Pacific City camping overview
Pacific City sits on the north-central Oregon Coast in Tillamook County, anchored by the sandstone headland of Cape Kiwanda and the wide beach where the town's dory fleet launches directly into the surf. The community is a working fishing port, with more than 300 vessels calling Pacific City home, and it hosts the annual Dory Days celebration on the third weekend in July. Haystack Rock, a sea stack offshore from the cape, dominates the view from most beachfront sites.
RV options cluster within a few miles of the cape. Cape Kiwanda RV Park and Hart's Camp Airstream Hotel and RV Park operate near the beach across from Pelican Brewing, with full hookups and on-site amenities. Pacific City RV and Camping Resort offers a more conventional in-town RV layout, while Neskowin Creek RV Resort sits a short drive south near Neskowin Beach. Camper Cove RV Park and Campground rounds out the small-park options inland along the Nestucca corridor.
The Three Capes Scenic Route links Pacific City north to Cape Lookout and Cape Meares, putting state-park camping, a historic lighthouse, and the Tillamook Creamery within an easy day's drive.
Things to do around Pacific City
The beach at Cape Kiwanda is the central draw: surfing, kite flying, sandboarding the big dune, and watching the dory boats launch through the waves. Booking a guided dory charter is the most common way visitors experience the fleet firsthand, and trips fill quickly in summer.
North of town, Cape Lookout State Park has a five-mile round-trip headland trail through old-growth Sitka spruce and hemlock, with views south to Cape Foulweather and north to Tillamook Head on clear days. The Netarts Spit and adjacent bay are popular for beachcombing, crabbing, and clamming. Bob Straub State Park protects the Nestucca Spit immediately south of town for quiet beach walks. Families often mix beach mornings with creamery tours in Tillamook, tidepooling, and a meal at Pelican Brewing across from the cape.

December - February
48° / 37°F 290 mmWettest season; storms and Nestucca flooding possible
The Oregon Coast runs on a wet-winter, dry-summer cycle. From November through April, daytime highs sit in the high 40s to mid 50s with abundant rainfall, and December alone averages around 12 inches. Snow is very rare on the immediate coast, but winter storms can produce river flooding on the Nestucca and high winds that close roads and beaches.
Late June through September is the prime RV window: drier weather, long daylight, and the busiest reservation calendar. Morning fog along the coast is normal even in midsummer, and ocean breezes keep evenings cool. Snowy plover nesting season runs March 15 through September 15, with foot and equestrian traffic restricted to wet sand and other recreation prohibited on signed dry-sand areas, so plan beach activities accordingly south of the Nestucca Spit.
Shoulder months, May and October, offer lower demand and open sites but cooler, wetter conditions. From October through March, winter weather may cause partial or full closure of the Cape Lookout campground, so confirm before traveling.
How to book campgrounds near Pacific City
Private RV parks in Pacific City take direct reservations through their own websites or by phone. Cape Kiwanda RV Park and Hart's Camp Airstream Hotel and RV Park share ownership and a booking system, with RV sites available year round. Pacific City RV and Camping Resort, Neskowin Creek RV Resort, and Camper Cove RV Park and Campground each handle bookings on their own platforms. Summer weekends and holidays often fill weeks in advance.
State-park sites at Cape Lookout, the nearest public coastal campground, are reserved through the Oregon State Parks system. Online reservations open six months in advance at 6 a.m. Pacific time each day on a rolling basis and can be made up to a day before arrival. Same-day reservations are also available statewide. Yurts and deluxe cabins are popular shoulder-season options and tend to book even faster than tent or RV sites.
What to expect on the ground
Pacific City is small. Most services, including the grocery, fuel, and restaurants, sit within a few blocks of the cape, and the in-town private RV parks are walkable to the beach. Sites at Cape Kiwanda RV Park are close together, but the location across from the beach and Pelican Brewing is the trade-off.
Cell coverage is generally workable in town and patchy along the Three Capes route. Roads in from Portland and the Willamette Valley are two-lane and twisty in spots, and Sandlake Road north of Cape Kiwanda has had stretches reduced to one-lane traffic, so build extra time into arrival plans with a longer rig.
