Campgrounds near Columbia City, Oregon
Columbia City sits on the Oregon side of the lower Columbia River with a marine west coast climate (Köppen Csb), in Columbia County between St. Helens and the Lewis River confluence on the Washington side. RV travelers use it as a quiet base roughly 30 miles north of Portland, with quick access to Highway 30 in Oregon and the I-5 corridor in Washington via the Lewis and Clark Bridge.
The closest options are a mix of private full-hookup parks and one boat-access tent campground. Columbia Riverfront RV Park sits along the Columbia River in Woodland, Washington, about 22 miles north of Portland, a short drive across the bridge. Bayport RV Park and Campground, Woodland Shores RV Park, and Pekin Ferry RV Park & Campground cluster on the Washington side near Woodland and Ridgefield. Sand Island Campground occupies a 31.7-acre island operated by the City of St. Helens and open from March through October, reached by a free boat shuttle from the St. Helens Marina.
The area pairs working-river views with small-town amenities. Expect riverfront sites, large ships passing on the channel, salmon and steelhead fishing along the dikes, and easy day trips to Portland, Vancouver, Mount St. Helens, and the northern Oregon Coast.
Things to do near Columbia City
The river is the main draw. Anglers fish for salmon, steelhead, and sturgeon from boats and from shore along the Columbia City and Woodland dikes. Paddlers launch into Multnomah Channel and the side sloughs of the lower Columbia and Lewis rivers, and huge commercial ships passing on the river keep ship-watchers and kids engaged from riverfront sites.
St. Helens, immediately south, hosts the well-known Spirit of Halloweentown festival each October and a working riverfront district with shops, the historic Columbia Theater, and waterfront dining. Sand Island adds a 12-basket disc golf course, sandy beaches, and nature trails accessible by shuttle.
Day trips reach Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens in Woodland, downtown Portland, and the Oregon Coast at Astoria or Cannon Beach.

June - August
75° / 54°F 25 mmWarm and dry; peak bookings, reserve early

- winter
December - February
46° / 34°F 165 mmWettest season; persistent rain and river fog
Summer is the peak RV season. June through early September brings the warmest, driest weather, the best river conditions for boating and swimming, and the highest demand at riverfront private parks. July is the driest month, averaging only about 19 mm of rainfall, and holiday weekends and salmon runs fill riverfront sites well in advance, so reserve early.
Spring and fall are quieter and still workable for RV travel. Shoulder seasons mean cooler nights, more rain, and excellent fishing windows, particularly for fall Chinook on the lower Columbia. Wildlife viewing at Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge is strongest from late fall through spring as migratory waterfowl arrive.
Winter is the wet season. Most private RV parks in the area stay open year-round, but Sand Island Campground operates from March through October because access depends on the boat shuttle from the St. Helens Marina. Expect persistent rain, fog, and occasional high river levels rather than heavy snow at this elevation.

Torrey is responsive, super helpful, and the RV was clean and in great shape all around five stars.

Took the trailer out for a long holiday weekend. Torrey and Nick were super nice and helpful. We called with a few questions and they were helpful and got us up and running. Highly recommend!

Great set up. We ended up not using some of the add ons as we got cleared out early due to smoke/fires and were reimbursed appropriately. Very professional communications. Nice for a small family of 4 for the weekend or more. 8 YO boy enjoyed it too: “dad do you think you could quit work and we could just drive around in this van for the rest of the year?”

Thanks Radek and Anna for the amazing experience!

