Camping near Pickens, South Carolina
Pickens sits in the Blue Ridge foothills of upstate South Carolina, at the edge of the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway (SC-11) corridor. The town serves as a practical base for RV travelers heading to Table Rock, Lake Keowee, and the Jocassee Gorges. Pickens is the nearest town with major stores, and Greenville is about 45 minutes away.
The closest developed campground is Table Rock State Park, which offers a 69-site camping area near the park entrance and a 25-site camping area near the White Oaks picnic area. Creekside Campground at Table Rock and the White Oak loop at Table Rock State Park operate under this park. Nearby, Keowee-Toxaway State Natural Area sits on Lake Keowee and offers ten paved sites with individual water and 50-amp electrical hookups that can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet total vehicle length, though larger units will have difficulty navigating the campground road.
Private options round out the mix. Palmetto Cove Inc RV Park sits at the edge of the Blue Ridge Escarpment just off SC-11, with full-hookup sites suited to larger motorhomes. Solitude Pointe Cabins and RV Park adds a smaller-scale alternative, with about a dozen spacious, wooded RV sites, all of which offer full hookups with up to 50 amps of electric service.
Things to do around Pickens
Hiking dominates the itinerary. Table Rock State Park serves as a southern terminus for the Foothills Trail, a long-distance route linking several upstate parks. Families with shorter legs can head to Keowee-Toxaway, where the strenuous Raven Rock Trail is a 4.1 mile trail with a walking time of three hours, and the moderately strenuous Natural Bridge Nature Trail is a 1.5 mile loop with a walking time of 45 minutes.
Water access is a second draw. Keowee-Toxaway state park access provides only for canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards, guaranteeing guests a quiet and serene visit, and anglers catch bass, bream, crappie and catfish. Off-park attractions include the historic downtown of Pickens and the Hagood Mill, plus mountain drives and waterfalls along SC-11 and US-276.

Spring and fall are the sweet spots. Mild days, cool nights, and low humidity make March through May and September through November comfortable for hiking and shoulder-season RV travel. Wildflowers along the foothills peak in April and May, and fall color typically arrives at higher elevations in mid to late October.
Summer is the busy season. Weekends at Table Rock fill quickly, and reservations are essential for June through August and any holiday weekend. Afternoon thunderstorms are common through the warm months, so campers should plan for wet gear and shaded pads.
Winter camping at Table Rock and Keowee-Toxaway remains possible year-round, offering expanded mountain views once the leaves drop. Nights are cold and occasional snow is possible. Private parks in the area may reduce hours or close seasonally in late fall and winter, so travelers should confirm dates directly with the operator before planning a shoulder-season stay.

This was an incredible camping experience! It was the ideal way to camp, as we had always used tents before. It was fantastic that the RV was delivered and ready to use! There was ample space for my family to enjoy the room without feeling cramped. A big storm rolled in, and it was a great place to come together and use the appliances inside to cook dinner and watch a movie as a family. I highly recommend this rental for anyone seeking a great camping stay, and for anyone who has always wanted to try out the RV experience!

How to book a site near Pickens
State park sites at Table Rock and Keowee-Toxaway are booked through the South Carolina State Parks reservation system. Reservations at state parks may be made up to 13 months in advance, and reservations requested less than one day in advance of check-in must be made directly through the park.
Stay rules matter for trip planning. Maximum length of stay is 14 nights, minimum length of stay is 2 nights, and some parks have longer minimum stay requirements during peak season and holidays. Big-rig drivers should size up carefully: some sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, and access roads at Keowee-Toxaway can be tight for the longest rigs.
For Palmetto Cove Inc RV Park and Solitude Pointe Cabins and RV Park, book directly with the campground by phone or website.
What to expect on-site
Facilities at the state parks are functional and clean. Each site has individual water and electrical hookups, and picnic table. Some sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. Both campgrounds are convenient to restrooms with hot showers. Table Rock also has hot showers, modern restrooms, laundry facilities, a dump station, and WiFi. Cell service varies by loop, and tree cover is heavy at many sites.
At Keowee-Toxaway, the small RV loop is quiet and wooded, with a dump station for campers and a canoe and kayak launch on Lake Keowee. Private parks lean into full hookups and paved pads. Expect quiet nights, dark skies, and cool mountain air even in summer. Bring layers and a rain plan, as afternoon thunderstorms are common June through August.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Pickens, SC
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Pickens, SC?
An RV rental in Pickens is one of the most affordable ways to enjoy the Blue Ridge foothills. On RVezy, you can typically expect travel trailers from around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes from $250 to $400 per night. Prices peak in the fall when leaf-peepers fill Table Rock State Park and during Clemson football weekends. For a cheap RV rental Pickens travelers love, book midweek stays in late winter or early spring and filter listings by Instant Book to lock in the best value. Pro tip: many Pickens hosts bundle camp chairs, generators, and kitchen kits, so compare total value, not just nightly rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pickens%2C%20South%20CarolinaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Pickens, SC?
