Camping near Oak Hills, Oregon
Oak Hills is a census-designated place in Washington County, Oregon, on unincorporated land north of Beaverton and west of Cedar Mill. The community sits just off the Sunset Highway (US 26), which makes it a practical base for RV travelers exploring the greater Portland metro area, the Columbia River corridor, and the north Oregon Coast.
There are no campgrounds inside Oak Hills itself. RV options are clustered on the Columbia River and along the Tualatin Valley to the south, typically within a 20 to 40 minute drive. Closest private parks include Roamers Rest RV Park LLC in Tualatin, Jantzen Beach RV Park on Hayden Island, Reeder Beach RV Park and Country Store on Sauvie Island, and Columbia River RV Park in northeast Portland.
From an Oak Hills base, the Oregon coast at Cannon Beach is roughly 75 miles west, Mount Hood is about 75 miles east, and the Columbia River Gorge is a short drive up I-84. Most travelers use the area as an urban-adjacent staging point rather than a destination campground in itself.
Things to do near Oak Hills
The Portland metro side of Oak Hills puts a full city's worth of attractions within reach: the Oregon Zoo and Hoyt Arboretum at Washington Park, the Portland Japanese Garden, OMSI, and the Saturday Market downtown. Families based at Jantzen Beach RV Park have direct access to the Columbia River waterfront and shopping on Hayden Island.
For outdoor days, Sauvie Island, served by Reeder Beach RV Park and Country Store, offers beaches, U-pick farms, and wildlife viewing. The Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge sits near Roamers Rest RV Park LLC. The Columbia River Gorge, with Multnomah Falls and the Historic Columbia River Highway, is roughly an hour east, and Mount Hood's ski areas, alpine lakes, and the Timberline Lodge are reachable as a day trip on US 26.

The Portland area has a marine climate with dry summers and wet winters. Peak RV season runs roughly mid-June through mid-September, when daytime highs commonly sit in the upper 70s to mid 80s Fahrenheit and rainfall is at its annual low. July is the driest month. Private RV parks near Oak Hills stay open year-round, but coastal and Cascade state-park campgrounds fill quickly in this window and should be booked well in advance.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons. Expect cool, showery days, mild nights, and good availability at most parks. Wildflowers in the Columbia River Gorge typically peak in April and May, and fall color along the Sandy and Clackamas rivers peaks in mid to late October.
Winter is mild but persistently wet, with overcast skies and occasional lowland snow or ice storms. Mountain passes on US 26 and I-84 can require traction tires or chains. Lower-elevation Columbia River RV parks remain operational, while many Cascade and coastal campgrounds reduce loops or close for the season.

Torrey is responsive, super helpful, and the RV was clean and in great shape all around five stars.

Took the trailer out for a long holiday weekend. Torrey and Nick were super nice and helpful. We called with a few questions and they were helpful and got us up and running. Highly recommend!

Great set up. We ended up not using some of the add ons as we got cleared out early due to smoke/fires and were reimbursed appropriately. Very professional communications. Nice for a small family of 4 for the weekend or more. 8 YO boy enjoyed it too: “dad do you think you could quit work and we could just drive around in this van for the rest of the year?”

Thanks Radek and Anna for the amazing experience!

