Things to do near Gervais
The Champoeg area provides paved bike paths, an 18-hole disc golf course, hiking trails, and river access from the boat dock for fishing and kayaking. The park sits along the Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway, one of Oregon's well-signed bike routes. Families will find a playground, camp store, and historical exhibits on site.
Willamette Mission State Park offers nearly 15 miles of trails on foot or horseback, and the nation's largest black cottonwood sits on the shores of Mission Lake, more than 28 feet in circumference and more than 155 feet tall. Anglers can fish for bluegill, crappie, carp, and largemouth bass in Mission and Goose lakes.
Nearby, valley wineries, the Woodburn Premium Outlets, the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in spring, and Silver Falls State Park to the east round out a multi-day itinerary.

The Willamette Valley follows a clear wet-dry pattern. Late spring through early fall offers the most reliable camping weather, with dry, warm days and cool nights. The best window for visiting Willamette Mission State Park is during the dry months from late spring to early fall, while winter and spring may bring heavy rainstorms that flood trails and force closures, so checking conditions before a trip is wise.
Seasonal closures matter for trip planning. At Willamette Mission State Park, reservable facilities, including the horse camp, group camp, and shelters, are closed October 1 through May 15. Flooding occurs annually during winter months, which explains the restricted seasonal operation. At Champoeg, B Loop, yurts, and cabins remain open year-round while A Loop closes seasonally.
Summer weekends fill quickly at state parks within easy reach of Portland and Salem. Shoulder seasons in late spring and early fall can offer cooler temperatures, lower demand, and easier last-minute booking, with rain gear still recommended.

Great set up. We ended up not using some of the add ons as we got cleared out early due to smoke/fires and were reimbursed appropriately. Very professional communications. Nice for a small family of 4 for the weekend or more. 8 YO boy enjoyed it too: “dad do you think you could quit work and we could just drive around in this van for the rest of the year?”

Thanks Radek and Anna for the amazing experience!

Willamette Mission State Park does not have showers, and the horse camp is equestrian-focused, with stalls, a fire ring, and picnic tables at each site. The park's location near water means mosquitoes become active at dusk.
Hee Hee Illahee RV Resort offers full hookups with 30- and 50-amp power, Wi-Fi, and resort-style amenities. Firewood restrictions are in effect across the area due to the emerald ash borer quarantine, so buy firewood locally or use certified heat-treated wood.
