Campgrounds near Bellevue, Pennsylvania
Bellevue is a small borough on the north bank of the Ohio River, roughly five miles northwest of downtown Pittsburgh. It sits inside the Pittsburgh metro area, which means RV travelers can base out of nearby campgrounds and reach city attractions, sports venues, and the Three Rivers waterfront in under a half hour. Point State Park, at the confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers in downtown Pittsburgh, is about nine miles from Bellevue.
Most RV parks in this region lie outside the borough itself, spread through the surrounding hills and river valleys of Allegheny, Beaver, and Butler counties. Mountain Top Campground, Indian Brave Campgrounds, Wallace Trailer Sales and Court, Hotel RV Beaver, and Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey are the closest options for travelers looking to plug in near the city.
Options around Pittsburgh include a mix of privately owned RV parks and nearby Pennsylvania state park campgrounds, offering overnight stays within an hour's drive of downtown. The mix works well for families combining city sightseeing with time at a lake or on a trail, and for travelers routing through western Pennsylvania on Interstates 79 and 76.
Things to do near Bellevue
City-side stops are close and easy from any of the surrounding campgrounds. Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh sits about 10 miles from Bellevue, and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, also about 10 miles away, is known for its dinosaur exhibits and natural history collections. The Andy Warhol Museum sits roughly 8 miles away and holds an extensive collection of work by the pop artist Andy Warhol. The Allegheny Observatory in Riverview Park, about 5 miles from Bellevue, offers public tours and telescope viewing on select nights.
For outdoor days, Raccoon Creek State Park lies roughly 30 miles west of Bellevue and features a lake for fishing and boating along with numerous hiking trails. Families staying at Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey can also reach Kennywood amusement park and sections of the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail for day trips.

The western Pennsylvania camping season runs primarily from spring through mid-fall. Many campgrounds in the Pittsburgh region operate seasonally, with peak availability from April through October. Summer weekends and fall foliage weekends are the busiest windows, and popular sites fill months in advance for those dates.
Spring brings unpredictable weather. Conditions can change rapidly, and rainfall may affect trail conditions and campsite drainage. Late April into June generally offers milder daytime temperatures and fewer bugs than midsummer. Summer is warm and humid, and afternoon thunderstorms are common during the peak heating hours in the region.
Fall is a strong second season. Cooler nights, lower humidity, and hillside color from mid-October through early November draw weekend crowds to campgrounds within an hour of the city. Winter camping is limited: from November to April, Pittsburgh can remain below freezing all day long, and the city typically has 32 days a year when the temperature never rises above 32 °F. Many private parks close for the winter or reduce services.

How to book campgrounds near Bellevue
Booking rules split between public and private systems. Pennsylvania state parks, such as Raccoon Creek to the west, use a single reservation portal. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival, advance reservations are available for almost all campsites, and unreserved sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations can be made using the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations website or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday through Saturday, from 7:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M.
Private parks including Mountain Top Campground, Indian Brave Campgrounds, Wallace Trailer Sales and Court, Hotel RV Beaver, and Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey each run their own booking pages, with KOA reservations handled through the KOA network.
Booking early is key during the busy season, as popular campgrounds often fill months in advance for summer weekends and fall foliage. For last-minute trips, midweek arrivals and shoulder-season dates give the best odds.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Bellevue is hilly and cut by river valleys, so access roads to campgrounds can be tight. Some routes wind through narrow back roads that may challenge larger RVs. Travelers in bigger rigs should call ahead for the preferred approach, especially heading up to Mountain Top Campground.
Several campgrounds provide partial hookups, with full-hookup sites less common but available at KOA locations and select private parks. Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey is a reliable pick for full hookups. Cell service is generally strong near developed areas but may be spotty at more remote locations in the surrounding hills.
Expect noise variables that come with an urban region. Rail lines run parallel to several campgrounds, particularly those along the river corridors. Bring leveling blocks for gravel and hillside sites, and plan to buy firewood locally rather than transporting it in.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Bellevue, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Bellevue, PA?
An RV rental in Bellevue, PA is one of the more affordable ways to explore western Pennsylvania. On RVezy, travel trailers typically run around $100 to $150 per night, while motorhomes average closer to $175 to $250 per night depending on size and season. Many hosts offer 10 to 20 percent discounts for weekly and monthly bookings, so longer trips stretch your budget further. To find a cheap RV rental in Bellevue, look at midweek dates in May or September when prices dip and Ohio River Boulevard traffic is lighter. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book listings and message the host about any unlisted weekday discounts. A Steelers weekend or Laurel Highlands getaway can fit your budget faster than you think.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bellevue,%20PennsylvaniaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Bellevue, Pennsylvania?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Bellevue, Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers, even larger Class A rigs you will see on RVezy. Approved RVezy drivers are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID inside the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto club. That is it. You can pick up your motorhome rental in Bellevue and be on Route 65 toward the Allegheny River within an hour.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Bellevue includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Pennsylvania Turnpike with peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damages to the vehicle and offers meaningful financial protection if something unexpected happens on your trip. During checkout you choose your coverage level (not the host), so you can match it to your route, whether that is a short loop to Moraine State Park or a longer haul into the Allegheny National Forest. If you get a flat on I-79 at midnight, one phone call gets help dispatched. Book confidently knowing the safety net is already built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my plans change?
