Campgrounds near Iva, South Carolina
Iva sits in southern Anderson County in upstate South Carolina, within easy reach of two large Savannah River reservoirs: Lake Hartwell to the north and Lake Richard B. Russell to the south. Both lakes are ringed with public campgrounds that suit RV travelers, from full state park facilities to lakeside private and marina-based sites.
The closest developed option is Richard B Russell State Park, which sits on a 26,650-acre lake straddling the Georgia-South Carolina line and offers 28 tent, trailer, and RV campsites plus cottages on or near the water's edge. South of Iva, Calhoun Falls State Park stretches along several pine-covered points on the same Lake Russell, and its campground is one of the most coveted in the South Carolina park system, with spacious RV and tent sites and forested shoreline views.
North toward Anderson, Sadlers Creek State Park occupies 395 acres on a peninsula extending into Lake Hartwell, with 37 lakefront campsites. Big Water Marina & Campground and Tiger Cove Campground round out the nearby choices, both offering direct water access for boaters and anglers.
Things to do around Iva
Water activity drives most trips. Lake Hartwell and Lake Russell together offer tens of thousands of acres for boating, paddling, swimming, and fishing, and Russell is notably less developed thanks to a 300-foot natural buffer around the Savannah-fed reservoir. Anglers target largemouth, spotted, and striped bass along with bream, catfish, and crappie.
On land, Richard B. Russell State Park offers 6 miles of trails for hiking and biking, a 27-basket disc golf course, and the 18-hole Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course. Calhoun Falls adds a tennis court, playground, seasonal swimming beach, fishing pier, and a marina with 36 boat slips, most with water, electricity, and pump-out access. Clemson and downtown Anderson are both within a short drive for meals, groceries, and game-day trips.

Camping around Iva runs year-round at the major parks. Richard B. Russell State Park is open year-round, and the South Carolina state parks on Hartwell and Russell keep their campgrounds open through all four seasons, though swimming beaches and some day-use amenities operate seasonally.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel, with mild days and cool nights. Summer is peak season: hot, humid, and busy, with weekends filling well in advance and every lakefront site in demand. The Calhoun Falls swimming area opens for the summer season, and lake levels are generally at their highest for boating and paddling in late spring and early summer.
Winter camping is quieter, but expect cold, wet stretches and short daylight. Wind can be a factor at lakefront sites, especially in cooler months, so choose a wooded or interior site if a front is forecast. Fall brings changing hardwoods around the shoreline and steady bass fishing before water temperatures drop.
How to book campgrounds near Iva
The two South Carolina state parks in this area, Sadlers Creek and Calhoun Falls, take advance reservations through the South Carolina State Parks reservation system, online or by phone, up to 12 months in advance. Richard B. Russell State Park, across the line in Georgia, accepts reservations up to 14 months in advance through ReserveAmerica. Some Calhoun Falls and Sadlers Creek stays carry a two-night minimum, and same-day availability can sometimes be checked by phone. Corps of Engineers campgrounds elsewhere on Lake Hartwell use Recreation.gov. Private options like Big Water Marina & Campground and Tiger Cove Campground take direct bookings; call ahead for large rigs, as site lengths vary.
What to expect on site
Expect gravel or paved pads with water and 30-amp electric at the state parks, and central dump stations rather than full sewer hookups. Calhoun Falls has 86 water and electric sites plus 14 tent sites with central water, along with modern restrooms, hot showers, and a dump station. Sadlers Creek has 52 packed-gravel sites with individual water and electric hookups, plus tent-only sites and a central dump station.
Rig-length limits vary by loop. Some Sadlers Creek sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, and Richard B. Russell sites accommodate rigs up to 35 feet. Cell service is spotty in the shoreline coves, and Wi-Fi at Calhoun Falls is available at the park office and day-use beach area but not in the campgrounds. Bring bug repellent, a leash for pets, and firewood or plan to buy it on site.
