Campgrounds and RV parks near Metzger, OR

Day trips from a Metzger base cover a wide range. Washington Square and downtown Tigard are minutes away for groceries, restocking, and laundry. Forest Park, the Oregon Zoo, Portland Japanese Garden, and OMSI sit within a 20 to 30 minute drive, and the Tualatin and Willamette rivers offer paddling and shoreline parks. For longer outings, the Columbia River Gorge waterfalls corridor along the historic highway and Mount Hood reach east via I-84 and US-26. Cannon Beach, Seaside, and the Tillamook Coast lie roughly 90 minutes west on US-26. Wine country in the Dundee Hills and Willamette Valley sits south through Newberg and McMinnville, with many wineries offering RV-accessible parking by appointment.

Summer is the busiest and driest stretch. July is the driest month, averaging about 14 mm of precipitation and only around three rainy days, with average highs in the upper 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit. Private RV parks near Metzger frequently fill on weekends from late June through Labor Day, and Oregon State Parks along the coast and in the Gorge book up quickly during this window. Spring and fall are shoulder seasons with milder temperatures and lower demand. March through May brings rain showers, blooming wine-country valleys, and easier weekend availability. September into mid-October often delivers a pleasant combination of drier days and open sites, though wildfire smoke from regional fires can occasionally affect air quality in late summer. Winter is wet but mild, with temperatures rarely dropping into hard freezes in the metro. December is the wettest month, averaging about 197 mm of precipitation. Most Portland-area private RV parks operate year-round, but expect heavy rainfall, occasional lowland snow, and mountain passes that may require chains or traction tires.

Metzger itself is residential, not a destination campground hub, so plan on staying at one of the metro-area RV parks and using it as a base. Expect urban-style RV parks with paved or gravel pads, full hookups, Wi-Fi, and proximity to freeways. Traffic on I-5 and Highway 217 backs up at peak commute hours, so time arrivals and departures outside of 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Groceries, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are easy to find across Tigard, Tualatin, and Beaverton. Pacific Northwest rain is a real planning factor for much of the year, so pack layers, waterproof footwear, and an awning setup that handles steady drizzle. Cell coverage is strong across the metro but drops off quickly in the Coast Range and parts of the Gorge.
