Campgrounds and RV parks near Willamina, OR

Spirit Mountain Casino, operated by the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, is the area's largest single attraction, with table games, slots, dining venues and a regular concert series at its event center. The Chachalu Museum and Fort Yamhill State Heritage Area sit a short drive away and cover Grand Ronde tribal history and the region's settlement era. The Tillamook State Forest covers roughly 364,000 acres west of town and, across the Browns Camp, Lyda Camp, Diamond Mill, Jordan Creek and Trask OHV areas, includes more than 250 miles of off-highway vehicle trails, plus hiking, mountain biking, swimming holes and fishing on the Wilson, Trask, Nestucca and Nehalem rivers. Fall brings Chinook salmon runs to the Trask, winter holds steelhead, and the McMinnville area to the east anchors the Willamette Valley wine region with hundreds of vineyards within an hour's drive.

Willamina has a Mediterranean climate with cool, very wet winters and warm, dry summers. Most rain falls between November and March, with December typically the wettest month, while July and August are nearly rain-free. Snow at valley elevations is uncommon but does occur a few days each winter. In the Tillamook State Forest, developed campgrounds are generally open from mid-spring through October, while most trails and designated dispersed areas remain open year-round. Browns Camp OHV Campground, the forest's busiest OHV site, reopens April 1 each year and has transitioned to a reservation-only system, with sites bookable through ReserveAmerica. Fire season runs through the dry months, and the Oregon Department of Forestry can close campsites or restrict OHV use when danger is high. At low and moderate fire danger OHV use is not restricted, at high danger riding is allowed only before 1 p.m. and after 8 p.m., and at extreme danger off-road vehicle use is restricted. Check ODF's fire restrictions map before traveling from early summer through fall.

Private parks along the Highway 18 corridor are oriented to travelers and tend to offer full hookups, level pads and basic amenities, with quick access to fuel, groceries and restaurants in Willamina, Sheridan and McMinnville. Cellular coverage is generally reliable in town and along the main highway. State forest campgrounds are rustic by comparison. Each campground features basic amenities such as parking areas, hand-pump water, vault toilets and information kiosks, with semi-primitive sites providing a picnic table, fire pit and a place to pitch a tent. There are no RV hookups, so pack water, propane and supplies before leaving town. Cell service in the OHV areas is spotty at best. Roads narrow quickly past the forest boundary, OHV staging areas can be loud during peak weekends, and wildlife including deer, elk and black bear is common, so secure food and trash at every site.
