Campgrounds and RV parks near Nixon, PA

Lake Arthur anchors most day trips. Visitors can bring boats for sailing, motorboating, fishing, and paddling, and two beaches are open during the summer months for swimming. Picnic areas with grills and restrooms are spread throughout, along with seven pavilions throughout Moraine State Park that are reservable, which suits families basing out of an RV. Hikers and backpackers have access to the Link Road Overnight Shelter on the North Country National Scenic Trail, which is available to backpackers by reservation only. Bear Run Campground is a common base on this side of the lake, with quick access to Lake Arthur's boat launches and trails. For rainy afternoons, Indian Brave Campgrounds and Bear Run both feature on-site pools, playgrounds, and game rooms, and the Grove City Premium Outlets are a short drive up I-79.

Most private campgrounds in the area follow a similar operating window. Most Butler-area campgrounds run seasonally from mid-April through October, with a few operators keeping limited winter availability. Bear Run Campground operates seasonally from mid-April through October, accommodating RVs up to 60 feet with full hookups alongside tent camping, and Indian Brave Campgrounds in Harmony runs a similar spring-through-fall schedule. Summer weekends are the busiest stretch. More than one million boaters, picnickers, hikers, bikers, horseback riders, cabin renters, and swimmers visit the 16,725-acre park each year, with peak activity from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Reservations are strongly recommended, particularly for summer weekends and holiday periods when facilities reach capacity. Shoulder-season trips in late April, May, and September trade warmer swimming weather for open sites and cooler nights. Winter travel is limited: only a handful of private parks stay open, and Moraine's eleven modern cabins, available for rent year round, become the main state-park option once group tenting closes.

Private parks in this area lean family-oriented. Bear Run has over 200 campsites, all-weather or paved, with about half offering full hookups and the rest electric and water, plus big rig sites and pull-through access for large motorhomes. Full-hookup sites include water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electric service, with campground-wide WiFi, a general store, laundry facilities, a propane refill station, and an RV dump station. Expect quieter, smaller operations at Smith Grove Camp Grounds and Buttercup Woodlands, and rolling terrain typical of Butler County. Bear Run spreads across rolling terrain that includes both flat RV sites near the entrance and steeper sections further into the property, so ask about site grading if towing a large trailer. A planning note: alcoholic beverages are prohibited in Pennsylvania state parks, and cell service can be spotty in the more wooded pockets of the area.
