Campgrounds and RV parks near East Gaffney, SC

History drives much of the local sightseeing. Cowpens National Battlefield near Gaffney preserves the site of the January 17, 1781 Revolutionary War battle where American forces led by Brigadier General Daniel Morgan defeated Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton and his British force through a classic double envelopment. The visitor center offers exhibits and a battle film, and a walking trail loops the field. A segment of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail also passes through the area. Kings Mountain State Park adds hiking, paddling, and fishing on Lake Crawford, plus connecting trails into the adjacent Kings Mountain National Military Park. In town, families stop at the Peachoid, the Gaffney Outlet Marketplace, and the Cherokee County museums. Cherokee Speedway hosts dirt-track racing on select weekends for travelers looking for evening entertainment.

The Upstate has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are usually hot and humid with temperatures often topping 90 degrees Fahrenheit, while winters tend to be mild with only occasional dips below freezing. Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel: comfortable daytime temperatures, cooler nights, and lower humidity than midsummer. April, May, September and October typically bring comfortable daytime temperatures in the low to upper 20s Celsius, with monthly rainfall in the 80 to 110 mm range. Summer trips are workable but plan for heat and afternoon thunderstorms. Rain is spread across the year rather than concentrated in a single wet season, and the prevailing Köppen classification is Cfa, with a mean annual temperature around 16 °C and annual rainfall near 1,134 mm. Winter camping is possible for cold-tolerant travelers. Many private parks stay open year-round, but expect occasional freezes, and confirm that water hookups will be available during cold snaps. Peak booking pressure hits on holiday weekends and during fall leaf season in the nearby Blue Ridge foothills.

Access is straightforward. Most campgrounds in the East Gaffney area sit within a short drive of I-85, which keeps arrivals and grocery runs simple but means some sites carry mild highway noise. Terrain is rolling Piedmont: gentle hills, pine and hardwood cover, and red-clay soils that can get soft after heavy rain. Site quality varies. Private parks like Spacious Skies Peach Haven lean toward paved or hardened pads with full hookups, pools, and kid-focused amenities. State-park sites at Kings Mountain trend more rustic, with packed-gravel pads, individual water and electric hookups, and sites that accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. Sites can pack closely together with limited privacy screening, and longer rigs often need extra leveling blocks. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the interstate and weaker in deeper wooded sections of the state park.