Good news for first-timers: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Pickens for nearly every rig on RVezy. South Carolina only requires a Class E non-commercial license for motorhomes with a Gross Vehicle Weight over 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels on the platform fall well under that limit. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified during booking so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Pair an International Driving Permit with your home license before you fly in and you are cleared to explore the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsAm I covered if something happens during my Pickens RV trip?
Peace of mind comes built in. Every RV rental in Pickens booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered for most damage to the vehicle and have a real person to call if a tire goes flat on Highway 11 or you need a tow off the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Byway. At checkout, you choose the protection level that fits your trip, and coverage activates when your trip begins. Pro tip: review the protection options side-by-side at booking, since the upgrade is often just a few dollars per night and provides meaningful financial protection during your weekend at Table Rock.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Pickens RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy that applies to every reservation (hosts do not set this themselves), and there is a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. The exact refund depends on how far in advance you cancel, which matters in the upstate when remnants of tropical storms occasionally swing through in late summer. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credits. Pro tip: book early for Clemson home football weekends and the Pickens Azalea Festival in April when the best rigs go fast, knowing you have flexibility if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Pickens RV trip?
Yes, and the upstate is paradise for pups. Plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Pickens options exist on RVezy: toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you will see rigs whose hosts welcome dogs (some ask a small pet fee or deposit). Once you are here, Table Rock State Park allows leashed dogs in outdoor areas and welcomes them in select pet-friendly cabins, while the Doodle Trail, an 8.5-mile paved rail-trail between Pickens and Easley, is a local favorite for morning walks. Devils Fork State Park on Lake Jocassee is another tail-wagger with leashed-pet access to most outdoor spaces. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet rules and any cleaning fee so check-in is smooth.
southcarolinaparks.com/table-rockCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Pickens?
Yes, RV delivery Pickens is one of the easiest ways for first-timers to start a trip. Many RVezy hosts will tow the trailer or drive the motorhome directly to your campsite at Table Rock State Park, Devils Fork State Park, Keowee-Toxaway State Park, or a private rental cabin, then level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees usually run by the mile from the host's home base, and some hosts include free delivery within a set radius. This is ideal if you are flying into Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) and want to skip driving a big rig from day one. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on the search page and message the host with your campsite number to get an exact quote.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pickens%2C%20South%20CarolinaHow far can I drive on a Pickens RV rental, and is unlimited mileage available?

Many Pickens hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and several offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage option, perfect for longer loops through the Blue Ridge. From Pickens, you are about 25 miles to downtown Greenville, 30 miles to Clemson, 70 miles to Asheville, NC, 100 miles to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and roughly 140 miles to Atlanta. An RV road trip from Pickens along the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway (SC-11) is one of the prettiest drives in the Southeast. Pro tip: ask hosts about their per-mile overage rate up front so you can budget accurately, or filter for unlimited-mileage listings.
scdot.org/travel/scenic-byways.aspxWhere are the best campgrounds near Pickens, SC?
You are spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Pickens start with Table Rock State Park, which has around 90 RV-friendly sites with water and electric hookups at the base of Table Rock Mountain. Devils Fork State Park on the clear waters of Lake Jocassee offers lakeside hookup sites and is the only public access point to the lake. Keowee-Toxaway State Park sits about 13 miles away with quiet lake views. Closer to town, Mile Creek County Park on Lake Keowee has popular peninsula and lakeside sites. Pro tip: South Carolina state park sites can be booked up to 13 months out, so reserve early for fall weekends.
southcarolinaparks.com/table-rock/campingWhen is the best time for RV camping in Pickens, SC?
You can RV here almost year-round. Spring (March to May) brings dogwoods, mountain laurel, and daytime highs in the 65-78°F range, ideal for hiking Table Rock Trail. Fall (late September through early November) is the showstopper, with brilliant Blue Ridge foliage along SC-11, crisp 55-72°F days, and prime Clemson football energy. Summers run hot and humid (mid-80s to low 90s°F), but lake days at Jocassee and Keowee make it worth it. Winters are mild (40s-50s°F highs, occasional frost), and most local private campgrounds stay open year-round. Pro tip: mid-to-late October typically hits peak leaf color in Pickens County, so book your motorhome rental Pickens trip months in advance for those dates.
weather.gov/gsp/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be set up for success in Pickens?
You are in great hands, even if it is your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering how to operate the awning, slide-outs, propane, water pump, generator, and dump valves, plus tips for backing into a Table Rock State Park site. You can message your host anytime during the trip, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with your protection plan. Pickens is an ideal first-timer base: the roads are wide, traffic is light, and you are only about 30 minutes from Greenville if you need supplies. Pro tip: pick a smaller Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet for your first rent an RV in Pickens experience, since they are easier to maneuver on mountain roads.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Pickens on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 11, a dead battery at Devils Fork, or a tow off a mountain pull-off is one phone call away. Your host is also just a message away and is often the fastest source for quirks specific to that rig. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Pickens is well-served, with Greenville-area service centers about 30 minutes away and tire and mechanic shops right in Pickens off US-178. Pro tip: snap photos of your tires, dash, and hookups at pickup so any issue is easy to document.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat are popular road trip routes from Pickens, SC?