Plans change, and RVezy makes it low-risk to book your Bellevue RV trip. RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates without stress. Refund eligibility after that depends on how far out you cancel from your trip start date. The exact terms are shown on the RVezy website during checkout, not on individual listings. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds guests or provides travel credits. Pro tip: book early to secure the best Pittsburgh-area rigs for Steelers home games or Kennywood weekends, knowing you have flexibility if something shifts.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Bellevue?
Absolutely, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental options in Bellevue are ready for your four-legged co-pilot. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs. Pennsylvania state parks like Raccoon Creek and Moraine allow pets at designated campsites, and the trails around North Park in nearby Allegheny County are excellent for stretching paws after a drive. Bellevue itself has Bayne Park and the riverfront Avalon Community Park within minutes of town. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any breed or size notes, then pack a leash, waste bags, and a copy of vaccination records for campground check-in.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bellevue,%20PennsylvaniaCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway?
Yes, RV delivery in Bellevue is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you are nervous about driving a big rig through Pittsburgh's tunnels and bridges. Many RVezy hosts will deliver your motorhome or travel trailer straight to your campground, a friend's driveway, or a private property anywhere from Bellevue to Raccoon Creek State Park, Moraine, or Ohiopyle. They will level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before handing you the keys. Filter for Delivery on the listing search to see who offers it and how far they will travel. Pro tip: delivery fees usually scale with distance, so booking a host based in the North Hills or Ohio River corridor keeps costs down.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bellevue,%20PennsylvaniaHow does mileage work and how far can I drive on a Bellevue RV trip?
You have real range on a Bellevue RV trip. Each RVezy host sets their own daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day), and many hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect if you are planning a longer road trip from Bellevue. From Bellevue you can reach Ohiopyle State Park in about 90 miles, Erie's Presque Isle in 130 miles, the Allegheny National Forest in about 130 miles, and Niagara Falls in roughly 220 miles, all very doable. The mileage policy is clearly listed on every RV's page, and any overage rate is shown before you book. Pro tip: if you are planning a big loop, filter for unlimited-mileage listings up front to skip per-mile add-ons.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bellevue,%20PennsylvaniaWhere are the best campgrounds near Bellevue, PA?
You have terrific options for RV camping in Bellevue and the surrounding area. Some of the best campgrounds near Bellevue include Pittsburgh South/Washington KOA (about 35 miles south with full hookups and pull-throughs), Pittsburgh North/East KOA Holiday in New Alexandria (an easy hop east via Route 22), the campground at Raccoon Creek State Park (around 30 miles west with electric sites and lake access), and Bear Run Campground near Moraine State Park (about 45 miles north, family-friendly with a pool). Pro tip: book Pennsylvania state park sites at PennsylvaniaStateParks.reserveamerica.com up to 11 months ahead, especially for summer weekends, which sell out fast.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time to rent an RV in Bellevue, PA?
Late spring through mid-October is the sweet spot for an RV rental in Bellevue, PA, with the best weather running mid-May through early October. Summer highs sit in the low to mid 80s and nights stay comfortable in the 60s, while September and October bring crisp air in the 50s to 70s and beautiful fall color across the Laurel Highlands and along the Ohio River. July is peak season (and peak pricing) thanks to Pittsburgh festivals and warm camping nights. For lower prices, fewer crowds, and gorgeous foliage, target the last two weeks of September or first three weeks of October. Pro tip: leaf-peeping weekends near Ohiopyle book out fast, so reserve your RV at least 6 to 8 weeks ahead.
weather.gov/pbz/I have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will be more than okay. First time renting an RV in Bellevue? Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving tips, hookups, the propane system, the slide-outs, leveling, and the dump procedure, so you leave knowing exactly how everything works. Many Bellevue-area hosts specialize in helping first-timers and will text or call mid-trip if you have a question. If the thought of driving a 30-foot Class C through the Fort Pitt Tunnel makes you sweat, choose a smaller Class B campervan rental in Bellevue or book delivery so the host handles the driving and setup. Pro tip: start with a shorter shakedown trip to North Park or Raccoon Creek before tackling a longer route.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bellevue,%20PennsylvaniaWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking comes with 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the included protection plan, so if you get a flat on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, a dead battery at Raccoon Creek, or an engine warning light heading toward Ohiopyle, one phone call gets help on the way. Your host is also a direct message away for quick questions like resetting the inverter or relighting the water heater pilot. RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip via the Help Center. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN, license plate, and the roadside assistance number before you leave the driveway in Bellevue so everything is at your fingertips if you need it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across state lines or into Canada from Bellevue?
Yes, an RV road trip from Bellevue across state lines is absolutely on the table. Bellevue sits about 30 miles from the Ohio border and about 60 miles from West Virginia, making cross-state trips into the Mountain State, Ohio's lake country, or even Niagara Falls (around 220 miles) totally doable. Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and the protection plan selected, so message the host directly from the listing before booking to confirm. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage limits. Pro tip: bring your passport for any Canada-bound trip, and check current border wait times at the Peace Bridge before heading north.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel?
