Campgrounds and RV parks near Dunthorpe, OR

Dunthorpe is an unincorporated community in southwestern Multnomah County, sitting on the west bank of the Willamette River just south of Portland city limits and north of Lake Oswego. The CDP is exclusively residential with no campgrounds inside its borders, so RV travelers base themselves at parks elsewhere in the Portland metro area and drive in for river access, Tryon Creek State Natural Area, and Elk Rock Garden. The closest full-hookup options sit south and east of Dunthorpe across the Willamette and Columbia. Sun Outdoors Portland South and Roamers Rest RV Park LLC anchor the south-metro cluster near Lake Oswego, Tualatin, and Tigard, putting renters within roughly fifteen to twenty minutes of Dunthorpe by car. North of the city, Columbia River RV Park and Jantzen Beach RV Park sit along the Columbia waterfront in north Portland, offering a longer drive to Dunthorpe but easier access to the airport, Mount Hood corridor, and the Washington side of the river. Oregon Route 43 along the Willamette provides the most direct route between southern parks and Dunthorpe.

Private parks in the Portland metro, including the options listed above, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends, holiday periods, and any dates overlapping major Portland events should be booked several months out, as full-hookup pull-throughs near the city are limited. For public-land trips from a Dunthorpe base, two systems matter. Reservations are accepted at most Oregon state park campgrounds and can be made one day to six months in advance. Campsites, cabins, and fire lookouts on U.S. Forest Service lands can be booked through Recreation.gov up to six months in advance. Some campgrounds are first-come, first-served, so check individual park pages for season dates and reservation information. To receive a full refund on a state park reservation, Oregon requires cancellation three or more days in advance of the arrival date.
