Camping near Clatskanie, Oregon
Clatskanie sits along US Highway 30 in Columbia County, roughly 60 miles northwest of Portland and 30 miles east of Astoria. The town is a practical staging point for RV travelers exploring the Lower Columbia River corridor, the Oregon Coast, and the forests of the northern Coast Range.
Campgrounds in the area range from full-hookup riverfront parks to forested state campgrounds with basic amenities. Clatskanie River Inn and RV Park offers big-rig friendly pull-throughs with 30 and 50 amp service near the Columbia River Highway. A short drive away, RV Outdoor adventures and Cabins provides RV sites along with cabin and tent options.
For more rustic stays, Clatsop State Forest - Northrup Creek Horse Camp provides equestrian and non-equestrian sites in the forest. Across the Columbia in Washington, Skamokawa Vista Park offers riverfront camping on the Lower Columbia, and Brookhollow RV Park rounds out the local options for longer-stay travelers.
Things to do near Clatskanie
The Lower Columbia River is the main draw. Boat launches in the area provide access for fishing, kayaking, and watching cargo ships transit the shipping channel between the Pacific and inland ports. The Julia Butler Hansen National Wildlife Refuge, just across the river, protects habitat for the Columbian white-tailed deer and is reachable by road from Clatskanie.
Clatsop State Forest offers hiking and equestrian trails, including the Big Tree Trail accessible from Northrup Creek. Beaver Falls Trailhead, a short drive from town, leads to a waterfall and is a popular family hike.
Day trips reach Astoria for the Columbia River Maritime Museum and the Astoria Column, and the Oregon Coast at Cannon Beach and Fort Stevens State Park is within an hour's drive.

Summer, from late June through early September, is the dry season and the peak booking window. Daytime highs are comfortable, rainfall is minimal, and riverfront sites at Skamokawa Vista Park and other waterfront parks fill weekends well in advance. Reservations at Skamokawa Vista Park are handled online through the Port of Wahkiakum District 2, and summer weekends routinely sell out.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons. Rainfall is significant, especially in March and November, and temperatures stay cool. Forest trails can be muddy, but campgrounds are far less crowded and last-minute sites are usually available. Wildlife viewing in the area refuges is strongest in fall and winter.
Winter is the wettest stretch, with December averaging the heaviest rainfall of the year at roughly 267 millimeters. Many private RV parks along Highway 30 stay open year-round, but expect saturated ground, occasional wind off the river, and short daylight hours. Snow is uncommon at this elevation but possible from January through March.
How to book campgrounds near Clatskanie
Private parks in the immediate Clatskanie area handle reservations directly. Clatskanie River Inn and RV Park books through its own front desk and website. RV Outdoor adventures and Cabins takes RV-site reservations by phone, and routes cabin bookings through its own channels. Brookhollow RV Park accepts reservations directly with the park.
Clatsop State Forest - Northrup Creek Horse Camp is operated by the Oregon Department of Forestry and books through ReserveAmerica. Reservations are required for every site and walk-ins are not permitted. Sites 9 through 11 are open to non-horse RV and tent campers.
Skamokawa Vista Park, across the river in Wahkiakum County, Washington, uses an online reservation system run by the port district. Yurts must be booked by phone with the park office.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near the Columbia River can be windy, especially in the afternoon. Waterfront spots at Skamokawa Vista Park are exposed, while interior sites tucked into the trees sit more sheltered. Bring extra tie-downs for awnings and outdoor gear.
Cell service is generally reliable along Highway 30 and at private parks in town. Coverage drops off in Clatsop State Forest and on forest roads leading to Northrup Creek. The drive in on Northrup Creek Road is paved but narrow.
Larger rigs should confirm site length before booking forest campgrounds, as parking pads at Northrup Creek are small and not suited to long Class A motorhomes. Riverfront private parks accommodate big rigs with 30 and 50 amp service, full hookups, and laundry. Fire restrictions are common in late summer; check current conditions with the Oregon Department of Forestry before arrival.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Clatskanie, OR
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Clatskanie, OR?
RV rental in Clatskanie is affordable, especially compared to renting from a Portland commercial chain. On RVezy, you'll typically see travel trailers starting around $90 to $140 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs from $250 and up. Because hosts set their own pricing, midweek dates and shoulder-season trips in April, May, and late September often unlock the cheapest RV rental Clatskanie has on offer. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book and look for hosts along Highway 30 between Clatskanie and Rainier, since their delivery fees to local campgrounds are usually lower. Bundle a 5 to 7 night booking and many hosts offer a weekly discount.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Clatskanie%2C%20OregonDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Clatskanie, OR?
Good news: a regular Oregon driver's license (or your home state or country's equivalent) is all you need to rent an RV in Clatskanie. Oregon does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes, travel trailers, or fifth wheels you'll find on RVezy. You'll just need to be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the platform when you book. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto association before you fly in and you're set. Most first-time renters are amazed how straightforward it is, your host will hand over the keys after a full walkthrough at pickup.
oregon.gov/odot/dmv/pages/driverid/licensetypes.aspxWhat protection is included when I book an RV in Clatskanie?