You are at the doorstep of some of the Southeast's best drives. A classic RV road trip from Pickens loops west along the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway (SC-11) to Lake Jocassee and the Chattooga River (about 45 miles). Head north and you are in DuPont State Forest near Brevard, NC within about 60 miles, or Asheville's Blue Ridge Parkway in roughly 75 miles. Push about 95 miles further and you reach Cherokee, NC and the gateway to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. RVezy allows travel across state lines, so North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee are all fair game; just confirm out-of-state travel with your host. Travel into Mexico is not permitted. Pro tip: build in an overnight at Mile Creek County Park on Lake Keowee for the prettiest sunset of the trip.
scdot.org/travel/scenic-byways.aspxWhat should I budget for fuel on a Pickens RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier costs to plan for here. South Carolina has some of the lowest gas prices in the Southeast, often well below the national average. Expect roughly 8-10 MPG for a Class A motorhome, 10-14 MPG for a Class C, and 16-22 MPG for a Class B campervan or a truck towing a small travel trailer. A 250-mile weekend loop through Table Rock, Lake Jocassee, and Greenville will typically cost $80 to $130 in fuel depending on your rig and current pump prices. Pro tip: fill up in Pickens or Easley before heading into the mountains; gas stations thin out fast past SC-11.
gasprices.aaa.com/?state=SCHow far in advance should I book a campground near Pickens?
The earlier the better, especially for the headliners. South Carolina State Parks open reservations up to 13 months in advance through the official reservation system, and Table Rock and Devils Fork both fill quickly for spring wildflower season, summer holiday weekends, and peak fall foliage in mid-to-late October. For a typical summer weekend, book 3 to 6 months out; for Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, or fall color weekends, aim for 9 to 13 months. Private parks near Pickens are usually bookable closer to your dates. Pro tip: if Table Rock is booked, try the nearby Keowee-Toxaway State Park, which often has more last-minute availability.
southcarolinaparks.com/table-rock/campingWhat are driving conditions like around Pickens for an RV?
Pickens is genuinely RV-friendly. The main routes (US-178, SC-8, and SC-11) are well-paved, two-lane scenic roads with gentle grades and wide shoulders, great for new motorhome drivers. You will encounter some curvy mountain stretches as you climb toward Table Rock, Caesars Head, and Sassafras Mountain (the highest point in SC at 3,553 feet), so plan extra time and downshift on descents. Watch for low-hanging branches on smaller country lanes. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can be intense, so check the forecast before heading up. Pro tip: use caution on US-178 north toward Rocky Bottom in icy weather (December through February), and use SC-11 as your scenic backbone, since it is gentler, beautiful, and built for sightseeing.
scdot.org/travel/scenic-byways.aspxWhat hookups and amenities can I expect at Pickens campgrounds?
You will find solid infrastructure throughout the area. Table Rock State Park sites have water and electric hookups (no sewer at the site, but a shared dump station and potable water fill are on-site), hot showers, flush toilets, laundry, and a camp store. Devils Fork State Park offers similar water and electric plus a dump station and lake access. For full hookups (water, electric, and sewer at your site), look at private parks in and around Pickens. Most campgrounds use standard 30-amp service, with 50-amp available at select sites. Pro tip: confirm amperage with your RVezy host so you bring the right adapter; a 50-to-30 dogbone adapter is cheap insurance.
southcarolinaparks.com/table-rock/campingWhat features and equipment come with a typical Pickens RV rental?
You will be impressed by how turnkey these rigs are. Most RVs on RVezy in the Pickens area come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, additional sleeping for 4 to 8 people, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a wet or dry bath with toilet and shower, air conditioning, heat, and seatbelted seating for travel. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often include a TV, an onboard generator, and an outdoor awning, perfect for shaded afternoons by Lake Jocassee. Many hosts include linens, kitchen kits, camp chairs, and outdoor mats. Pro tip: message the host to confirm generator hours and whether bedding is included, so you can pack light for your campervan rental Pickens trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pickens%2C%20South%20CarolinaWhat add-ons and pickup options are available in Pickens?
You can really customize the trip. Popular add-ons from Pickens hosts include generators, bedding and linen kits, kitchen and dish packages, outdoor camp setups with chairs and a grill, bike racks, and even portable solar panels. Pickup logistics are flexible: meet at the host's home in or near Pickens, Easley, or Liberty, or pay for delivery to your campground or Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP). Mileage policies vary, with 100 to 150 free miles per night being typical and unlimited-mileage options available on some listings. Pro tip: bundle add-ons when you book, since many hosts offer better value when you combine linen and kitchen kits, saving you a grocery run for cookware.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Pickens%2C%20South%20CarolinaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
It is straightforward and secure. When you book your RV camping Pickens trip, you pay through RVezy's protected checkout (credit card or debit), so no cash changes hands with the host. A refundable security deposit is authorized on your card a few days before the trip starts; amounts typically range from $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig's value. As long as you return the RV in the condition you got it, with the agreed fuel and tank levels, the deposit is released back to you after check-in is complete. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff (exterior, tires, dash, interior, tanks) so any deposit questions are resolved fast: this is the single best habit for a smooth Pickens RV rental.
