Campgrounds near Warrenton, Oregon
Warrenton sits at the mouth of the Columbia River on Oregon's north coast, a few miles west of Astoria and a short drive from Seaside. The town is the staging point for trips to one of America's largest public campgrounds, Fort Stevens State Park Campground, plus a cluster of private RV parks that stay open through much of the year.
RV travelers typically choose between a state-park stay inside Fort Stevens or a full-hookup commercial site closer to town. Fort Stevens State Park Campground has 485 campsites, including 174 full-hookup sites with water, sewer, and electricity, along with yurts and cabins inside a 4,300-acre coastal park. Astoria / Warrenton / Seaside KOA Resort, Kampers West Campground, Lewis and Clark Golf and RV Resort, and Columbia Shores RV Park round out the local options with shorter drives to groceries, fuel, and the Astoria waterfront.
Most sites accommodate large rigs and offer 30- and 50-amp service, though loop layouts, tree cover, and proximity to the beach vary.
Things to do near Warrenton
Fort Stevens State Park anchors the local activity list. The park preserves Civil War-era earthen fortifications, World War II gun batteries, and a military museum, plus the rusting wreck of the Peter Iredale on the beach. Coffenbury Lake has a swim area and boat ramp, and the park has over 9 miles of paved bike trails and 6 miles of hiking trails, passing through coastal forests, dunes, and wetlands.
The Pacific beach is open to vehicles in posted areas, with seasonal beach restrictions March 15 to September 15 on Clatsop Spit during nesting season for the western snowy plover. Day trips from Warrenton reach the Astoria Column, the Columbia River Maritime Museum, and the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park at Fort Clatsop. Crabbing, clamming, and surfperch fishing are popular along the shore and in the Columbia estuary.

Summer is the peak camping window. June through early September brings the driest, warmest weather of the year, with July averaging about 27 mm of rain over 8 rainy days and daytime temperatures near 21°C. Sites at Fort Stevens fill quickly, and the park books to capacity on weekends and holidays. September is a quieter shoulder window once school is back in session, with similar weather and lighter crowds.
Fall and winter are wet. Coastal storms drive heavy rain, gusty wind, and occasional power outages from November through February, and November is the wettest month, averaging about 355 mm of precipitation over 24 rainy days. Fort Stevens stays open year-round, though loop availability is reduced outside peak season and some sites convert to first-come, first-served when reservation inventory is limited.
Spring brings whale-watching opportunities and gradually drying weather, though rain gear is still essential.
How to book a campsite near Warrenton
Fort Stevens State Park Campground is booked through the Oregon State Parks reservation system at oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com, up to 6 months in advance, and reservations are required. Summer weekends, holidays, and full-hookup loops sell out as soon as the window opens, so set a reminder for exactly six months ahead of the intended arrival date. Campsite slots are released at 6 a.m. six months in advance, and last-minute reservations due to cancellations can sometimes be made by contacting the park directly.
Private parks in Warrenton, including Astoria / Warrenton / Seaside KOA Resort, Kampers West Campground, Lewis and Clark Golf and RV Resort, and Columbia Shores RV Park, book directly through each property's website or phone line. These fill less aggressively than the state park but still see strong demand on summer weekends and over the Fourth of July. Confirm rig length, slide clearance, and pet policies before booking.
What to expect
Coastal weather is cool and changeable, even in summer. Highs at the beach run noticeably lower than inland Oregon, fog can roll in by mid-afternoon, and wind off the Pacific is constant. Pack layers, a waterproof shell, and warm sleepwear regardless of season.
Fort Stevens is large and family-oriented, with kids on bikes, busy day-use areas, and a long ride between some loops and the beach access. Mosquitoes thrive in the moist, temperate forests around the campground during summer, so bring bug spray. To protect against invasive species, buy firewood at the campground or close to it, since firewood can carry insects and diseases; the Friends of Old Fort Stevens sell firewood within the campground. Cell service is generally reliable in Warrenton, and groceries, fuel, propane, and dump stations are all within a short drive.

traveloregon.com/places-to-go/cities/warrenton/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Warrenton, Oregon?
You're in luck: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Warrenton. Oregon does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RVs, motorhomes, or travel trailers driven for recreational use, regardless of size. You'll just need to be at least 25 years old and upload a valid driver's license to RVezy, which verifies your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before you travel and bring it along with your original license. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the paperwork really is.
oregon.gov/odot/dmv/pages/driverid/licensetype.aspxWhat protection is included when I book an RV rental in Warrenton?
Every booking on RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can hit the road to Fort Stevens or Astoria with real peace of mind. You choose your level of coverage at checkout, not the host, which means you decide how much financial protection feels right for your Warrenton RV trip. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV during your rental period. If you have a flat tire on Highway 101, lock yourself out at the Peter Iredale shipwreck, or run into mechanical trouble, one call gets help dispatched any time of day. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers during checkout so you know exactly what is included before you confirm.

