Camping near Piedmont, South Carolina
Piedmont sits along the Saluda River between Greenville and Anderson in the northwestern corner of South Carolina. The town works well as an RV base for exploring the upstate: interstates 85 and 385 are minutes away, downtown Greenville is a short drive north, and the Blue Ridge foothills climb quickly to the northwest. RV travelers generally choose between compact private parks close to town and a nearby state park with hookups.
Private options within easy reach include Ivy Acres RV Park, Eden Farm RV Park, and Springwood RV Park, all offering full-hookup sites geared to travelers passing through or staying longer term. Families and youth groups can also look to Girl Scouts of South Carolina–Mountains to Midlands for organized camp programming.
For a public-lands stay, Paris Mountain State Park sits about five miles north of Greenville and covers roughly 1,540 acres with hiking, biking, swimming, and picnicking. It is the closest state-park campground to Piedmont and a common anchor for weekend trips.
Things to do around Piedmont
Outdoor activity centers on Paris Mountain State Park. The park contains about 17 miles of hiking and biking trails near downtown Greenville and four lakes: Lake Placid, Mountain Lake, Buckhorn Lake, and North Lake. Lake Placid offers swimming and fishing, and canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats are seasonally available for rental, though private boats are not permitted.
In Greenville itself, families can walk the Swamp Rabbit Trail, visit Falls Park on the Reedy, and reach the Blue Ridge Escarpment within an hour for waterfall hikes at Caesars Head and Table Rock. Anglers use the Saluda River near Piedmont for smallmouth bass and catfish. Cyclists staying at Ivy Acres RV Park or Springwood RV Park can reach both the state park and the Swamp Rabbit corridor without long drives.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the upstate. From late March through May, daytime highs are comfortable, dogwoods and mountain laurel bloom, and trails at Paris Mountain State Park are in prime shape. October and early November bring cooler nights and hardwood color across the foothills, and are among the busiest weekends at nearby state-park campgrounds.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. It is also peak time for swimming and fishing at the park lakes, so families gravitate to sites with tree cover and lake access. Book well ahead for Friday and Saturday arrivals from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Winter is the quietest season. Freezing nights are possible, but daytime temperatures usually thaw and private RV parks around Piedmont operate year-round. Hikers, cyclists, picnickers, and groups using Camp Buckhorn keep Paris Mountain busy through the cooler months, though weekday campsites are easy to secure.

Great RV! Super clean. Prompt delivery and pick up! Jonathan is a great host!

This was an incredible camping experience! It was the ideal way to camp, as we had always used tents before. It was fantastic that the RV was delivered and ready to use! There was ample space for my family to enjoy the room without feeling cramped. A big storm rolled in, and it was a great place to come together and use the appliances inside to cook dinner and watch a movie as a family. I highly recommend this rental for anyone seeking a great camping stay, and for anyone who has always wanted to try out the RV experience!

Everything was Awesome, enjoyed working with The love birds. I would recommend anyone to use them. This was my first rv rental. Everything was explained to me how to work it. If I had any questions they were there to walk me through it.
Sharyl E. - Aug 2024
Only problem we had was some little black ants - but I think that was as much to do with the rain as anything. Great communication and responsiveness. Would rent from them again if back in the area.

How to book
Private parks near Piedmont, including Ivy Acres RV Park, Eden Farm RV Park, and Springwood RV Park, are booked directly with each operator by phone or website. Many hold monthly and long-term sites, so weekly and nightly availability is tighter than at typical destination campgrounds. Call ahead for big-rig clearance and pull-through requests.
Paris Mountain State Park uses the South Carolina State Parks reservation system. Reservations may be made up to 13 months in advance, and requests less than one day before check-in must be made directly through the park. Camping reservations require a minimum of two nights. Group stays at Girl Scouts of South Carolina–Mountains to Midlands are arranged through the council office rather than a public booking portal.
What to expect on site
At Paris Mountain State Park, each site has individual water and electrical hookups, some sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet and others up to 35 feet, and the campground is convenient to restroom facilities with hot showers. There are no sewer hookups at individual sites, but a dump station is available on the way out. Mountain bikes are not allowed in the park or on trails on Saturdays, which is worth noting for cycling families.