Every RVezy booking in Clatskanie includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 30 with peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damages to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), letting you balance price and protection for your Columbia River getaway. While it isn't traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial protection if something unexpected happens. Pro tip: review the coverage options carefully before booking, the upgraded tier costs a little more but tends to pay for itself in confidence, especially if it's your first time renting an RV.

Booking an RV in Clatskanie is low-risk. RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you have time to confirm dates and details with your travel crew. Refund amounts after that window depend on how far out you cancel relative to your trip start date. You'll see the full policy details and any applicable refund timelines during checkout. Pro tip: lock in your dates early to secure the best Clatskanie RV rental options, and message the host with any questions through the listing page before booking.

stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=parkPage.dsp_parkPage&parkId=129Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Clatskanie?
Yes, RV delivery in Clatskanie is one of the easiest ways to start your trip stress-free. Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or trailer directly to your campsite at parks like Hudson-Parcher Park near Rainier or Big Eddy Park, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means no towing, no backing into tight spots, and no figuring out the awning on your own. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service and their delivery range (most cover a 30 to 50 mile radius from Clatskanie). Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer for first-timers planning a family RV trip Clatskanie style, you essentially get a fully set-up cabin on wheels.
columbiacountyor.gov/departments/parksHow far can I travel from Clatskanie on an RV road trip?
You can road-trip almost anywhere from Clatskanie, and the location is ideal. An RV road trip from Clatskanie puts you about 1 hour from Astoria and the Pacific, 75 minutes from downtown Portland, about 2.5 hours from Mount Hood, 3 hours to Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument in Washington, and roughly 1.5 hours to Cannon Beach plus the entire Oregon Coast loop. Many hosts offer unlimited mileage packages, while others include 100 to 150 free miles per night with a small per-mile fee after that. Pro tip: check the listing's mileage policy before booking, if you're planning a coast-and-Crater-Lake loop, RV rental with unlimited mileage will save you money. Travel into Mexico isn't permitted, but cross-border trips into Washington are common and welcomed.
tripcheck.com/Where are the best campgrounds near Clatskanie, OR?
You have plenty of choice when it comes to RV camping Clatskanie travelers love. Hudson-Parcher Park near Rainier (about 20 minutes east) is a Columbia County favorite with electric and water hookups, showers, and restrooms. Big Eddy Park and Camp Wilkerson, also run by Columbia County, offer more forested, rustic options along the Nehalem River. Within an easy drive, Fort Stevens State Park near Astoria offers full-hookup sites and beach access, while Jones Beach and Bradley State Scenic Viewpoint provide great riverfront stops nearby. Pro tip: book county parks 3 to 4 weeks ahead for summer weekends, and reserve Fort Stevens up to 6 months in advance through the Oregon State Parks reservation system.
columbiacountyor.gov/departments/parksWhen is the best time to plan a Clatskanie RV trip?
Late June through mid-September is the sweet spot for a Clatskanie RV trip, with daytime highs in the 70s to low 80s F and minimal rain, which is a big deal in this corner of Oregon. May and October are great shoulder months with fewer crowds, lower nightly rates, and temps in the 60s, just pack a rain jacket. Winters are mild but wet, with highs in the mid-40s and frequent showers, so motorhome rental Clatskanie bookings in December through February are best for travelers who want cozy heated trips with riverside solitude. Pro tip: the Clatskanie Heritage Days festival in early August is a fun time to be in town, book your RV at least two months ahead for that weekend.
weather.gov/pqr/I have never driven an RV before, will I be okay in Clatskanie?
You'll be just fine, Clatskanie is one of the friendlier places in Oregon to learn. Roads here are wide, traffic is light, and Highway 30 between Portland and Astoria is mostly flat and straightforward compared to mountain passes. Your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, water systems, and dump procedures, and you can text or call them any time during your trip. If you're nervous, choose a host who offers delivery and the RV will be set up at your campground before you arrive. Pro tip: first time renting an RV? Start with a 2-night stay at a campground right near town, you'll get comfortable with the systems before venturing to the coast or Mount Hood.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I break down or have trouble on the road?
You're never on your own, every RVezy booking in Clatskanie includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan. One phone call connects you to dispatchers who can send a tow, tire change, jump start, or mobile mechanic anywhere along Highway 30, US-26, or I-5. Your host is also a quick text away for questions about quirks specific to their rig, like a generator that needs a particular start sequence. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN plate and your generator and appliance model numbers at pickup. If something does come up between Clatskanie and the coast, those details speed up the call, and you'll be back on the road faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat fuel costs and MPG should I budget for an RV rental in Clatskanie?
