Campgrounds and RV parks near Landrum, SC

Water recreation drives most summer trip planning. The lower Green River offers Class I and II floating suitable for family tubing, with commercial livery access at Wilderness Cove Campground and Silver Creek Campground and Whitewater Outfitters. Advanced paddlers target the Class IV and V rapids of the Narrows section upriver. On dry land, the region has heavy hiking density. Nearby options include Pearson's Falls, the trails at Chimney Rock State Park, and longer routes in the Green River Game Lands, a state-owned tract of roughly 14,000 acres in Henderson and Polk counties. Tryon International Equestrian Center, a short drive north, runs a full schedule of shows and is open to spectators. Orchard Lake Campground keeps children busy on site with paddle boats, kayaks, a swimming pond, zip line, and mini golf, which reduces driving time on multi-day trips.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of the Carolinas. Daytime highs are mild, humidity is manageable, and the foothills see reliable fall color from mid-October into early November. Weekends around peak leaf season fill quickly at campgrounds near Saluda and Tryon. Summer is the busiest booking period because it lines up with river tubing. The Green River tubing season generally runs from the weekend before Memorial Day through the weekend after Labor Day, and campgrounds along Green River Cove Road fill weeks out on holiday weekends. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, so morning launches are the norm. Winters are cool rather than harsh, with highs typically in the 40s and 50s Fahrenheit and only occasional light snow. Some private campgrounds have a defined off-season: Orchard Lake Campground runs a regular season from April through early November and a limited RV-only winter season, while several Green River Cove properties adjust hours around tubing demand. Green River Cove Road and U.S. 176 between Saluda and Tryon have been under phased repair following Hurricane Helene, so route confirmation before arrival is advised.

Roads into the Green River Cove area are narrow, winding, and include a long sequence of switchbacks with a steep grade. Larger rigs should follow operator-recommended routing rather than dropping in directly from the Saluda exit on I-26; both Wilderness Cove Campground and Silver Creek Campground and Whitewater Outfitters direct RV traffic accordingly, and active NCDOT construction on Green River Cove Road means intermittent closures and flagged sections. Hookups vary. Silver Creek Campground and Whitewater Outfitters and Orchard Lake Campground offer full-hookup sites with 30-amp and 50-amp service, pull-thrus, and dump station access. Wilderness Cove has full-hookup RV sites but limited length capacity, so confirm rig size at booking. Cell coverage is inconsistent in the river cove and on ridge sites; campground Wi-Fi is generally the more reliable option. Bathhouses at the major properties are maintained, and camp stores stock basic supplies, ice, and firewood.