Booking is low risk: RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy to every reservation, including a grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates without second-guessing. Your refund amount depends on how far ahead of your trip you cancel, and RVezy support can help if unexpected circumstances like coastal storm closures affect your plans. You will see the exact cancellation terms before you confirm payment. Pro tip: if you are eyeing a busy Fourth of July or Labor Day weekend at Fort Stevens, book early to secure your RV, then relax knowing the cancellation policy gives you flexibility if something unexpected comes up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Warrenton?
Absolutely, the Oregon Coast is one of the most dog-loving regions in the country, and you'll find plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Warrenton listings on RVezy. Just use the Pet-Friendly filter when searching, and message the host to confirm any pet fee or size limits. Once you're here, your pup will love it: Fort Stevens State Park allows leashed dogs throughout the campground and on the beach, and the long stretch of sand from the South Jetty down past the Peter Iredale shipwreck is perfect for off-leash play (under voice control). Cannon Beach, just 25 miles south, is famously dog-friendly too. Bring a towel, sandy paws are part of the experience.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=129Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Warrenton?
Yes, and RV delivery in Warrenton is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if you are a first-timer or flying into Portland. Many RVezy hosts in the Warrenton, Hammond, and Astoria area will deliver the RV directly to Fort Stevens State Park, Kampers West RV Park, or the Astoria/Warrenton/Seaside KOA, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter when searching and enter your campground address to see delivery fees upfront. Pro tip: book your campsite first, then search for an RV that matches the site length and hookup type. You will arrive to a fully set-up home base and skip the towing learning curve entirely.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=129How does mileage work on a Warrenton RV rental?
Hosts on RVezy set their own mileage policies, and you will see them clearly on every listing before you book. Many Warrenton hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, which is plenty for exploring the North Coast since Fort Stevens, Astoria, Seaside, and Cannon Beach are all within a 30-mile radius. If you are planning a longer Oregon Coast RV trip down to Tillamook (about 75 miles) or Newport (about 150 miles), look for listings with unlimited mileage or higher per-night allowances. Overage rates are typically $0.30 to $0.50 per mile. Pro tip: message the host with your route, many will bundle extra miles into your booking at a discount when they know your plans upfront.

The Astoria/Warrenton/Seaside KOA Resort in Hammond has a pool, KOA Patio sites, and family activities. Sunset Lake Resort & RV Park gives you lakefront sites with fishing for bass and trout. stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=129When is the best time to visit Warrenton in an RV?
The sweet spot for a Warrenton RV trip is late June through mid-September, when daytime highs hit a comfortable 65-72°F and rainfall drops to its lowest of the year. July and August are the warmest and driest months, perfect for beach days at Sunset Beach and exploring the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park. Shoulder seasons (May, early June, and late September) offer milder crowds, lower nightly rates, and still-pleasant weather in the high 50s to mid 60s. Winter is rainy and windy with highs in the upper 40s, but Fort Stevens stays open year-round and storm-watching season (November-February) is genuinely magical. Pro tip: pack layers, even August evenings on the coast can dip into the 50s.
weather.gov/pqr/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Warrenton beginner-friendly?
You'll do great, Warrenton is one of the easier places in Oregon to start. First time renting an RV? Your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering everything from leveling and hookups to dumping tanks and operating the generator, and you can text or call them throughout your trip with questions. The roads around Warrenton are flat and forgiving: Highway 101 is well-maintained, the route to Fort Stevens State Park is just a few miles of straight, low-traffic driving, and there are no mountain passes or narrow city streets to worry about. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, book a host with delivery and they'll handle every mile. Pro tip: start with a travel trailer or Class C, they're the most beginner-friendly.
oregon.gov/odot/dmv/pages/driverid/licensetype.aspxWhat happens if something goes wrong with my RV on the road?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you get a flat tire on Highway 101 near Gearhart, run out of fuel heading to Astoria, or have a battery issue overnight at Fort Stevens, one call connects you with help. The RVezy support team is available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Pro tip: snap a few photos of the RV at pickup and save your host's number and the roadside assistance line to your phone before you leave the driveway.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat are popular road trip routes from Warrenton, OR?
Warrenton is the perfect launchpad for an RV road trip along some of the most scenic miles in America. Head south on Highway 101 to Cannon Beach (25 miles) for Haystack Rock, continue to Tillamook (75 miles) for cheese factory tours, or push on to Newport and the Oregon Coast Aquarium (150 miles). Going inland? Portland is about 95 miles east via Highway 30, a flat and easy 2-hour drive. Cross the Astoria-Megler Bridge and you are in Washington's Long Beach Peninsula within 20 minutes, great for clam digging and Cape Disappointment State Park. Note: travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, but cross-border trips into Washington are generally fine, just confirm with your host before booking.
tripcheck.com/How much should I budget for fuel on a Warrenton RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest cost after the rental itself, so it's smart to plan ahead. Oregon gas prices typically run $0.30-$0.60 above the national average, so expect to pay around $4.00-$4.75 per gallon in the Warrenton area. Class A motorhomes average 7-10 mpg, Class C around 10-14 mpg, campervans 15-20 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer roughly 10-13 mpg. For a typical 200-mile loop hitting Cannon Beach, Astoria, and Fort Stevens, budget $60-$120 in fuel depending on your rig. Pro tip: Oregon has full-service gas stations in most areas, but self-serve is now allowed statewide, and Costco in Warrenton consistently has the lowest prices in town.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campsite near Warrenton?