Booking an RV site near Oak Hills
Private parks near Oak Hills, including Roamers Rest RV Park LLC, Jantzen Beach RV Park, Reeder Beach RV Park and Country Store, and Columbia River RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends and holidays, book several weeks ahead. Big-rig pull-throughs and full-hookup riverfront sites go first.
For day trips or longer loops, Oregon State Parks accepts new reservations from the day of arrival through six months in advance, with new dates opening online at 6 a.m. Pacific time. Same-day online reservations are now allowed statewide, which is useful for catching cancellations. Cabins, yurts, and popular coastal parks should be booked at the six-month mark when possible. National forest sites on Mount Hood and in the Gorge are booked through Recreation.gov.
What to expect
Sites near Oak Hills are urban or suburban in character rather than wilderness. Expect paved or gravel pads, full hookups at most listed parks, on-site laundry, Wi-Fi of varying quality, and proximity to grocery stores, fuel, and dump stations. Highway noise is common at parks near I-5 and I-205.
Cell coverage across the metro area is strong on all major carriers. It thins out quickly in the Coast Range and on the flanks of Mount Hood, so download maps before leaving. Summer wildfire smoke can drift into the Willamette Valley from August into September, and air-quality alerts do occur.
Drivers should plan around Portland-area rush hours on US 26, I-5, and I-84, especially on Friday afternoons heading to the coast or the mountains. Most private parks enforce quiet hours, leashed-pet rules, and posted speed limits inside the campground.