Private parks near Piedmont typically offer full hookups, level gravel or paved pads, laundry, and Wi-Fi of varying quality. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the area. All firewood brought into South Carolina State Parks must be sourced within the state and from less than 50 miles away, so buy locally rather than hauling wood from home.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Piedmont, SC
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Piedmont, SC?
RV rental in Piedmont is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Upstate. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes or fifth wheels run $250 to $400 nightly. To save, aim for weekday bookings, target shoulder seasons in March, April, or October, and book at least three to four nights since many hosts offer weekly discounts. Pro tip: bundle a delivered, set-up travel trailer at Lake Hartwell or Paris Mountain State Park to skip towing fees and fuel, often making the total cheaper than a motorhome road trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Piedmont,%20South%20CarolinaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Piedmont, South Carolina?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Piedmont. South Carolina does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for any motorhome or trailer you'll find on RVezy, including big Class A coaches and fifth wheels. You'll just need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking, so there's no paperwork to bring to pickup. Visiting from overseas? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto club before you fly, pair it with your home license, and you're cleared to roll out toward Greenville, Clemson, or the Blue Ridge.
scdmvonline.com/Driver-Services/Drivers-LicenseIs the RV protected if something happens during my Piedmont trip?
Yes, every RV rental in Piedmont booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can drive toward Lake Hartwell or the Blue Ridge Parkway with real peace of mind. During checkout you choose the protection tier that fits your comfort level, and each plan covers physical damage to the RV up to defined limits along with liability coverage. This is purpose-built for peer-to-peer RV rentals, not traditional auto insurance, and it removes a huge amount of stress for first-time renters. Pro tip: review and select your protection tier before you click Book so you know exactly what's covered before you pull out of the host's driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Piedmont RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy on every reservation (not the host), and the policy includes a grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. If plans change, RVezy's support team works with you on refund or credit options based on how far out you are from your start date, and if a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits. Because the policy is managed by RVezy and applies consistently across listings, you'll get the same fair process whether you booked a campervan in Greenville or a Class C near Anderson. Pro tip: book early to grab the best Upstate inventory, knowing you have a clear cancellation policy to fall back on.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Piedmont RV rental?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Piedmont is easy to find on RVezy. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see listings from hosts who welcome four-legged co-pilots, often with a small cleaning fee. Once you're rolling, the Upstate is a dog lover's paradise: Paris Mountain State Park in Greenville allows leashed pets on all trails, Lake Hartwell State Park has pet-friendly campsites and shoreline access, and Conestee Nature Preserve has miles of dog-friendly trails and boardwalks. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm dog size and breed, and ask if they leave a bowl, towel, or tie-out, many Piedmont hosts include thoughtful pet extras.
southcarolinaparks.com/paris-mountainCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or home in Piedmont?
Yes, RV delivery in Piedmont is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV. Use the 'Delivery' filter and you'll find local hosts who will tow a travel trailer or fifth wheel straight to nearby campgrounds like Springwood RV Park in Greenville, Lake Hartwell State Park, or Paris Mountain State Park, then level it, hook up water, sewer, and 30/50-amp power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees are usually based on round-trip mileage from the host's location. Pro tip: ask for delivery to a full-hookup site so all you have to do is unpack the cooler and start the campfire.
southcarolinaparks.com/paris-mountain/campingHow does mileage work and how far can I drive on a Piedmont RV trip?
Mileage is set by each host, and many Piedmont listings include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with additional miles available for a small per-mile fee. Some listings offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, especially for stationary or short-radius trips. From Piedmont you have incredible range: Greenville is about 12 miles north, Clemson and Lake Hartwell sit roughly 25 to 30 miles west, Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway are around 75 miles north, Charleston is about 215 miles southeast, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park is roughly 130 miles away. Pro tip: if you're parking the RV at one campground the whole trip, ask the host about a stationary rate, it can drop your mileage cost to nearly zero.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Piedmont,%20South%20CarolinaWhere are the best campgrounds near Piedmont, SC?