Fuel is usually the biggest road-trip expense, and Bellevue's location makes it easy to plan. Pennsylvania gas prices have recently averaged in the mid-$3 range per gallon, and most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 10 miles per gallon, Class B campervans 15 to 20 mpg, and trucks pulling travel trailers around 10 to 12 mpg. A weekend trip from Bellevue to Ohiopyle and back (about 180 miles round-trip) in a Class C runs roughly $65 to $85 in fuel. Pro tip: gas is often cheaper across the border in Ohio or West Virginia, so consider topping off in Weirton or East Liverpool before a longer haul.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground?
For the best campgrounds near Bellevue, the earlier the better. Pennsylvania state parks like Raccoon Creek, Moraine, and Ohiopyle open reservations up to 11 months in advance through pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com, and prime summer weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) often sell out the day the booking window opens. Private parks like the Washington/Pittsburgh KOA and Mountain Top Campground accept bookings year-round but fill up 2 to 3 months ahead for July and August. For shoulder-season weekends in May, September, and October, 4 to 6 weeks of lead time is usually enough. Pro tip: reserve your RVezy rental first, then book the campground the same day so your dates line up perfectly.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlWhat is driving an RV around Bellevue and Pittsburgh actually like?
Easier than you think, with a couple of local quirks worth knowing. Bellevue itself is a quiet North Hills suburb with calm residential streets, and Ohio River Boulevard (Route 65) is a flat, straightforward route to I-79 and downtown Pittsburgh. Two things to plan for: Pittsburgh's tunnels (Fort Pitt and Squirrel Hill) have posted vertical clearances that handle any standard RV, but rush-hour traffic 7 to 9 am and 4 to 6 pm gets thick, especially through the Fort Pitt Tunnel. Winter brings snow and salt from December through February, so many hosts pause bookings or recommend short trips only during that window. Pro tip: leave Bellevue heading north or west to skip city traffic and reach Moraine or Raccoon Creek in under an hour.
511pa.com/What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Bellevue?
Campgrounds near Bellevue range from full-service resorts to rustic state-park sites, so you can pick what fits your trip. Private parks like Pittsburgh South/Washington KOA and Bear Run typically offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer), hot showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, pools, and on-site dump stations. Pennsylvania state parks such as Raccoon Creek and Moraine offer electric sites with shared modern restrooms, potable water spigots, and a central dump station, plus picnic tables and fire rings at every site. The Sheetz on Lincoln Avenue in Bellevue is a handy last-stop for snacks and fuel. Pro tip: confirm your site's amp service (30 vs 50) matches your rental so you do not need an adapter mid-trip.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/default.aspxWhat features come with an RV rental in Bellevue?
More than you might expect. A typical RV rental in Bellevue, PA comes equipped with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on the rig, heat and air conditioning, fresh/grey/black water tanks, and seat belts for every passenger position. Most listings include a TV, and many include Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, awnings, and generators for off-grid trips to Ohiopyle or Allegheny National Forest. Bedding, kitchenware, and camp chairs are sometimes included and sometimes add-ons, so check the listing. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and amenities like generator or solar to find exactly the rig that matches your family RV trip in Bellevue.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bellevue,%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons can I get, and how do pickup and drop-off work?
Hosts in Bellevue offer plenty of useful add-ons to tailor your trip. Common options include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and tables, bike racks, portable grills, generators, propane refills, and even kayaks for paddling at Lake Arthur or the Youghiogheny River. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Bellevue, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included, and drop-off is the reverse, often with a fuel and dump-station check. Many hosts also offer delivery to your campground for a fee that scales with distance. Pro tip: pickup is typically afternoon and drop-off is morning, so confirm exact times with your host and pad an extra hour for that first walkthrough.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bellevue,%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure through RVezy. You pay for your rental in Bellevue right on the platform with a credit card, no cash or off-platform transfers needed. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card a few days before your trip starts, separate from your booking payment, and assuming the RV comes back in the same condition it left, the hold is released after drop-off, usually within a few business days. Deposit amounts vary by rig and listing, and you will see the exact figure on the listing page and in checkout before you confirm. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a short video at pickup and drop-off so the condition record is crystal clear, which keeps your full deposit moving back to you smoothly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Bellevue, PA?
Bellevue is a fantastic launch pad for a Pennsylvania RV trip. Top road trip destinations include Ohiopyle State Park and Fallingwater (about 90 miles southeast, two-hour drive) for whitewater and Frank Lloyd Wright architecture; Presque Isle State Park in Erie (130 miles north) for Great Lakes beaches; the Allegheny National Forest and Cook Forest (about 130 miles northeast) for old-growth hemlocks; Moraine State Park at Lake Arthur (45 miles north) for easy lakeside weekends; and Niagara Falls (about 220 miles, 3.5 hours) for an international bucket-list stop. Pro tip: a one-week loop hitting Moraine, Cook Forest, and Presque Isle racks up only about 350 driving miles, perfect for a family RV trip in Bellevue without burning out behind the wheel.
