Campgrounds and RV parks near Ben Avon, PA

Ben Avon is a small borough in Allegheny County along the Ohio River, roughly six to eight miles northwest of downtown Pittsburgh. Because the borough itself is residential and built out, RV travelers base here to reach camping in the surrounding hills, river valleys, and Beaver County to the west. Interstates 79 and 279 sit within a few minutes of the borough, which puts most regional campgrounds within a 30 to 60 minute drive. The closest full-service private options include Indian Brave Campgrounds near Harmony, Hotel RV Beaver along the Beaver River, Mountain Top Campground, and Wallace Trailer Sales and Court. For public land camping, the anchor is Sioux - Raccoon Creek State Park, about 40 minutes west, which sits inside one of Pennsylvania's largest state parks at 7,572 acres, centered on the 101-acre Raccoon Lake. Site mix in the area runs from full-hookup RV pads with 30 and 50 amp service to rustic non-electric loops. Travelers should note that some private parks in the region tilt heavily toward seasonal residents, so travel loops can be smaller than the map suggests, and calling ahead for a suitable pull-through is a good idea.

Public sites at Raccoon Creek State Park are booked through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system, operated on the ReserveAmerica platform. Reservations open 11 months in advance and can be made up to three days before arrival, with a noon Eastern release time on the day new inventory opens. Phone bookings are available through 888-PA-PARKS. Private campgrounds handle their own reservations. Indian Brave Campgrounds takes bookings by phone and requires a 50 percent non-refundable deposit, though the deposit can be reused for another stay in the same April 15 to October 15 season on availability. For holiday weekends and peak summer, plan on booking at least two to three months out at private parks, and earlier for cabins and pet-friendly loops at the state park.