For a quick first night, Roamers Rest RV Park in Tualatin is just a short drive away. Tip: Oregon State Parks book up to 6 months in advance for summer, so reserve early through the Oregon State Parks Reservation Center.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=parkPage.dsp_parkPageWhen is the best time for an Oak Hills RV trip?
The sweet spot for RV camping near Oak Hills is late June through early October, when the Pacific Northwest dries out and daytime temperatures typically sit in the 70s to mid-80s°F. July and August are peak season with the warmest, driest weather, ideal for coast and Cascades trips. May and September offer better value with mild 60-70°F days and fewer crowds at Mount Hood and the Gorge. Winters are mild but wet (highs around 45-50°F), and shoulder-season hosts often offer lower nightly rates. Tip: a September Oak Hills RV trip can catch the Hood River fruit harvest and Willamette Valley vineyards in full color.
weather.gov/pqr/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You're going to do great. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering everything from leveling and slide-outs to the fresh water system and propane. First time renting an RV? Choose a Class C motorhome or small travel trailer, both very driveable on Oregon's well-maintained highways like US-26 and I-5. You can message your host any time before, during, or after your trip, and RVezy support is available 24/7. Tip: plan a short shakedown trip to L.L. Stub Stewart State Park, about 30 minutes from Oak Hills, before tackling a longer family RV trip in Oak Hills and beyond.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
Help is one phone call away, 24/7, on every RVezy booking. Your rental includes roadside assistance that covers common issues like towing, flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and fuel delivery. If you have a mechanical issue climbing US-26 toward Mount Hood or driving the Historic Columbia River Highway, dispatch will get someone to you. Your host is also reachable directly through the RVezy app for questions about specific systems. Tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate before you leave Oak Hills so you can share details quickly if you ever need roadside support.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Oak Hills RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcomed on most Oak Hills listings, making a road trip from Oak Hills to Washington, Idaho, California, or even British Columbia very doable. Popular cross-state runs include the Olympic Peninsula (about 4 hours north), Redwood National Park (about 6 hours south), and Glacier National Park (about 10-11 hours east). Travel into Canada is allowed by many hosts but requires advance approval, so message the host through the listing before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance limitations. Tip: budget extra time at the Peace Arch border crossing in summer, especially on Friday afternoons heading into BC.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on my Oregon RV trip?
Fuel is the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's easy to plan for. Expect roughly 8-12 miles per gallon (MPG) for Class A and C motorhomes, 12-18 MPG for campervans, and 15-20 MPG for trucks towing travel trailers. Oregon gas prices generally run a bit above the national average, so a 500-mile loop from Oak Hills to the Coast and back in a Class C can cost roughly $200-$300 in fuel. Note that Oregon recently changed its rules and most stations now offer self-serve in addition to full-serve. Tip: fuel up before heading into the Cascades, where prices often jump.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground?
For peak summer weekends near Oak Hills, reserve Oregon State Park campgrounds the day reservations open, exactly 6 months in advance, through the Oregon State Parks Reservation Center. Federal sites like Ainsworth and campgrounds in the Mount Hood National Forest also open 6 months out on Recreation.gov. Private parks like Pheasant Ridge RV Resort in Wilsonville are often more flexible, with 1-2 weeks notice usually enough outside major holidays. Tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) at popular spots like L.L. Stub Stewart often have openings, even in July, perfect if your Oak Hills RV rental schedule is flexible.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=v.page&id=86What are driving conditions like around Oak Hills and the Portland metro?
Driving a motorhome rental in Oak Hills is straightforward thanks to wide suburban streets and easy access to US-26 (the Sunset Highway) heading west toward the coast. Avoid downtown Portland's narrow streets and low bridges; instead, use I-405 and I-5 to bypass the city core. Watch for low clearances on older overpasses and rain-slick roads from October through May. Mount Hood's US-26 east of Sandy can require traction tires or chains November through April. Tip: leave the Portland metro before 3 PM on Fridays to skip westbound coast traffic, and avoid Cornelius Pass Road in an RV due to steep grades.
tripcheck.com/What hookups and amenities will I find at Oregon campgrounds?
Oregon campgrounds are well-equipped for RVs. Many state parks near Oak Hills, including L.L. Stub Stewart and Champoeg, offer full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer) at premium sites and electric-only at standard sites. Dump stations are typically available for registered campers, and fresh water spigots are easy to find. Cell service is solid at Tualatin Valley parks but spotty in the Coast Range and Cascades. Tip: Roamers Rest RV Park in Tualatin and Pheasant Ridge RV Resort in Wilsonville both have laundry, Wi-Fi, and propane refills on-site, making them perfect mid-trip stopovers for any campervan rental Oak Hills traveler.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=parkPage.dsp_parkPageWhat's included inside an RV rental in Oak Hills?
Your Oak Hills RV rental comes ready to roll. Expect comfortable sleeping for 2-8 (depending on size), a kitchen with fridge, stovetop, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many hosts include a generator for off-grid camping, a TV, and sometimes Wi-Fi hotspots as add-ons. Class B campervans are compact and fuel-efficient; Class C motorhomes balance space and driveability; Class A coaches offer maximum interior space. Each listing on RVezy shows exactly what's included, with photos of every space. Tip: message your host to confirm linens and kitchen kits, which many include free or for a small fee.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Oak%20Hills%2C%20OregonWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect?
Hosts in Oak Hills offer a range of helpful add-ons to customize your trip. Common extras include bedding and towel packages, camp chairs and outdoor tables, generators, bike racks, kayak mounts, and stocked kitchen kits, with pricing set by each host. Pickup is typically at the host's home in Oak Hills, Beaverton, or Hillsboro, and many will meet you at Portland International Airport (PDX) for a delivery fee. Mileage policies range from around 100 miles per night to truly unlimited, so compare carefully. Tip: bundle add-ons at booking to simplify pickup and avoid last-minute trips to gear up at retailers in nearby Hillsboro.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Oak%20Hills%2C%20OregonHow does the security deposit and payment work?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure, handled entirely through the platform with no cash exchanged with your host. You pay the rental total upfront with a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit (set by the host, commonly in the $500-$1,500 range) is held on your card before pickup. As long as you return the RV in the condition you received it, the deposit is released after the trip. Tip: do a detailed walkaround video with your host at both pickup and dropoff in Oak Hills to document the RV's condition, the easiest way to ensure a smooth, full deposit return.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Oak Hills during winter?
Yes, winter RV rental in Oregon is absolutely possible and increasingly popular with snow lovers. Many Oak Hills hosts list four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable furnaces, perfect for chasing snow at Mount Hood Meadows (about 75 miles east) or storm-watching on the Oregon Coast. Daytime highs in Oak Hills typically sit around 45-50°F in winter, with rain far more common than snow at this elevation. Look for listings that mention shore power and heated tanks, and confirm with the host that the rig is winter-ready. Tip: a winter trip to Timberline Lodge in a cozy motorhome is one of the most underrated Pacific Northwest experiences.
