Burnettown sits in Aiken County in western South Carolina, roughly 15 minutes from downtown Aiken and about 20 minutes from Augusta, Georgia. The town is part of the Central Savannah River Area, a region shaped by longleaf pine, sandhills, and the South Fork of the Edisto River. Interstate 20 runs just north of town, making it a practical base for RV travelers moving between Columbia, Augusta, and the Georgia line.
RV options in the immediate area are limited but functional. Carolina Hill Mobile Home and RV Park and Campertown RV Park sit closest to Burnettown, with Aiken RV Park located about one mile off I-20 at Exit 22. Heritage RV Park and Plantation Oaks RV Park round out the nearby choices for travelers who want full hookups within a short drive.
The surrounding landscape is horse country. Aiken is known for equestrian events, thoroughbred training, and Hitchcock Woods, one of the largest urban forests in the United States. Aiken State Park, about 30 minutes east near Windsor, is the main public campground option in the region.
Things to do around Burnettown
Aiken State Park is the primary outdoor draw. The park sits along the South Fork of the Edisto River, with four spring-fed ponds and a 1.7-mile canoe and kayak trail down the south fork. The three-mile Jungle Nature Trail runs a level loop through wetlands and mixed pine and hardwood forest, and there is a seasonal swimming area and playground.
In town, Aiken offers Hitchcock Woods, historic downtown shopping, and a calendar of horse events including the Aiken Steeplechase. Augusta, a short drive across the Savannah River, adds the Riverwalk, museums, and the Augusta Canal for paddling and cycling.

Summer is hot and humid. Daytime highs in July and August routinely reach the low 90s Fahrenheit with high humidity and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. How to book campsites near Burnettown
For Aiken State Park, reservations are handled through the South Carolina State Parks system. Sites can be booked online up to 13 months in advance, and reservations requested less than one day before check-in must be made directly with the park. The minimum stay is two nights, and minimum stays may be increased at some parks during busier periods.
Private parks around Burnettown, including Carolina Hill Mobile Home and RV Park, Campertown RV Park, Aiken RV Park, Heritage RV Park, and Plantation Oaks RV Park, take reservations directly by phone or through their websites. Booking ahead is recommended during the spring horse season, the Masters Tournament week in Augusta, and holiday weekends, when local demand spikes and long-term guests can occupy many sites.
What to expect at area campgrounds
Private parks in the Aiken area lean toward long-stay and workforce guests alongside overnighters. Expect full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, laundry, showers, and Wi-Fi at most locations, along with a mix of short-term and monthly sites. Some parks have newer sections alongside older long-term areas, so calling ahead to confirm site type and rig length is worthwhile for larger Class A and fifth-wheel rentals.
Aiken State Park runs a compact 25-site campground with packed-sand pads, water and 30 and 50 amp electric, and six full-hookup sites numbered 20 through 25. Some sites can accommodate RVs up to about 35 feet, and interior roads are narrow and winding, so drivers of larger rigs should scout carefully. Cell service is limited inside the park across most carriers.