How to book campgrounds near Columbia City
Private RV parks in this area handle reservations directly. Columbia Riverfront RV Park, Bayport RV Park and Campground, Woodland Shores RV Park, and Pekin Ferry RV Park & Campground take bookings by phone or through their own websites, and several also accept reservations through Campspot or CampLife. Cancellation windows vary by operator, and holiday weekends typically carry stricter terms, so review policies before confirming.
Sand Island Campground books through Campspot and the City of St. Helens operator, and the on-site camp host can accept day-of walk-up or phone reservations when sites are available. Plan the shuttle pickup at the St. Helens Marina boat launch and confirm shuttle hours before arrival.
For peak summer weekends, book several months ahead, especially for riverfront pull-throughs that fit larger rigs.
What to expect on the ground
Most private parks in this corridor offer full hookups, laundry, restrooms with showers, and Wi-Fi. Columbia Riverfront RV Park has 76 full hook-up sites, 65 with 20/30/50 amp and 11 with 20/30 amp, pull-throughs up to 78 feet, and is large-rig friendly to 45 feet, with over 900 feet of sandy beach and a mile of beach for walking, a park store, and propane on site. Its swimming pool is seasonal, running Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
Sand Island is the outlier: primitive tent sites with no electric hookups, reached by boat shuttle, with bathrooms on the island and showers a short ride back at the marina. It is not an RV option but works well as a side trip from a nearby RV base.
Cell service is generally solid near the river. Stock up on groceries and propane in St. Helens, Scappoose, or Woodland before checking in.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Columbia City, OR
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Columbia City, OR?
RV rental in Columbia City is one of the more affordable ways to explore the Pacific Northwest. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans run roughly $150 to $225, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes range from $200 to $350 per night. Hosts set their own pricing, so you can filter by budget and compare listings side by side. For a cheap RV rental in Columbia City, book midweek, target shoulder months like late April or September, and look for listings offering longer-stay discounts. Many local hosts offer 10 to 20 percent off weekly bookings, which adds up fast on a Columbia River road trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Columbia%20City%2C%20OregonWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Columbia City, Oregon?
Great news for first-timers: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Columbia City. Oregon does not require a Commercial Driver License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for the personal motorhomes and trailers listed on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). Approvals often come through the same day, so you can lock in your dates and start planning your Columbia River adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental in Columbia City covered by insurance and roadside assistance?
Yes, every RV rental in Columbia City booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out on Highway 30 with real peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover accidental damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host. Roadside help is a phone call away if you get a flat near Scappoose, lock yourself out at a Columbia River viewpoint, or need a tow back toward Portland. It is designed specifically for peer-to-peer RV rentals, covering scenarios a standard auto policy often will not.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat happens if I need to cancel my Columbia City RV rental?
You can book with confidence. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and it includes a money-back grace period after booking so you are not locked in the moment you confirm. The exact refund window depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. If a host cancels, you receive a full refund or travel credit. If plans shift, open your trip in your RVezy dashboard to see your options. Pro tip: if a Columbia River weather system rolls in, message your host early. Many are happy to adjust pickup times so you can still enjoy your trip safely.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Columbia City?
Absolutely. Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rentals in Columbia City, and dogs love this stretch of the lower Columbia River. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see listings that welcome four-legged co-pilots. Once you are rolling, take them to Pixie Park in Columbia City for a leash-free romp, or head about 15 minutes south to Scappoose Bay for paddle-friendly shorelines. L.L. Stub Stewart State Park, roughly an hour southwest, has pet-friendly campsites and miles of forested trails. Pack a leash, waste bags, and a crate or blanket so your pup has a familiar spot inside the RV, and let your host know upfront for a smooth handoff.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=180Can the RV be delivered to my campsite near Columbia City?
Yes, RV delivery in Columbia City is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will tow or drive the rig directly to your campsite, vacation rental, or driveway, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. Popular delivery destinations include Scaponia Park and L.L. Stub Stewart State Park, both within about an hour. Delivery fees are usually based on mileage from the host's location, so closer pickups in St. Helens or Scappoose tend to be the most affordable. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see which hosts offer it.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Columbia%20City%2C%20OregonHow far can I travel on a Columbia City RV trip?
You have incredible range from Columbia City, sitting right on Highway 30 between Portland and Astoria. Many hosts offer generous daily mileage allowances, and some list RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect if you want to roam. Popular drives include Astoria and the Oregon Coast (about 75 miles northwest), Mount Hood (about 90 miles east), Cannon Beach (about 90 miles), and Mount St. Helens in Washington (about 70 miles north). Crater Lake is a longer haul, roughly 290 miles south. For an RV road trip from Columbia City, the Lewis and Clark route along Highway 30 to Astoria is hard to beat. Check each listing's mileage policy before booking so you can plan freely.
tripcheck.com/Where are the best campgrounds near Columbia City, OR?
You are spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near Columbia City include Scaponia Park in the Coast Range (peaceful, forested, county-managed), L.L. Stub Stewart State Park about 40 miles southwest (full-hookup loops and dark-sky stargazing), and Jones Beach on the Columbia River for primitive camping with sunset views. Big Eddy County Park near Vernonia offers riverside sites along the Nehalem. For full resort amenities, RV parks in nearby Rainier and St. Helens offer riverfront sites with Columbia River views. Book Oregon State Parks up to six months out through the official reservation portal, especially for summer weekends when waterfront sites near Columbia City vanish fast.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=parkPage.dsp_parkPage&parkId=180When is the best time to rent an RV in Columbia City?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Columbia City is mid-June through mid-September, when the Pacific Northwest dries out and average highs sit between 70F and 80F. July and August are the warmest and driest months (lows around 50F, highs near 80F), ideal for Columbia River sunsets and Coast Range hikes. Spring shoulder season (May to early June) is greener and often cheaper, while September offers golden light and thinner crowds. Winter brings cool, wet weather with average highs in the mid-40s, but if you want a cozy storm-watching trip toward Astoria, a winterized rental works well. Book summer dates 8 to 12 weeks ahead for the best selection.
