Camping near Lebanon, Pennsylvania
Lebanon sits in south-central Pennsylvania between Hershey and Lancaster, at the northern edge of Pennsylvania Dutch Country and near the base of Blue Mountain. The city is a practical base for RV travelers heading to Hersheypark, Amish farmland, and the Appalachian Trail corridor, with easy access to I-81, I-78, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Most campgrounds in the area are privately operated family and RV resorts. PA Dutch Country RV Resort is an age-qualified property (55+) that does not allow reservations with children, and from April 15 through September 15 reservations are capped at 14 days per site. Family-oriented options within a short drive include Pinch Pond Family Campground, family owned and operated for over 40 years and located in the foothills of northern Lancaster County, halfway between Hershey and Pennsylvania Dutch Country, and Hershey RV and Camping Resort, set on 200 acres of rolling farmland with a small fishing lake, roughly six miles from Hershey's Chocolate World, ZooAmerica, and area outlet centers.
Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA Journey and Camp Swatara sit closer to Blue Mountain, giving renters quick access to state park land and the Swatara Creek water trail.
Things to do around Lebanon
Hersheypark, Hershey's Chocolate World, and ZooAmerica are the top family draws and sit roughly a half hour from most Lebanon-area campgrounds. Lancaster County's Amish farmland, farmers markets, and outlet shopping are a similar drive to the south.
Outdoor recreation is concentrated in two state parks. Swatara State Park covers 3,520 acres in the Swatara Valley between Second and Blue mountains, with scenic Swatara Creek views, wetlands, forest hiking, and highlights including the historic Bordner Cabin and adjacent Acrigg's Falls, best after rain. Memorial Lake State Park sits on 230 acres near the base of Blue Mountain in East Hanover Township and is surrounded by Fort Indiantown Gap, headquarters of the Pennsylvania Army and Air National Guard.
Water-based activity near Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA Journey includes fishing, kayaking, tubing, and access to hiking and biking trails at Swatara State Park, though creek levels can drop in dry stretches and pause rentals.

The core RV season runs late spring through mid-fall. Most private parks and pools open around Memorial Day and close near the end of October. Pinch Pond Family Campground is open April 15 through October 15. At Camp Swatara, the splash pad and swimming pool operate Memorial Day to Labor Day. Swatara Watershed Park's gates are open during a camping season that runs May 1 through October 31, with foot access only the rest of the year.
Summer is the busiest window and lines up with Hersheypark's peak operating calendar, so sites near Hershey fill weeks ahead for weekends. Spring and early fall are quieter, with cooler nights and lower demand.
Winter camping is limited but possible. Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA Journey stays open year round with full-service accommodations for RVers, only a mile off I-78 or I-81, and about 25 minutes northeast of Hershey. State park day-use areas remain open in winter for hiking, but most private-campground amenities shut down after October.

How to book campgrounds near Lebanon
Private resorts near Lebanon take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Thousand Trails properties, which include PA Dutch Country RV Resort and Hershey RV and Camping Resort, book through the rvonthego.com system and offer membership pricing alongside nightly rates. KOA sites at Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA Journey book through koa.com.
State park sites use the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system operated by ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made at least 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance, with inventory releasing at noon Eastern. Book Hersheypark weekends and Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day dates as far ahead as the window allows.
Camp Swatara offers a book-six-nights-get-one-free promotion, and up to 8 people or one family unit may occupy a tent, EW, or EWS site.
What to expect on-site
Most Lebanon-area RV parks are full-hookup family resorts with pools, playgrounds, and camp stores rather than backcountry sites. Pinch Pond sites accommodate everything from the smallest tent to the largest RV, include a campfire ring and picnic table, with RV sites adding water, electric, sewer, and cable TV hookups, and pop-up sites offering water and electric. PA Dutch Country RV Resort features a grocery and convenience store, mini golf, coffee shop, basketball, hiking and biking, fishing, a playground, and free wired internet.
Terrain is rolling farmland and low ridges, so most sites are level and drive-friendly for larger rigs. Cell coverage is generally strong along the I-81 and I-78 corridors and weaker in the Blue Mountain ridge sections of Swatara State Park.
Expect some highway noise at parks close to the interstates and turnpike, and mosquitoes near creek-side sites in mid-summer.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Lebanon, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Lebanon, PA?
