Campgrounds and RV parks near Hubbard, OR

Champoeg State Heritage Area is the area's biggest draw. The park sits on the Willamette River and includes paved bike and walking paths past historical landmarks, an 18-hole disc golf course, a boat dock for fishing and kayaking, and a visitor center covering the 1843 pioneer vote that formed Oregon's first provisional government. More than 130 bird species have been recorded in the park. The park also marks one end of the Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway, a signed long-distance route running south toward Eugene. A 4-mile park trail runs east along the river to the Historic Butteville Store, possibly the oldest operating store in Oregon. Newell Pioneer Village, with a restored settler cabin and 19th-century school and jail, sits just outside the park boundary. Silver Falls State Park, with its waterfall trail loop, is roughly an hour southeast.

The Willamette Valley has a Mediterranean climate with wet, mild winters and dry, warm summers. July and August are the driest months, with average highs in the upper 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit and very little rain. This is peak RV season, and reservations at Champoeg fill quickly for summer weekends. Late spring and early fall are quieter but still pleasant. May through mid-June brings green hills, wildflowers, and longer daylight, while September and early October offer mostly dry weather, harvest activity at local wineries, and lower occupancy. River fog is common on cool mornings. November through February is the wet season. December is typically the rainiest month, with frequent overcast days and occasional low-elevation snow. At Champoeg, the B Loop, yurts, and cabins remain open year-round while the A Loop closes seasonally. Some private parks also reduce services in winter. RV travelers should plan for muddy sites, short daylight, and slick freeway conditions during winter storms.

The campgrounds near Hubbard are easy-access, freeway-adjacent stops rather than backcountry destinations. Roads are paved, sites are generally level, and big rigs are accommodated at both Champoeg and the private parks along I-5. Some traffic noise is audible at Champoeg from nearby I-5, though tree cover dampens it. Champoeg offers full-hookup, electric, tent, yurt, and cabin sites, plus hot showers, flush restrooms, a dump station, potable water, a camp store, and a designated off-leash dog area. Only one RV is permitted per site, with a maximum of two vehicles total. Firewood restrictions are in place due to the emerald ash borer quarantine; buy locally within 10 miles or use certified heat-treated wood. Cell coverage is generally reliable throughout the area. Groceries, fuel, and propane are available in Woodburn and Aurora, both within a short drive.
