Sans Souci camping overview
Sans Souci sits just northwest of downtown Greenville in the Upstate region of South Carolina, at the edge of the Blue Ridge foothills. RV renters use it as a base for exploring both the city and the surrounding mountains, with campgrounds ranging from a full-service state park to private RV parks and a KOA.
The closest public option is Paris Mountain State Park, located about five miles north of Greenville, with activities including hiking, biking, swimming, and picnicking. The campground has 39 paved sites with water and electric hookups, 13 of which include tent pads, plus five trailside walk-in sites around the North Lake Trail Loop and cabins. Private options include Springwood RV Park south of downtown, Ivy Acres RV Park, and the Travelers Rest / N Greenville KOA Holiday further north near the North Carolina line.
Group travelers with youth organizations can also look at Girl Scouts of South Carolina–Mountains to Midlands facilities. Together these campgrounds cover overnight stopovers, weekend family trips, and longer stays for RV renters visiting the Greenville area.
Things to do near Sans Souci
Paris Mountain State Park offers a 15-mile multi-use trail system for hiking and biking, along with park lakes including the 13-acre Lake Placid, plus a designated swimming area open during summer months. Canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats are seasonally available for rental, and private boats are not permitted. Mountain bikes are not allowed on trails or in the park on Saturdays, so plan riding days accordingly.
In town, families can walk the Reedy River at Falls Park and ride the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail, a multi-use rail trail greenway that links Travelers Rest with downtown Greenville. Day trips reach Caesars Head State Park, Table Rock State Park, and designated trout streams in the surrounding Blue Ridge foothills.

The Paris Mountain State Park campground is open year round, but demand and conditions shift sharply by season. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping in the Upstate, with mild days and cooler nights. Wildflowers and fall color drive higher weekend demand at the state park during these shoulder seasons, and weekends can book out well in advance.
Summer brings hot, humid weather and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, but it is also when the Paris Mountain swimming area operates and when families book most heavily. July is typically the wettest and most humid month, so shaded sites and hookups with reliable power for air conditioning matter.
Winters in Greenville County are cool rather than harsh, with January the coldest month and an average of about 44 frosty nights a year. Freezing temperatures can occur any time from November through April, so winter RV campers should be prepared for freeze protection on water lines. Daytime highs almost always climb above freezing, making short winter stays practical.

Great RV! Super clean. Prompt delivery and pick up! Jonathan is a great host!

This was an incredible camping experience! It was the ideal way to camp, as we had always used tents before. It was fantastic that the RV was delivered and ready to use! There was ample space for my family to enjoy the room without feeling cramped. A big storm rolled in, and it was a great place to come together and use the appliances inside to cook dinner and watch a movie as a family. I highly recommend this rental for anyone seeking a great camping stay, and for anyone who has always wanted to try out the RV experience!

How to book campgrounds near Sans Souci
Paris Mountain State Park is reserved through the South Carolina State Parks system. To make a reservation or view current rates, call toll-free 1-866-345-PARK or use the state parks reservations page. Reservations may be made up to 13 months in advance, require a minimum of two nights, and stays requested less than one day before check-in must be made directly through the park. The five trailside sites around the North Lake Trail Loop are reservable only through the park by calling 864-244-5565 between 11am and 5pm.
Private parks handle their own reservations. Springwood RV Park, Ivy Acres RV Park, and the Travelers Rest / N Greenville KOA Holiday book directly by phone or through their websites. Girl Scouts of South Carolina–Mountains to Midlands sites are reserved through the council for member and group use.
What to expect on-site
At Paris Mountain State Park, the 39 paved campsites accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs, with some sites taking rigs up to 40 feet and others up to 35 feet. Each site includes water and electric hookups, a picnic table, and a fire ring, and 13 sites have tent pads. Amenities include potable water, flush toilets, hot-water showers, and a dump station. visitgreenvillesc.com/blog/stories/post/best-places-to-go-camping-in-greenville/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Sans Souci, SC?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Sans Souci. South Carolina only requires a Class E or Class F non-commercial license for recreational vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) over 26,000 pounds, and nearly every RV on RVezy, including campervans, travel trailers, Class C motorhomes, and even most Class A rigs, falls well under that limit. You'll need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking. International visitors should pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from their home auto club before traveling. That's it, you're road-ready.

Roadside assistance helps with flat tires, jump-starts, lockouts, and towing whether you are parked at Paris Mountain State Park or rolling toward Asheville. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number in your phone before pickup so you are set for a worry-free Sans Souci RV trip.