RV rental in Lebanon, PA is one of the most affordable ways to explore Pennsylvania Dutch Country. On RVezy, you'll find travel trailers from about $90 to $150 per night, campervans around $150 to $200, and larger Class C motorhomes between $200 and $325 per night, depending on size, age, and season. Booking midweek or in the shoulder months of April, May, September, and October typically saves 15 to 25 percent compared to peak July and August weekends around Hersheypark and the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. Pro tip: use the price filter and look for hosts offering unlimited mileage or weekly discounts. Pair a Tuesday-to-Friday booking with a Memorial Lake State Park day trip and you've got a cheap RV rental Lebanon getaway that still feels like a full vacation.
visitpa.com/explore/regions/dutch-country-roads/lebanon/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Lebanon, Pennsylvania?
Good news: for nearly every RV on RVezy, your regular Class C Pennsylvania driver's license (the standard one almost everyone has) is all you need to rent an RV in Lebanon. Pennsylvania only requires a special non-commercial Class B license for single vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, which is rare on the platform and mostly applies to very large Class A diesel pushers. Travel trailers, campervans, Class C motorhomes, and fifth wheels under that weight are all good to go with a standard license. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. You must be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and ID is verified through the platform.
pa.gov/agencies/penndot/driver-vehicle-services/driver-licensing.htmlIs the RV covered if something goes wrong on my Lebanon trip?
Yes, every RV rental in Lebanon booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Route 422 or I-81 with real peace of mind. RVezy offers multiple protection plan tiers at checkout, so you can match coverage to your comfort level and trip length, whether you're taking a quick weekend to Mount Gretna or a full week loop through Lancaster County. Coverage protects against most accidental damage to the RV during your trip. Pro tip: review your protection options before confirming, then save the RVezy support number to your phone. If anything happens between Lebanon and Hershey, help is one tap away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Lebanon RV rental?
Booking your RV rental in Lebanon is lower-risk than most people expect. RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, which includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in a great rig with confidence. Refund eligibility after that depends on how far out you cancel relative to your trip start date. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will help you rebook or provide a refund. You'll see the full cancellation details on RVezy during checkout, and customer support can walk you through your specific situation. Pro tip: book early to lock in summer dates around the Lebanon Area Fair or the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire in nearby Manheim, then finalize plans knowing you have flexibility.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Lebanon RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Lebanon options are easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) right in their listing. Lebanon County is a dream for dog owners: the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail allows leashed pets, Coleman Memorial Park has plenty of room to roam, and Memorial Lake State Park in Grantville welcomes leashed pets in day-use areas. Many local campgrounds, including Hershey/Conewago KOA and Hersheypark Camping Resort, also welcome pets at designated sites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any breed or size limits, and ask which nearby trails they recommend. Your pup will sleep great after a day of Pennsylvania countryside.
visitlebanonvalley.com/things-to-do/outdoor-recreation/lebanon-valley-rail-trail/Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Lebanon?
Yes, RV delivery Lebanon is one of the most popular options for first-timers and families who'd rather skip driving altogether. Many RVezy hosts in the Lebanon area will deliver and set up the RV right at your campground, such as Hershey/Conewago KOA, Hersheypark Camping Resort, or Twin Grove RV Resort in Pine Grove, then walk you through everything from the awning to the water hookups. Some will even deliver to a private driveway if you're hosting visiting family. Just use the Delivery filter on RVezy and check each host's delivery radius and fee. Pro tip: pair delivery with a campground that has full hookups, and your only job becomes loading the cooler and showing up. It's the easiest way to enjoy RV camping Lebanon without ever towing.
visitlebanonvalley.com/stay-with-us/campgrounds/How far can I drive on a Lebanon RV trip?
Plenty far, and Lebanon is perfectly positioned for a great Pennsylvania RV trip. From downtown Lebanon you can reach Hersheypark in about 25 minutes, Lancaster's Amish Country in 40 minutes, Harrisburg in 35 minutes, Gettysburg in about an hour, and Philadelphia in roughly 1 hour 45 minutes. Pocono Mountains weekends are an easy 2-hour drive northeast. Mileage policies vary by host, with many offering 100 to 150 free miles per night and some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is the smart choice for longer loops. Pro tip: filter for unlimited mileage if you're planning a Lebanon to Niagara Falls or Lebanon to Washington, D.C. trip, both achievable in under 4 hours of driving.