weather.gov/pqr/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be able to figure it out?
You absolutely will, and you will not be left to guess. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through the generator, water systems, slide-outs, leveling, propane, and dump procedures. You can also message your host before booking with any question, no commitment needed. First time renting an RV in Columbia City? Start with something modest, like a small Class C motorhome or a 20 to 25 foot travel trailer, both easy to handle on Highway 30 and at local campgrounds. Many first-timers do an overnight closer to home as a shakedown run before heading farther afield. RVezy support is also available if a question pops up mid-trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/What happens if the RV breaks down during my Columbia City trip?
You are covered. Every motorhome rental in Columbia City booked through RVezy comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included in the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are at a viewpoint on Highway 30, in the Tillamook State Forest, or parked at L.L. Stub Stewart. Roadside handles common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. Your host is also a great first contact for quirks specific to their rig. Pro tip: snap a few photos of the RV at pickup and save the host's number plus the RVezy support line in your phone before you leave Columbia City, in case cell service gets thin out toward the Coast Range.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Columbia City RV rental into Washington or across state lines?
Yes, crossing into Washington is one of the most popular things to do on a Columbia City RV trip. The Lewis and Clark Bridge in Rainier is only about 10 minutes north and puts you straight into Washington. Cross-state US travel is generally allowed and your RVezy protection plan follows you. Many guests loop up to Mount St. Helens or Mount Rainier National Park (about 3 hours). Confirm your route with your host when you book so they know your plan. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Canada-bound trips may be possible with host approval, so message them through the listing before booking.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for my Columbia City RV rental?
Plan smart and you will be fine. Class B campervan rentals in Columbia City typically get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 MPG, and larger Class A rigs land around 7 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, usually 10 to 14 MPG combined. Oregon gas prices tend to run a bit above the national average. Fill up in St. Helens or Scappoose where prices are typically lower than near Astoria or Portland metro. Pro tip: Oregon has shifted to mostly self-serve fueling statewide as of 2023, but full-service is still common in rural stations, so signage at the pump will tell you which applies.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Columbia City?
For summer weekends, book six months ahead, the maximum window Oregon State Parks allows through their official reservation system, and waterfront sites near the Columbia River go fast. L.L. Stub Stewart and Fort Stevens (on the coast about 90 miles west) often sell out months in advance for July and August. Columbia County parks tend to have shorter lead times, often 2 to 4 weeks for weekdays. Midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) almost always have openings, even last minute. Pro tip: set a reminder for exactly six months before your target arrival date, log in at 7 a.m. Pacific, and you will have your pick of the best sites for your family RV trip in Columbia City.
stateparks.oregon.gov/What are driving conditions like around Columbia City?
Driving here is very approachable, which is part of why renting an RV in Columbia City is so popular. Highway 30 (the main route through town) is a wide, mostly two-lane highway with gentle curves following the Columbia River, easy for first-time RV drivers. Watch for log trucks on weekdays and occasional fog along the river in fall and winter. Avoid central downtown Portland with larger rigs (low bridges and tight streets), and instead use I-405 or US-30 to bypass. Coast Range routes like Highway 26 to Cannon Beach include grades up to 6 percent, so downshift and take it slow. Winter can bring rain and rarely snow at low elevations, but tire chains are smart if you are heading toward Mount Hood.
tripcheck.com/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Columbia City?
Most developed campgrounds near Columbia City offer the full setup: 30 or 50 amp electric, potable water, and sewer hookups at premium sites, plus shared dump stations for the rest. RV parks in Rainier and St. Helens have full hookups, while L.L. Stub Stewart State Park offers full and electric/water sites. For dump and freshwater fill on the road, RV parks in Scappoose and stops in St. Helens are convenient. Many parks also have hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi at the office. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a sewer hose support, and a surge protector, the three things first-timers always wish they had packed for their Oregon RV trip.
stateparks.oregon.gov/What's included inside a typical Columbia City RV rental?
You will be impressed by how dialed-in most rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Columbia City sleeps 4 to 8, with a queen bed, dinette and sofa conversions, a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink), and a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower. Expect roof AC, a furnace for chilly Oregon nights, fresh, gray, and black water tanks, and seatbelts for traveling passengers (always confirm the count with your host). Many listings include a generator, outdoor speakers, a TV, and Wi-Fi hotspot or starter kits with sheets, towels, and kitchenware. Campervan rentals in Columbia City often add solar panels and pop-tops. Check each listing's amenities section to match the rig to your trip style.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Columbia%20City%2C%20OregonWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts offer a menu of extras that make RV camping in Columbia City easier. Common add-ons include kitchen kits, bedding bundles, camp chairs and tables, bike racks, generators, propane fills, and pet cleaning fees. Mileage policies typically range from 100 to 250 free miles per night, with additional miles around $0.35 to $0.50 each, and some hosts offer unlimited mileage packages for longer Pacific Northwest loops. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Columbia City, St. Helens, or Scappoose, with delivery available for a fee. Pro tip: bundle add-ons during booking rather than at pickup, hosts often discount packages and you will save time on departure day.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Columbia%20City%2C%20OregonHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment on RVezy is simple and fully online, no cash, no awkward handoffs. You pay your booking total securely through the platform with a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) and is released back to you a few days after a clean return. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround with your host at pickup, photograph the exterior, interior, and odometer, and return the RV with the same fuel level and propane (or pay a small refill fee). That short routine is the best way to ensure a smooth, deposit-back ending to your Columbia City RV trip.
