Bethany camping overview
Bethany sits in unincorporated Washington County on the west side of the Portland metro area, roughly twenty minutes from downtown Portland and a short drive from Hillsboro and Beaverton. The community is residential, so RV travelers typically base out of full-hookup parks along the Columbia River or south near Tualatin, then use Bethany as a launch point for Forest Park, the Tualatin Hills, and the Tualatin Valley wine country.
The closest established RV parks include Jantzen Beach RV Park on Hayden Island, Reeder Beach RV Park and Country Store on Sauvie Island, Roamers Rest RV Park LLC in Tualatin, and Columbia River RV Park north of downtown. Most sit within a thirty to forty minute drive of Bethany, with paved access and full hookups suitable for larger rigs.
This cluster covers a range of styles, from urban-edge resorts with pools and clubhouses to rural riverside parks with sandy beaches and farm stands nearby. Reservations at these private parks are handled directly by each operator, separate from the Oregon State Parks system used at nearby public campgrounds.
Things to do near Bethany
Bethany puts RV travelers within easy reach of Forest Park, one of the largest urban forests in the country, with hiking and mountain-bike trails accessible from the Wildwood and Leif Erikson networks. The Tualatin Hills Nature Park and the Rock Creek Trail offer flatter, family-friendly walks closer to town.
Sauvie Island, reached via the Sauvie Island Bridge, is a popular day trip with U-pick farms, wildlife viewing, sandy Columbia River beaches, and quiet roads good for cycling. Reeder Beach RV Park and Country Store sits directly on the island for travelers who want to base there.
Downtown Portland is roughly fifteen miles east and reachable by car or via MAX Light Rail from park-and-ride lots. The Columbia River Gorge and Mount Hood are both within a ninety-minute drive for day trips to waterfalls, hiking, or scenic byways.

The Portland metro area, including Bethany, has a Mediterranean climate (Köppen Csb) with cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers. The bulk of annual rainfall falls between November and March, while July and August are the driest months of the year.
Peak RV season runs from late June through mid-September, when daytime highs commonly reach the low 80s and rain is uncommon. This window also brings the highest demand at private parks and at nearby Oregon State Park campgrounds, where new reservations are accepted from one day to six months in advance. Booking at the six-month mark is recommended for summer weekends.
Shoulder seasons in April through May and again in late September through October bring cooler temperatures, wildflowers or fall color, and easier site availability. Winter stays are possible at year-round parks such as Jantzen Beach RV Park and Reeder Beach RV Park and Country Store, but expect persistent rain, occasional freezes, and shorter daylight hours.

Took the trailer out for a long holiday weekend. Torrey and Nick were super nice and helpful. We called with a few questions and they were helpful and got us up and running. Highly recommend!

Great set up. We ended up not using some of the add ons as we got cleared out early due to smoke/fires and were reimbursed appropriately. Very professional communications. Nice for a small family of 4 for the weekend or more. 8 YO boy enjoyed it too: “dad do you think you could quit work and we could just drive around in this van for the rest of the year?”

Thanks Radek and Anna for the amazing experience!

How to book a campsite near Bethany
Private RV parks near Bethany take reservations directly through their own websites or through third-party booking platforms. Jantzen Beach RV Park, Reeder Beach RV Park and Country Store, Roamers Rest RV Park LLC, and Columbia River RV Park each operate independently, so confirm site length, hookup amperage, and big-rig access before booking.
For nearby Oregon State Park campgrounds, reservations are handled through the state system. Oregon Parks and Recreation Department accepts new reservations from one day to six months out through its online reservation system, covering tent and RV sites as well as deluxe cabins and yurts. New sites come online at 6 a.m. Pacific time daily. Summer weekends at popular coastal and Gorge parks can fill within minutes of opening, so set a reminder for the six-month mark.
What to expect at Bethany-area parks
Most RV parks in this corridor are full-hookup with paved or gravel pads. Jantzen Beach RV Park on Hayden Island offers a heated pool, clubhouse, fitness center, and pull-through sites with 30 and 50 amp service, plus walking paths along the Columbia. Ambient noise from I-5, rail, and river traffic is common.
Reeder Beach RV Park and Country Store is more rural, with gravel sites and direct river-beach access. Roamers Rest RV Park LLC sits along the Tualatin River with a quieter suburban feel, and Columbia River RV Park provides a closer-in option for visiting Portland.
Cell coverage is generally good across the metro area. Wildfire smoke can affect air quality during late summer, and traffic on I-5 and Highway 26 backs up during commute hours, so plan arrivals outside peak times.