visitpa.com/explore/regions/dutch-country-roads/lebanon/Where are the best campgrounds near Lebanon, PA?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to the best campgrounds near Lebanon. Top picks include Hershey/Conewago KOA in Lebanon County with full hookups and easy Hershey access; Hersheypark Camping Resort, set on landscaped grounds with shuttle access to Hersheypark; Twin Grove RV Resort & Cottages in Pine Grove, a family resort with pools and live entertainment; Pinch Pond Family Campground in Manheim, beloved for its fishing pond; and Memorial Lake State Park in Grantville for day use right at the base of Blue Mountain. Pro tip: book full-hookup sites at the KOA or Twin Grove 3 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends, especially around the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire and Hersheypark in the Dark events.
visitlebanonvalley.com/stay-with-us/campgrounds/When is the best time of year for a Lebanon RV trip?
Late April through October is the sweet spot for RV camping Lebanon, with mid-May to mid-October being absolutely prime. Summer (June to August) brings warm 80 to 88°F days that are perfect for Mount Gretna Lake & Beach and Hersheypark waterpark visits, though humidity can spike. Fall is arguably the best season: September and October deliver crisp 55 to 75°F days, brilliant foliage along the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail, the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, and harvest events at local farms. Spring brings wildflowers and the famous snow goose migration at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area in late February through March. Pro tip: October weekends are heaven but book early. The Renaissance Faire alone packs every campground within 30 miles.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one around Lebanon?
Yes, and Lebanon is actually one of the friendlier areas in Pennsylvania for first time renting an RV. Roads like US-422, US-322, and PA-72 are wide, well-maintained, and far less hectic than driving through Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the generator, slide-outs, water systems, and dump procedures, so you're never tossed the keys and left guessing. If you're nervous, pick a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer (under 25 feet), and ask the host to deliver to your campground. Pro tip: do a short practice loop around a quiet area like Coleman Memorial Park before heading out. Within an hour you'll feel like a pro.
pa.gov/agencies/penndot.htmlWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Lebanon trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so whether you're parked at Memorial Lake State Park or rolling down I-78 toward the Poconos, help is one call away for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. Your host is also a great first call for quirks specific to their RV, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN, license plate, and dashboard warning indicators during your walkthrough, and save the RVezy support number in your phone. With Lebanon's central location, you're rarely more than 30 minutes from a service center in Harrisburg, Reading, or Lancaster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trips from Lebanon, PA?
An RV road trip from Lebanon puts some of the East Coast's best destinations within easy reach. Top routes include: Lebanon to Hershey and Lancaster's Amish Country (under an hour, perfect for a long weekend); Lebanon to Gettysburg National Military Park (about 60 miles, 1.25 hours); Lebanon to the Pocono Mountains (around 90 miles, 2 hours of lake and waterfall country); Lebanon to Niagara Falls (about 320 miles, doable in a day); and the classic Lebanon to Cape May, NJ beach run (around 175 miles, 3.5 hours). Cross-border into Canada is possible on some rentals; just message your host first since insurance must be confirmed. Mexico travel isn't allowed on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: a 5-day loop through Hershey, Lancaster, and Gettysburg is the perfect first PA RV trip.
visitpa.com/explore/regions/dutch-country-roads/lebanon/What kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and what's gas like around Lebanon?
Plan your budget with realistic numbers and you'll have zero surprises. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A RVs around 6 to 10 MPG, campervans 14 to 20 MPG, and a truck pulling a travel trailer roughly 10 to 14 MPG. Gas prices in the Lebanon area generally track close to the Pennsylvania state average, with stations along US-422 and I-78 (Exits 16 and 19) usually offering the best rates compared to highway plazas. Most RVs take regular unleaded, though some Class A and Class B units take diesel, so confirm with your host. Pro tip: download the GasBuddy app and fuel up off the Pennsylvania Turnpike, where prices run noticeably higher than local Lebanon stations.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lebanon?
For peak summer weekends and the famous fall Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire season, book 3 to 6 months ahead, especially for full-hookup sites at Hershey/Conewago KOA, Hersheypark Camping Resort, and Twin Grove RV Resort. Pennsylvania State Parks accept reservations up to 12 months in advance through the state parks reservation system; Memorial Lake State Park is day use only, while nearby French Creek and Gifford Pinchot offer overnight camping. Midweek and shoulder season stays in May or late September can often be booked just a few weeks out. Pro tip: stack a Sunday-to-Thursday campground stay with a weekend at home and you'll often score quieter sites and lower nightly rates while still hitting Hersheypark on a less-crowded weekday.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks.htmlWhat are driving conditions like in and around Lebanon?
