail, Maple Ridge Trail, and Twin Falls Trail at Silver Falls, so confirm pet policies and trail restrictions before booking.
