Campgrounds near Saluda, South Carolina
Saluda sits in the western Midlands of South Carolina, roughly between Columbia and Greenville and within an easy drive of two major reservoir systems: Lake Greenwood to the north and Lake Murray to the east. That geography defines the RV-camping options in the area. Most nearby campgrounds are lakefront, and the two closest state parks anchor the region.
Lake Greenwood State Park is the largest public campground in the area, with 125 paved sites for RVs and tents on the shore of the reservoir. About 40 minutes east toward Prosperity, Dreher Island State Park spreads across three islands on Lake Murray and offers 97 paved sites plus 15 tent-only sites, along with lakeside villas. Both are managed by South Carolina State Parks and share the same reservation system.
Private options round out the mix. Moon Landing RV Park and Marina and Lake Greenwood Motorcoach Resort sit near the Lake Greenwood shoreline, while Aiken RV Park serves travelers heading toward the Aiken and Augusta area to the south.
Things to do around Saluda
Water recreation drives most trips. Lake Greenwood covers roughly 11,400 acres and is known for largemouth bass, striped bass, crappie, bream, and catfish, with public boat ramps at Lake Greenwood State Park. Lake Murray, accessed through Dreher Island State Park, has more than 12 miles of shoreline within the park alone and hosts national bass tournaments.
On land, Lake Greenwood State Park preserves original Civilian Conservation Corps structures and offers lakeside trails, picnic shelters, and a playground. Dreher Island has wooded nature trails, birding for bald eagles and ospreys, and multiple fishing piers.
Off-park day trips include the Ninety Six National Historic Site about 15 minutes from Lake Greenwood, downtown Columbia about 30 miles east of Dreher Island, and the horse country and antique shops of Aiken to the south.

Peak camping season at the area's lakefront parks runs roughly April through October, with the busiest weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. Summer days are hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common and lake water warm enough for swimming from late May into September. Lake Greenwood enforces a 14-night maximum stay between April 1 and August 31, followed by a 7-night out period before returning.
Spring brings wildflowers, cooler nights, and strong bass fishing, but severe thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes are also possible across the Midlands, so keep a weather radio handy. Fall is often the most comfortable window, with lower humidity, thinner crowds after Labor Day, and generally stable weather through October.
Winter camping is available year-round at both state parks and most private resorts in the area. Nights are cold but hard freezes are typically brief, and lakeside sites are usually easy to book on short notice.

How to book campsites near Saluda
Lake Greenwood State Park and Dreher Island State Park both reserve through the South Carolina State Parks system. Sites can be booked up to 13 months in advance online or by phone, and a two-night minimum applies. Reservations requested less than one day before check-in must be made by calling the park directly.
Lakefront sites at both parks book earliest, often filling on the day the 13-month window opens for holiday weekends. If a date is showing full, the reservation site allows viewing every available night for a specific site, which helps when shifting dates by a day or two.
Private campgrounds such as Moon Landing RV Park and Marina, Lake Greenwood Motorcoach Resort, and Aiken RV Park take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and generally have more flexibility on shorter stays.
What to expect on site
Both state parks offer paved pads with water and 50-amp electric hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, hot showers, and dump stations. Lake Greenwood accommodates rigs up to about 40 feet on many sites; Dreher Island fits some up to 45 feet, with others capped near 30 feet. Neither park provides sewer hookups at individual sites, and Wi-Fi does not extend to the campground loops.
Sites cluster fairly close together, especially on the lakefront loops, and tent pads are often gravel or hard-packed rather than grass. Bathhouses are distributed through the loops and generally well maintained.
South Carolina State Parks require firewood to be sourced within the state and from less than 50 miles away to limit invasive pests. Leashed pets are allowed in most outdoor areas, and both parks charge a day-use admission fee separate from campsite rates.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Saluda, SC?
RV rental in Saluda is one of the more affordable ways to experience Lake Murray Country, with most listings on RVezy ranging from about $95 to $200 per night for travel trailers and $175 to $325 for Class C motorhomes. Pricing depends on the RV size, age, and season, with spring weekends (March and April) and Lake Murray summer weekends commanding the highest rates. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Saluda%2C%20South%20CarolinaWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Saluda?
Good news: for nearly every RV on RVezy, your regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Saluda. South Carolina only requires a Class E or Class F non-commercial license if the motorhome's Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) exceeds 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of rentals on the platform (campervans, travel trailers, and Class C motorhomes) fall well under that limit. You must be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform when you book. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country before you fly in and you are ready for your Saluda RV trip.

Roadside help covers situations like flat tires, jump starts, lockouts, and towing on routes like US-378 or I-20 toward Columbia. Pro tip: review the coverage options carefully during booking, then save the 24/7 RVezy support number to your phone before pickup.

lakemurraycountry.com/listing-categories/visiting-the-region/saluda-county/Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Saluda?
Yes, RV delivery in Saluda is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who do not want to drive a motorhome on day one. Delivery fees are typically based on mileage from the host's location. Pro tip: filter for Delivery on RVezy, then message two or three hosts with your destination to compare quotes for your Saluda RV trip.

eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Saluda?

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Saluda%2C%20South%20CarolinaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book your RV rental in Saluda through RVezy, you pay by credit or debit card directly on the platform (never in cash to the host), with the full trip cost split between a deposit at booking and the balance closer to your trip. A refundable security deposit is also placed on hold during your rental, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV, and it is released after the host confirms the RV came back in the same condition. To avoid issues, take time-stamped photos and a short video of the interior and exterior at both pickup and dropoff. Pro tip: review the host's mileage and generator hour policies during your walk-through so there are no surprises on the final invoice.