You're surrounded by some of the best campgrounds in the Upstate. Paris Mountain State Park (about 20 minutes north in Greenville) offers wooded electric and water sites and a swimming lake. Lake Hartwell State Park (about 35 minutes west) has waterfront full-hookup sites and a boat ramp. Springwood RV Park in Greenville is a clean, easy in-and-out park great for first-timers. Anderson/Lake Hartwell KOA Holiday delivers full hookups, a pool, and family activities about 25 minutes south. Devils Fork State Park on Lake Jocassee, around an hour north, is a bucket-list spot with crystal-clear water. Pro tip: state park sites book fast in spring and fall, reserve as early as the system allows for the best lakefront spots.
southcarolinaparks.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Piedmont?
Piedmont, SC sits in a humid subtropical climate, which means the sweet spot for RV camping is long: mid-March through late May and again from mid-September through early November, when daytime highs hover in the comfortable 65 to 80°F range and humidity drops. Summers (June to August) are hot and humid with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, but lake-based trips to Hartwell or Jocassee are fantastic if your RV has strong AC. Winters are mild (40 to 55°F daytime), so off-season RV rental in South Carolina is very doable and cheaper. Pro tip: October is magic here, fall color peaks in the nearby Blue Ridge while Upstate temps stay shorts-friendly.
weather.gov/gsp/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll be just fine, and most Piedmont hosts specialize in helping first-time renters feel confident. Every RVezy booking includes a full walkthrough at pickup where your host shows you how to operate the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, leveling, and hookups, and many even take you for a short practice drive. If towing makes you nervous, choose a delivered travel trailer so you never touch a hitch. For driving, stick to bigger roads like I-85 and US-25 around Greenville, and avoid downtown Greenville's narrow Main Street side roads. Pro tip: for your first family RV trip from Piedmont, book a Class C motorhome, it drives more like a big van than a bus, and you can park it anywhere a U-Haul fits.
scdmvonline.com/Driver-ServicesWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my Piedmont trip?
You're covered. 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RV rental on RVezy, so help is one phone call away whether you're parked at Lake Hartwell or climbing US-276 toward Caesars Head. Roadside handles the common stuff: flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. Your host is also typically just a text message away and knows their RV inside and out, so small questions usually get answered in minutes. Pro tip: save the RVezy roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate so you have it handy if you ever need to call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Piedmont RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome, and Piedmont is a fantastic launchpad for a multi-state RV road trip. Most hosts allow trips throughout the southeastern US: the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina (about 75 miles), Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee (about 130 miles), Savannah, GA (about 230 miles), or Florida beaches farther south. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage do not extend there. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and listing, so confirm in writing with your host before booking if that's on your itinerary. Pro tip: share your route with the host in the booking message and ask for their favorite overnight stops, many Upstate hosts are seasoned road-trippers themselves.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect and how should I budget?
For a realistic Piedmont fuel budget, plan on roughly 7 to 10 MPG for a Class A motorhome, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 16 to 20 MPG for a Class B campervan, and around 12 to 16 MPG for your tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. South Carolina has some of the lowest gas prices in the country (often $0.30 to $0.50 below the national average), and you'll find inexpensive diesel and gas along I-85 at Piedmont, Anderson, and Greenville exits. For a 4-night trip running 300 miles round-trip in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the QuikTrip or Sam's Club in Greenville before heading into North Carolina, where prices jump noticeably.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds around Piedmont?
For South Carolina State Parks like Paris Mountain, Lake Hartwell, Devils Fork, and Table Rock, reservations open 13 months in advance through the official ReserveAmerica-powered booking system at southcarolinaparks.com, and prime weekends (spring wildflowers, summer holidays, October leaf-peeping) can sell out within hours of opening. Private parks like Anderson/Lake Hartwell KOA and Springwood RV Park usually have more flexibility, often bookable 2 to 4 weeks out. For a smooth Piedmont RV trip, lock in your campground first, then book the RV. Pro tip: if your dream state park site is taken, set a cancellation alert and check the booking site early mornings, midweek cancellations open up daily.
southcarolinaparks.com/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around Piedmont?
