Campgrounds and RV parks near Due West, SC

Water recreation drives most trips. Lake Russell covers about 26,650 acres, and because the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages the reservoir, its shoreline is largely undeveloped, which keeps the setting quiet for boating, fishing, and swimming. Clarks Hill Lake, at roughly 71,100 acres, is one of the largest constructed lakes east of the Mississippi River and draws anglers targeting bass, crappie, and striper. On land, Calhoun Falls State Park offers a nature trail, tennis and basketball courts, a swimming beach, playgrounds, and fishing piers. Richard B Russell State Park adds the 18-hole Arrowhead Pointe golf course, a disc golf course, and about six miles of hiking and biking trails. Bobby Brown Park has nearly two miles of wooded trails, archery, disc golf, and a self-guided compass course.

The area has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild, wet winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel, with daytime highs typically in the 60s to low 80s Fahrenheit and lower humidity than midsummer. Mild lake temperatures and blooming hardwoods make April and May popular for family trips. Summer brings peak demand at all the lake campgrounds. Swimming beaches at Calhoun Falls State Park and Richard B Russell State Park operate seasonally, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Boat ramps and marinas fill on weekends, and July is the hottest month, with average highs near 91 F. Winter is cool and damp, with regular rain and snowfall rare. Some facilities, including the self-reservation campground at Bobby Brown Park, run seasonally or on reduced hours outside the main season, so confirm dates directly with the park before booking. Richard B Russell State Park and Calhoun Falls State Park remain open year-round.

Calhoun Falls State Park has 86 standard sites with water and 30-amp electric plus a walk-in tent area with centralized water. Some pads accommodate rigs up to 40 feet and others up to 30 feet. There are no full-hookup sites, but a dump station is available. Wi-Fi reaches the park office and day-use beach but not the campgrounds. Bobby Brown Park splits its campground between the Broad River side (25 sites) and Savannah River side (33 sites), with 30/30/20-amp service, water hookups, and a small surcharge for 50-amp use. Comfort stations include restrooms, showers, and laundry, and each loop has a dump station. Richard B Russell State Park offers 27 sites with 30-amp electric and water, suitable for RVs up to 35 feet, plus a dump station, laundry, and campground Wi-Fi. Cell coverage can be spotty at all three state-run lake campgrounds, so download maps in advance.
