Campgrounds and RV parks near Pendleton, SC

Lake Hartwell dominates the recreation menu. The lake's 962 miles of shoreline support boating, water sports, fishing, and designated swim beaches at Corps day-use areas, with public boat ramps within a short drive of most Pendleton-area campgrounds. Anglers target largemouth and striped bass, along with crappie and catfish; paddlers stick to the sheltered coves. On land, the Pendleton Historic District centres on the village green and Hunter's Store and hosts the Spring Jubilee each spring. Families can visit the South Carolina Botanical Garden and the Bob Campbell Geology Museum at Clemson, tour the Ashtabula and Woodburn historic houses, and take the short drive to Stumphouse Tunnel Park, an unfinished nineteenth-century railroad tunnel that stays cool through summer. Clemson football Saturdays fill the area every autumn and drive most RV bookings within a wide radius.

The Upstate climate is humid subtropical, with hot summers, cool winters, and rainfall spread through the year. Summer is peak season on Lake Hartwell, offering warm water, long daylight, and full facility service at Corps campgrounds and private parks. Expect afternoon thunderstorms and high humidity, and book early for the Fourth of July and other summer holiday weekends. Spring brings wildflowers, comfortable temperatures, and the Pendleton Spring Jubilee, and is one of the wetter stretches of the year with frequent thunderstorms. Fall is often the most comfortable window for camping, with cooler nights and lower rainfall, but every home-game Saturday during Clemson football season pushes RV occupancy to capacity for many miles around the university. Winter is mild by regional standards, with daytime highs typically in the low 50s Fahrenheit and only occasional light snow. Some Corps loops close or reduce services after November, while year-round properties near Clemson, Pendleton, and Anderson stay open.

Sites in this area range from paved, full-hookup pads at private parks like Clemson RV Park at the Grove to shaded, mixed-hardwood Corps sites closer to the water. Terrain around Lake Hartwell is gently rolling, so expect some sloped approaches and, at Corps parks, impact-pad rules that limit each site to a single wheeled unit. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Clemson, Pendleton, and Anderson, and grocery, fuel, and restaurants are within a short drive of every campground on the list. Pack for humidity and biting insects from late spring through early fall, and stow food securely: wildlife, including raccoons, moves through waterfront campsites. Quiet hours and leash rules are strictly enforced at Corps parks.