Expect wind off the ocean, cool evenings even in August, and frequent fog. Bring layers, rain gear year round, and a tide chart if planning beach access. Leashed dogs are widely welcome at private parks, and Cape Lookout allows leashed dogs in the campground with off-leash use on the beach just north.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Pacific City, OR
How much does an RV rental in Pacific City cost?
RV rental in Pacific City is more affordable than you might think, with most travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night and Class C motorhomes running roughly $175 to $295 per night during summer. Campervans and smaller Class B rigs often land between $125 and $200, making a cheap RV rental Pacific City option easy to find if you book midweek. Shoulder season trips in May or late September can shave 20 to 30 percent off peak rates, and many hosts offer weekly discounts. Pro tip: book your Pacific City RV trip 8 to 12 weeks ahead of July and August to lock in the best dory-beach-adjacent rigs before they're gone.
traveloregon.com/places-to-go/cities/pacific-city/What license do I need to rent an RV in Pacific City, Oregon?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Pacific City. Oregon does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or trailers, even larger Class A rigs. To rent on RVezy you'll generally need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID securely during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward it is to head out on the Three Capes Scenic Route the same afternoon.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental insurance included for my Pacific City trip?
Yes. Every RVezy booking includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head to Cape Kiwanda with confidence. You choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), picking the plan that fits how far you're driving and the peace of mind you want. Covered events generally include damage to the RV up to the plan's limits, so a chipped windshield from coastal gravel or a minor ding doesn't have to derail your trip. It's one less thing to think about on your motorhome rental Pacific City adventure. Review the full plan details on RVezy before booking so you know exactly what's covered.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Pacific City RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy to every reservation, with a grace period right after booking so you can lock in dates with confidence. Cancellation terms depend on how far ahead of your trip you cancel, and the policy is set by RVezy, not by individual hosts, so the rules are consistent across every listing. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will help with a refund or rebooking credit. If your plans shift, contact RVezy support and they'll walk you through your options. That flexibility makes it easy to plan your Pacific City RV trip months ahead, even if your calendar isn't 100 percent locked in yet.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Pacific City?
Absolutely. Pacific City is one of the most dog-friendly stretches of the Oregon Coast, and finding a pet-friendly RV rental Pacific City listing on RVezy is easy: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search. Pacific City Beach allows leashed dogs year-round, and Bob Straub State Park's long sand spit just south of town is a tail-wagging favorite. Webb County Campground charges a small per-pet fee (around $6 per pet, per stay) and requires dogs to stay leashed in the campground. Many RVezy hosts charge a pet cleaning fee that's clearly listed on the booking page. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet rules and ask about nearby trails their previous guests have loved.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=parkPage.dsp_parkPage&parkId=151Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Pacific City?
Yes, RV delivery Pacific City is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're flying into Portland International Airport (PDX) about 2 hours away. Many RVezy hosts will deliver and set up your rig directly at Cape Kiwanda RV Park (formerly Cape Kiwanda RV Resort, now joined with Hart's Camp) or Thousand Trails Pacific City, then walk you through every system before they leave. That means no towing, no backing into a tight site, and no learning curve on day one. Delivery fees are set by each host and are typically charged per mile from their home base. Filter by Delivery in your search, message a few hosts, and you'll be sipping coffee at the beach by sunset.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pacific%20City%2C%20OregonHow far can I drive on a Pacific City RV trip?
