Campgrounds and RV parks near Jackson, SC

Outdoor time centers on the Savannah River and the surrounding pine and hardwood forest. Jackson Landing has a boat ramp and river access, with the Savannah holding largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, bream, and redbreast. Anglers and paddlers also head to Aiken State Park, where four artesian-spring-fed ponds and a 1.7-mile canoe and kayak trail on the South Fork of the Edisto River anchor the day-use options. The park's 3-mile Jungle Trail loop adds a good stretch-your-legs hike. The Savannah River Site periodically offers public tours arranged through its visitor program, though availability and registration requirements change, so travelers should check the current schedule before planning a visit. Downtown Aiken adds horse-country attractions, Hitchcock Woods, and small local museums for a rainy-day option.

The Jackson area is a three-season RV destination that also stays open in winter. Spring and fall bring the most comfortable weather and the strongest demand at both private RV parks and Aiken State Park, with mild days and cool nights making campfires enjoyable. Reservations at Aiken State Park can fill quickly in these shoulder seasons, especially on weekends, since the campground only holds around 25 sites. Summers are hot and humid, with afternoon highs frequently in the low 90s Fahrenheit and pop-up thunderstorms common. Sites with shade are worth requesting, and hookups with 50-amp service matter for running air conditioning through the afternoon. Biting insects are active from late spring into early fall along the river bottoms. Winters are short and generally mild, with overnight lows that occasionally dip below freezing but rarely stay there. Most private RV parks around Jackson and Aiken operate year-round, which suits snowbirds routing between Florida and points north. Verify hours at the state park before arrival, since some facilities run reduced services in the off-season.

Private RV parks in the Jackson and Aiken area typically offer level gravel sites with 30 and 50-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups. Spacing between sites can be tight, and shade varies widely, so travelers with larger rigs should confirm site dimensions and pull-through availability at booking. Wi-Fi is common but not always reliable for streaming. Aiken State Park has a compact campground of roughly 25 sites, mixing standard electric-and-water sites with a small number of full-hookup sites on packed sand pads, plus a primitive group area. All hookup sites offer 20, 30, and 50-amp service. Some sites can accommodate RVs up to about 35 feet, and cell service is spotty across most carriers. The surrounding landscape is flat to gently rolling sandhill country with longleaf pine, bottomland hardwoods, and river swamp, so expect mosquitoes near water and warm, humid evenings from May through September.