Fuel is one of the biggest line items, so let's make it predictable. Expect 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A motorhome, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 16 to 22 MPG for a Class B campervan rental Clatskanie hosts offer, and your tow vehicle's normal MPG (minus 25 to 35%) when pulling a travel trailer. Oregon gas prices typically run a bit higher than the national average, with stations in Clatskanie and along Highway 30 often charging less than downtown Portland. Note that Oregon ended its mandatory full-service rule in 2023, so both self-serve and attendant-served pumps are now common. Pro tip: fill up in Rainier or St. Helens on your way back to Portland, prices there are usually 10 to 20 cents per gallon cheaper than the metro.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Clatskanie?
Book sooner than you think, summer weekends fill up fast. For Oregon State Parks (like Fort Stevens, Nehalem Bay, and Cape Lookout, all within 90 minutes of Clatskanie), reservations open 6 months in advance through the Oregon State Parks reservation system and the most popular sites can go quickly. Columbia County parks like Hudson-Parcher and Big Eddy take reservations through the county website and are usually bookable 3 to 4 weeks out. Pro tip: if summer Oregon Coast sites are sold out, base in Clatskanie at a private RV park and do day-trips to the beach, you'll save money and still get the salt air every day.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=v.page&id=80What are driving conditions like around Clatskanie?
Driving an RV around Clatskanie is mostly relaxed and scenic. Highway 30 (the Lower Columbia River Highway) is the main artery, two lanes, gentle curves, and stunning river views all the way to Astoria. Watch for log trucks during weekday mornings, occasional fog along the river in fall and winter, and steady rain October through April that can make pavement slick. There are no major mountain passes between Clatskanie and Portland or the coast, so even larger Class A rigs handle the route easily. Pro tip: check TripCheck.com (Oregon DOT's real-time road conditions site) before heading toward Mount Hood or over US-26, winter chain requirements can come up fast in the Coast Range and Cascades.
tripcheck.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Clatskanie?
Most developed campgrounds near Clatskanie offer the full setup you'd want for a comfortable trip. Hudson-Parcher Park near Rainier offers electric, water, hot showers, and flush restrooms. Camp Wilkerson and Big Eddy Park, also operated by Columbia County, provide more rustic, forested sites. For full hookups including sewer, head to Fort Stevens State Park near Astoria within about 90 minutes. Public dump stations are available along Highway 30 in nearby St. Helens and Rainier. Pro tip: not every site is full-hookup, so where to park an RV in Clatskanie matters, confirm sewer at booking if you don't want to hunt for a dump station mid-trip.
columbiacountyor.gov/departments/parksWhat features and amenities are inside a typical Clatskanie RV rental?
Even the most modest motorhome rental Clatskanie hosts list comes well-equipped: a real bed (often a queen), kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bath with toilet and shower, plus dinette seating with seatbelts for travel. Larger Class C and Class A rigs typically add a TV, sometimes a backup camera, awning, outdoor speakers, and a generator for off-grid stops. Some hosts include Starlink or a hotspot for remote-work travelers heading to the coast. Class B campervans offer the basics in a smaller, more drivable package. Pro tip: review the listing's amenities tab carefully and message the host with specific questions, things like coffee maker style, bedding included, and kitchen kit vary, and most hosts are happy to throw in extras.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Clatskanie%2C%20OregonWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Clatskanie offer practical add-ons that make your trip easier: linens and towels packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits with pots and utensils ($25 to $50), generator use (typically a few dollars per hour beyond a free allowance), portable BBQs, bike racks, camping chairs, and propane top-offs. Mileage policies vary, some hosts include 100 to 150 miles per night free with a per-mile fee after, while others offer truly unlimited mileage for fixed-base trips. Pickup is usually at the host's home or storage lot just outside town, and delivery to local campgrounds is widely available. Pro tip: add the generator package if you're heading to Camp Wilkerson or any non-electric site, you'll want AC and microwave power without rationing battery juice.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Clatskanie%2C%20OregonHow do payment and the security deposit work on an RVezy rental in Clatskanie?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking using a credit or debit card, never directly to the host in cash. A refundable security deposit is held separately (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) and released after the host confirms the RV came back in the same condition it went out. You'll see the deposit amount upfront on the listing before you commit. Pro tip: at pickup, walk around the RV with your host and take time-stamped photos and a quick video of the exterior, interior, and existing scuffs, then do the same at drop-off. This 10-minute habit is the single best way to avoid any security deposit hiccups and keep your Clatskanie RV trip drama-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take my Clatskanie RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, crossing into Washington from Clatskanie is one of the most popular things renters do, the Lewis and Clark Bridge over to Longview is just 15 minutes east, opening up Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainier, and the entire Washington coast. Travel to Canada may also be permitted depending on the host and the protection plan, so always confirm with your host through the listing before booking if a cross-border trip is on the agenda. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: bring your passport (or enhanced driver's license) if Canada is on the itinerary, and ask the host for a written travel authorization letter, border agents occasionally request one for rented vehicles.