Driving around Lebanon is refreshingly low-stress for an RV. The main routes (US-422, US-322, PA-72, I-78, and I-81) are flat to gently rolling with wide lanes, and traffic only gets heavy near Hersheypark on summer weekends and during Penn State football traffic on Saturdays in autumn. Watch for two things: low clearance bridges on older county roads (stick to numbered state routes if you're in a tall Class A or fifth wheel), and Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on rural roads in nearby Lancaster County, where the speed limit drops and patience pays off. Winter snow and ice are possible December through February. Pro tip: avoid downtown Lebanon's narrow Cumberland Street with larger rigs and use the Route 422 bypass instead.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Lebanon?
Lebanon-area campgrounds are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Private parks like Hershey/Conewago KOA, Hersheypark Camping Resort, Twin Grove RV Resort, and Pinch Pond Family Campground typically offer 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer hookups, Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, swimming pools, playgrounds, and camp stores. Dump stations are standard, and most parks let day visitors dump for a small fee if you're boondocking. Potable water fills are easy to find on-site. Memorial Lake State Park offers modern restrooms and picnic areas, though Memorial Lake itself is day-use only with no overnight camping. Pro tip: ask your host whether your RV has fresh, gray, and black tanks and how to use the campground's dump station. Two minutes of explanation saves a messy afternoon.
visitlebanonvalley.com/stay-with-us/campgrounds/What features and amenities do RVs on RVezy in Lebanon typically have?
Most motorhome rental Lebanon and travel trailer listings come fully stocked for a comfortable trip. Expect queen or king beds, a kitchen with fridge, stovetop, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, a dinette that converts to extra sleeping space, air conditioning, a furnace, and seatbelts for safe travel. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, awning, outdoor chairs, and a generator for off-grid stays. Wi-Fi hotspots and solar are common add-ons. Larger Class C and Class A models often sleep 6 to 8 comfortably, perfect for a family RV trip Lebanon. Pro tip: scroll the amenities list on each listing carefully, since hosts customize their rigs. If something matters (like a specific bed size or outdoor kitchen), filter for it or just message the host.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for my Lebanon rental?
You can really customize your campervan rental Lebanon experience. Popular add-ons include bed linens and towel packages, camping chairs, outdoor grills, generators, bike racks, kayaks, propane tanks, and pet bundles, usually $10 to $50 each. Pickup is typically at the host's home in Lebanon, Annville, Palmyra, Cleona, or Jonestown, with most allowing 3 p.m. pickup and 11 a.m. return (hosts set these times). Mileage policies range from 100 to 150 free miles per night up to unlimited mileage. Delivery to local campgrounds is offered by many hosts for a flat fee plus per-mile rate. Pro tip: bundle linens, a starter propane tank, and a portable Wi-Fi hotspot at booking. It's a tiny upcharge that turns pickup day into pure vacation mode.
visitpa.com/explore/regions/dutch-country-roads/lebanon/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking using a major credit or debit card, and your money is held until the trip starts, so the host can't access funds until you've picked up the RV. The security deposit is held (not charged) on your card during your trip and released after return, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition it left in. Deposit amounts vary by RV type and value and are shown clearly before you confirm. Pro tip: do a thorough walkaround video with your host at both pickup and dropoff in Lebanon, noting the fuel level, mileage, and any existing dings. Two minutes of footage protects your deposit and keeps everything friendly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's the local insider tip for an RV trip in Lebanon?
Here's something even many Pennsylvanians miss: Lebanon County is the birthplace of Lebanon Bologna, and the town famously drops a 200-pound bologna instead of a ball on New Year's Eve. Stop by Seltzer's Smokehouse Meats in Palmyra (just 10 minutes from downtown Lebanon) to grab the sweet bologna for the road, and time your RV trip around the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire in nearby Manheim (weekends August through October) or the late-February snow goose migration at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area, one of the most spectacular wildlife events on the East Coast. Pro tip: drive up to the 9-story tower at Governor Dick Environmental Center for a free panoramic view of the entire Lebanon Valley. It's the perfect first stop on day one of your trip.
