Campgrounds and RV parks near Florence, OR

The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is the headline attraction, with rentable ATVs and sandboards available locally. Honeyman sits within the larger dune system that runs south from Florence toward Coos Bay, and the dunes can also be reached from South Jetty Road. Freshwater swimming and paddling are easy half-day outings. Honeyman includes two natural freshwater lakes: Cleawox, which is popular for swimming, and Woahink, which has a public boat ramp. Mercer Lake offers quieter paddling away from the dune crowds. In town, Old Town Florence has a walkable waterfront, shops, and restaurants. The Port of Siuslaw area supports river and ocean fishing for salmon, crab, steelhead, sturgeon, and halibut. Day trips north reach Heceta Head Lighthouse and the Sea Lion Caves.

Summer is peak season. Coastal fog can linger into mid-morning, then skies often clear, and the dunes draw heavy ATV traffic on weekends. Sites at Jessie M Honeyman State Park and South Jetty RV and Camping Resort fill weeks ahead, particularly around the Fourth of July. Visitors may experience loud noise from May 1 through September 30 due to the proximity of the off-highway vehicle management area. Spring and fall are quieter and often the best windows for RV travel. Spring brings out the pink rhododendrons, and the fall huckleberries and blackberries are ripe for the picking. Be aware of one major seasonal closure: from March 15 through September 15, western snowy plover nesting restrictions are in effect on designated beaches, with foot and equestrian traffic allowed only on wet, packed sand and other recreation prohibited in those areas. Winter is wet but uncrowded. From October 1 through April 30, ATVs can drive directly onto the dunes from Honeyman's H Loop, which makes the off-season attractive for riders. Expect mud, sustained rain, and the occasional wind event.

Sites in the area range from full-hookup riverfront pads to forested state-park loops. Honeyman has 416 campsites including 47 full-hookup sites, 121 electric and water sites, 187 tent sites, and 10 yurts, with flush toilets, showers, potable water, trash dumpsters, fire rings, tables, and grills at each site. Cell service is fair to poor depending on location within the park, and WiFi is not available. Coastal conditions shape the experience. Expect unpredictable weather with foggy mornings and windy afternoons, biting insects in warmer months, and soft sand near the dunes. Winter stays call for rain gear and boots due to muddy conditions. ATV rules are strict inside state-park boundaries. ATVs may not be started or unloaded within the campground during prime season, and only campers in H Loop or Yurt 316 may use the park's direct dune access, available October 1 through April 30.