For summer trips, book your campsite the moment your dates are locked in. Fort Stevens State Park opens reservations exactly 6 months in advance through the Oregon State Parks reservation system at oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com, and prime weekends from late June through Labor Day frequently sell out within hours of release. Astoria/Warrenton/Seaside KOA, Kampers West, and Sunset Lake Resort also fill up fast in July and August, aim for 3-4 months ahead. For shoulder season (May or late September), 4-6 weeks is usually plenty. Pro tip: if Fort Stevens shows fully booked, set a free cancellation alert through services like Campnab or CampScanner, last-minute openings pop up almost daily.
oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/fort-stevens-state-park/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=OR&parkId=402178What are the driving conditions like around Warrenton?
Driving in and around Warrenton is refreshingly low-stress for motorhome rental Warrenton renters. The town sits on flat coastal terrain, and the main routes (Highway 101 north-south, Highway 30 east to Portland, and the Astoria-Megler Bridge to Washington) are wide, well-marked, and easy to navigate. Watch for two things: coastal wind gusts on the 4-mile Astoria-Megler Bridge can push high-profile RVs, so reduce speed and grip the wheel firmly, and fog can roll in quickly along Highway 101, especially in early mornings June-August. Winter brings rain and occasional wind advisories. Pro tip: check TripCheck.com (Oregon DOT's road condition site) before you set out, it shows live cameras at the bridge and along 101.
tripcheck.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Warrenton?
You'll find well-equipped campgrounds throughout the Warrenton area. Fort Stevens State Park offers 174 full-hookup sites (water, electric, sewer), 302 electric-with-water sites, hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, drinking water spigots, a camp store, and a playground. Kampers West and the Astoria/Warrenton/Seaside KOA both offer full hookups with 30/50-amp service, Wi-Fi, and laundry. Need to dump or fill water? Fort Stevens has a dedicated dump station (a $10 fee begins March 30, 2026), and most private RV parks let non-guests dump for a small fee. Cell service is spotty inside Fort Stevens (there's an AT&T tower onsite), so download offline maps before you arrive. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot sewer hose, some sites are longer than standard.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=129What features and amenities come standard in a Warrenton RV rental?
Most RVs on RVezy come trip-ready for the Oregon Coast. Expect a queen or king bed, a kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware, a bathroom with a toilet and shower, a dinette that often converts to extra sleeping space, and seatbelts for everyone riding. Heating is essential here (coast evenings get chilly even in summer), and most rigs have it. Many listings also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and a generator or solar setup for off-grid stops. Looking for a campervan rental Warrenton experience? Class B vans are popular for couples and offer easy parking near Astoria's waterfront. Pro tip: filter by 'Sleeps 4+' and check the photos for outdoor chairs, awnings, and a propane fire pit, those small extras make a big difference at Fort Stevens.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=129What add-ons and extras can I get with my RV rental?
Hosts offer all kinds of useful add-ons to customize your trip. Common extras for a Warrenton RV rental include camping chairs and tables, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, generators, propane fire pits, bike racks, and kayaks or SUPs (perfect for Coffenbury Lake at Fort Stevens). Delivery and setup is the most popular add-on locally, with fees shown upfront based on distance from the host's location to your campground. Pickup and dropoff windows are usually flexible: message the host to confirm. Mileage packages can be added or upgraded at booking if you are planning a longer route south to Newport or east to Portland. Pro tip: bundle add-ons in a single message to the host, they will often discount the total.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Warrenton%2C%20OregonHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure: you pay through RVezy when you book, with no cash or off-platform transfers, and your money is held safely until your trip begins. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (the exact amount is set by the host and shown on the listing), and as long as you return the RV in the same condition you got it, it is released back to you shortly after the trip. To avoid any issues, do a thorough walkaround with your host at pickup and dropoff, take date-stamped photos of the interior and exterior, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels you got it with, and dump the tanks if your host requires it. Pro tip: a few quick photos at handover protect everyone and make the whole process smooth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat should I know about cold and wet weather camping near Warrenton?
The North Oregon Coast is mild but wet, and a little prep makes any season comfortable. From November through March, expect daytime highs in the mid-40s to low 50s with frequent rain and wind, so look for RVs with good heating, insulated windows, and (ideally) heated holding tanks if you're traveling December-February. Plug into shore power at Fort Stevens or Kampers West and you'll stay toasty all night. Winter is also one of the best times for storm-watching at the South Jetty and spotting bald eagles along the Columbia. Pro tip: pack waterproof boots, a rain shell, and a few good books. Cozy RV nights with rain on the roof and a hot drink in hand are a Pacific Northwest tradition worth experiencing at least once.