Driving an RV around Piedmont is refreshingly easy compared to most metros. I-85 runs right past town with wide lanes and gentle grades, US-25 and SC-153 give you straightforward access to Greenville and Easley, and there's almost no congestion outside Greenville rush hour (7 to 9 AM and 4 to 6 PM near downtown and Woodruff Road). Heading north into the Blue Ridge on US-276 toward Caesars Head, you'll encounter steeper grades and tight switchbacks, so use lower gears and take it slow. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can pop up fast, just pull off at the next exit and wait 20 minutes. Pro tip: avoid downtown Greenville's Main Street and the Augusta Road shopping district in a big rig, stick to Pleasantburg Drive (US-291) as your in-town RV route.
511sc.org/What amenities do campgrounds near Piedmont typically offer?
Most campgrounds near Piedmont are well-equipped for a stress-free stay. South Carolina State Parks like Paris Mountain and Lake Hartwell offer 20/30/50-amp electric and water hookups, central dump stations, hot showers, and potable water fill stations. Private parks like Anderson/Lake Hartwell KOA and Springwood RV Park add full sewer hookups at every site, Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and propane refills on-site. For dumping and water fills between trips, the Pilot Travel Center off I-85 Exit 35 in Piedmont has an RV dump and freshwater fill. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a 50-to-30-amp dogbone adapter, and a sewer hose support, those three items handle 99% of what you'll encounter at Upstate SC campgrounds.
southcarolinaparks.com/lake-hartwell/campingWhat's typically included inside a Piedmont RV rental?
You'll be impressed at how turnkey most Piedmont RV rentals are. Expect real beds (queen master plus convertible dinette/sofa in most Class Cs and trailers), a full kitchen with fridge/freezer, stove, microwave, sink and cookware, a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, climate-controlled AC and furnace, and seatbelts for all listed sleep counts in motorhomes. Many motorhome rental Piedmont listings also include a generator, an outdoor awning with LED lights, a TV, and Bluetooth stereo, and a growing number of hosts toss in Wi-Fi hotspots and starter kits with paper towels, dish soap, and coffee. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities section and message the host to confirm linens and kitchenware are included, many Upstate hosts provide them free, saving you a packing headache.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rv-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Piedmont offer some genuinely useful add-ons that can transform your trip: delivery and setup, generator hours, propane refills, camping chairs and tables, bike racks, kayak/SUP rentals, linen and kitchen packages, and even pre-stocked grocery bundles. Pickup is usually self-serve at the host's home in or near Piedmont, Greenville, or Anderson, with a 30 to 45 minute walkthrough included. Mileage policies vary by host (typically 100 to 150 free miles per night for motorhomes, often unlimited for trailers being towed by you), and generator use beyond included hours is usually $3 to $5 per hour. Pro tip: bundle delivery, a stocked kitchen, and a generator allowance up front, it's almost always cheaper than adding them mid-trip and removes every last hassle.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/rv-trailer-towing-guidesHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Piedmont through RVezy, your credit or debit card is charged directly through the platform, with no cash or e-transfers to the host. A refundable security deposit is held by RVezy before your trip starts (the amount is shown on the listing), and it is released back to your card after the trip as long as the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid deposit issues, do a quick walk-around photo session at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the fuel and propane levels you received, and empty the tanks at a dump station if your host requests it. Pro tip: ask your host upfront whether tank dumping is included, many Upstate hosts do it for free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a great first road trip itinerary from Piedmont?
For a perfect first RV road trip from Piedmont, try this 4-night Upstate-to-Blue-Ridge loop. Night 1: Paris Mountain State Park (about 20 minutes north) for a shakedown night close to home. Nights 2 to 3: Lake Hartwell State Park (about 35 minutes west) for swimming, fishing, and lakefront sunsets. Night 4: Lake Jocassee at Devils Fork State Park (about 60 miles north), one of the clearest lakes in the eastern US. If you have an extra day, push to Pisgah National Forest near Brevard, NC (about 90 minutes) for waterfalls and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Pro tip: stop in downtown Greenville on your way back for dinner near Falls Park on the Reedy, where larger rigs can use peripheral lots rather than narrow downtown streets.