You've got plenty of range to explore. Most Pacific City RV rentals include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some hosts even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for road-tripping the Oregon coast. From Pacific City you can reach Tillamook Creamery in 30 minutes (27 miles), Lincoln City in about 40 minutes (25 miles), Cannon Beach in roughly 1 hour 45 minutes (75 miles), Newport in around 1 hour (50 miles), and Crater Lake in about 5 hours (240 miles). If your itinerary stretches further, just message the host and ask about a higher mileage package up front. Most are happy to add miles for a small per-mile fee, saving you from any overage surprises.
tripcheck.com/Where are the best campgrounds near Pacific City?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Pacific City include Cape Kiwanda RV Park and Hart's Camp (now one property: full hookups, walking distance to Pelican Brewing and the dory beach, plus a pool at Hart's Camp), Thousand Trails Pacific City in Cloverdale (wooded sites, water/electric throughout with limited full-sewer sites), Webb County Campground (budget-friendly Tillamook County park right across from Cape Kiwanda beach, year-round RV and tent camping with a few partial hookup sites), and Cape Lookout State Park about 30 minutes north (yurts, beach access, old-growth forest). Reserve Webb online through Tillamook County and the state park through Oregon State Parks. RV camping Pacific City fills up fast in summer, so reserve as soon as your dates are firm.
tillamookcounty.gov/parks/page/webb-county-campgroundWhen is the best time to visit Pacific City in an RV?
July through September is the sweet spot, with daytime highs around 65 to 70°F, mostly clear skies, and the lowest rainfall of the year (July averages under an inch). August is the warmest month and ideal for surfing, dory boat watching, and beach bonfires. June can still be foggy and cool in the mornings (a local phenomenon called the marine layer), while October brings dramatic skies and far fewer crowds. Winter RV rental in Pacific City is genuinely magical for storm-watching, with crashing surf and cozy nights inside a heated rig. Pro tip: late September delivers summer-like weather, lower rates, and easy campground availability, the smart traveler's secret window.
weather.gov/pqr/I'm renting an RV for the first time. Will I get help?
You'll be in great hands. Every RVezy host gives you a full orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, propane, water systems, slide-outs, and dump procedures so nothing feels mysterious. First time renting an RV? You're far from alone, most Pacific City guests are too, and hosts genuinely enjoy showing newcomers the ropes. You can message your host any time during the trip with questions, and RVezy customer support plus 24/7 roadside assistance (included with your protection plan) are one tap away. Pacific City is also a forgiving place to learn: roads are flat, traffic is light, and the pull-through sites at Cape Kiwanda RV Park are ideal for first-timers. You'll be a confident camper by night two.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my Pacific City trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat on Highway 101, the generator quits at Cape Lookout, or the battery dies near Sand Lake, one phone call gets help dispatched. The Oregon Coast has reliable cell service along the main Highway 101 corridor, and tow operators serve the wider Tillamook County area. Your host is also typically just a text away for quick troubleshooting (often it's a simple switch or breaker). Pro tip: do the host walkthrough thoroughly at pickup and snap photos of the control panels. Nine times out of ten that solves any hiccup in 60 seconds.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Pacific City RV rental on a longer road trip?
Yes, Pacific City is an ideal launchpad for an Oregon coast road trip from Pacific City, and most hosts welcome multi-stop adventures within the lower 48 states. Popular routes include heading north on Highway 101 to Cannon Beach and Astoria (2.5 hours), south to Newport and the Oregon Dunes (1.5 to 3 hours), inland to Willamette Valley wine country (90 minutes), or all the way to Crater Lake National Park (5 hours). Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed with host approval and insurance confirmation, so just message before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Confirm your route with the host and you're free to roam.
traveloregon.com/things-to-do/trip-ideas/scenic-drives/oregon-coast-highway-101/How much should I budget for fuel on a Pacific City RV trip?
Fuel is one of the bigger trip costs, but it's easy to budget. Class C motorhomes around Pacific City average 8 to 10 miles per gallon (mpg), Class B campervans get 16 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 mpg). Oregon gas prices usually run above the national average. Use the U.S. Energy Information Administration's weekly West Coast average as a quick reference when planning, then budget a 300-mile coastal loop in a Class C accordingly. Heads up: Oregon allows self-service at most retail stations as of 2023, but many stations still offer attendant service, especially on the coast. Fill up in Tillamook or Lincoln City where prices tend to be lower than in tiny Pacific City.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Pacific City?
Book early and you'll have your pick. Oregon State Parks like Cape Lookout open reservations 6 months in advance through the Oregon State Parks reservation system, and prime oceanfront sites and yurts sell out within minutes for July and August weekends. Cape Kiwanda RV Park and Hart's Camp also fill 3 to 6 months ahead in peak season. For midweek or shoulder-season trips, 2 to 4 weeks usually works. Thousand Trails Pacific City takes reservations year-round and tends to have more availability for members. Webb County Campground accepts reservations online through Tillamook County. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly 6 months before your target date and log in right when bookings open, that's when the best Cape Lookout yurts get snapped up.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=v.page&id=82What are the driving conditions like around Pacific City?
Driving an RV around Pacific City is refreshingly mellow. Highway 101 (the Oregon Coast Highway) is two lanes with regular pullouts, scenic overlooks, and gentle curves, no white-knuckle mountain passes between PDX and the coast. The route from Portland via Highway 26 to Highway 6 crosses the Coast Range with a few grades but is well-paved and RV-friendly. Coastal fog can roll in fast in early morning, so use low beams and take it slow until it lifts (usually by 10 a.m.). Winter brings rain and occasional wind advisories, so check TripCheck before driving. Avoid the narrow access road onto the sand at Cape Kiwanda, that's for dory boats and 4x4s only, not RVs.
tripcheck.com/What amenities do campgrounds near Pacific City offer?
You'll find solid amenities at every level. Cape Kiwanda RV Park and Hart's Camp offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), hot showers, picnic tables, and fire pits, plus a pool at Hart's Camp. Thousand Trails Pacific City has water and electric throughout with a limited number of full-sewer sites; cell and Wi-Fi can be spotty. Cape Lookout State Park provides electrical hookups, potable water, a dump station, and flush restrooms. Webb County Campground offers hot showers, restrooms, an RV dump station (small fee), and a mix of dry and partial-hookup sites. Pro tip: top off your fresh tank in Tillamook before heading to dispersed sites in the Siuslaw National Forest, where services are limited.
tillamookcounty.gov/parks/page/webb-county-campgroundWhat's included inside a typical Pacific City RV rental?
More than you'd expect. Most Pacific City RV rentals come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, additional sleeping for 2 to 6 guests, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, plates, utensils), a bathroom with toilet and shower, heating, air conditioning, and a dinette. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning with chairs, and a propane grill. Generators are common in Class C motorhomes for boondocking, and seatbelts are provided for every legal travel passenger. Wi-Fi varies, and cell coverage along the Oregon Coast is spotty, so plan to download maps and entertainment ahead. Check each listing's amenity list and message the host if you need something specific like a Pack 'n Play or kayak rack.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pacific%20City%2C%20OregonWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for my Pacific City RV rental?
Hosts offer lots of ways to customize your trip. Popular add-ons for a campervan rental Pacific City include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, camping chairs, bikes, kayaks, generators, and pre-stocked propane and fresh water. Many hosts deliver to Pacific City campgrounds, your PDX hotel, or your driveway in the Willamette Valley for a per-mile fee. Pickup is typically at the host's residence with a 30 to 60-minute orientation. Mileage policies range from a set number of free miles per night to unlimited, depending on the host. Pro tip: ask about a bundled package, many hosts will discount add-ons when you book multiple, and that adds real value to your trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pacific%20City%2C%20OregonHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is held on your card before the trip and released after your host confirms the rig was returned in good shape, typically within a few days of drop-off. The deposit amount is set per listing and shown before you book. To avoid any holds turning into charges, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup, take date-stamped photos of the exterior and interior, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if your agreement requires it. Easy in, easy out, and your Pacific City RV trip stays stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV in Pacific City overnight outside of campgrounds?
Pacific City keeps it simple: overnight parking on the beach, in town lots, and at Cape Kiwanda day-use areas is not permitted, but you have great alternatives within minutes. The Tillamook County-managed Webb County Campground sits right across from Cape Kiwanda with year-round RV and tent sites at budget prices. Just north, Cape Lookout State Park offers full campsites, and Whalen Island County Campground in Cloverdale is another nearby option. Where to park an RV in Pacific City is really about choosing one of these nearby campgrounds, all within a short drive of the dory beach. Book ahead and you're golden.