You can view the full cancellation terms on RVezy's Help Center before you book. Pro tip: book Paris Mountain 6+ months ahead for fall weekends, it's the most popular state park campground in the Upstate.
southcarolinaparks.com/paris-mountain/campingWhen is the best time of year to take an RV trip from Sans Souci, SC?
The Upstate gives you nearly year-round RV weather, but the sweet spots are spring (April to May) when dogwoods bloom and highs hit the low 80s, and fall (late September through early November) for vibrant Blue Ridge foliage and crisp 65 to 80°F hiking days. Summer (June to August) is warm and humid with highs of 85 to 92°F, so look for shaded sites and full hookups so you can run the air conditioning. Winters are mild with highs in the 40s and 50s, making off-season RV camping in Sans Souci genuinely pleasant. Pro tip: time your trip with Fall for Greenville in mid-October, a beloved downtown food and music festival that's an easy drive from any local campground.

Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery), showing you how the slide-outs, water, propane, generator, and dump connections work. You can message the host before booking with any question, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included on every trip. For your first Sans Souci RV trip, start with a Class C motorhome or a delivered travel trailer to skip towing entirely. Pro tip: book a 2 to 3 night shakedown stay at Paris Mountain State Park, just 10 minutes from Sans Souci, so you can practice systems close to home before venturing toward Lake Jocassee or Asheville.
visitgreenvillesc.com/blog/stories/post/best-places-to-go-camping-in-greenville/What happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan, so flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and tows are a phone call away whether you are parked at a Greenville-area RV park or stopped along I-85 toward Spartanburg. Your host is also a quick text away for questions about the RV's systems, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: take a 60-second video walkthrough at pickup with your host, save the roadside assistance number in your phone, and note the nearest service area before heading out from Sans Souci.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Sans Souci RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, which makes Sans Souci a great launchpad for an RV road trip. Popular routes include Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway (about 60 miles), the Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance at Cherokee, NC (about 120 miles), Atlanta, GA (about 140 miles), and Charleston, SC (about 200 miles). Travel into Canada is permitted by some hosts depending on their coverage, so message the host directly from the listing to confirm before booking. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. Pro tip: the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance near Asheville is the single most scenic day-trip route from the Upstate.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Sans Souci RV trip?
Fuel is one of the biggest variables, but the Upstate makes it manageable. Greenville-area gas recently averaged around $3.81 per gallon for regular and about $5.64 for diesel, and South Carolina consistently runs below the national average thanks to lower state fuel taxes. Plan for roughly 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, and 12 to 18 MPG for a campervan or tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. For a 300-mile round trip to Asheville and back, budget $90 to $130 in fuel for most motorhomes. Pro tip: fill up at Costco off Woodruff Road or warehouse stations on the south side of Greenville, they typically run 20 to 40 cents cheaper than highway exits.
gasprices.aaa.com/?state=SCHow far in advance should I reserve a campground near Sans Souci?
Book early and you'll have your pick. South Carolina State Parks (including Paris Mountain, Table Rock, Devils Fork, and Jones Gap) take reservations up to 13 months in advance through the official southcarolinaparks.com reservation system, and prime weekends in October sell out the day they open. Private parks like Springwood RV Park and Travelers Rest/North Greenville KOA usually need 1 to 3 months for weekends and 2 to 4 weeks midweek. Maximum stay at state park sites is 14 nights. Pro tip: if Paris Mountain is full, set a calendar alert and check back, cancellations happen 7 to 14 days out as people finalize plans, and that's your window to grab a spot 5 miles from downtown Greenville.
southcarolinaparks.com/rules-regulationsWhat are the local driving conditions like around Sans Souci, SC?
Driving an RV around Sans Souci is very manageable. The neighborhood sits just northwest of downtown Greenville with easy access to US-25 and I-385, and most roads are wide and well-maintained. Expect afternoon traffic on Wade Hampton Boulevard and around I-85 between 4 and 6 PM on weekdays. Heading toward Paris Mountain State Park, the access road (State Park Road) is winding with some narrow turns, so larger Class A rigs should take it slow. The Blue Ridge foothills mean some grades when driving north toward Travelers Rest and Caesars Head. Pro tip: avoid downtown Greenville's Main Street area in an RV (low parking, narrow streets) and use delivery or a tow vehicle for in-town visits to Falls Park and the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
scdot.org/travel/travel-trafficcameras.aspxWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Sans Souci?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped for RV camping in Sans Souci. Paris Mountain State Park offers water and electric sites, restrooms, hot showers, and a centrally located dump station. Springwood RV Park provides full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, and laundry. Travelers Rest/North Greenville KOA adds a pool, dog park, and cable hookups. State parks typically have potable water fill stations near the entrance, and SCDNR keeps facilities clean and well-staffed. Pro tip: if you're boondocking or staying somewhere without a dump station, the Springwood RV Park and the Travelers Rest KOA both accept day-use dump fees ($10 to $20), so you don't have to drive far to empty your tanks before returning your rental.
southcarolinaparks.com/paris-mountainWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in Sans Souci?
Local rentals come well-stocked for a comfortable Upstate trip. A motorhome rental in Sans Souci typically includes a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 4 to 8 people, air conditioning, a furnace, a TV, and seatbelted seats for travel. Many hosts include a generator for off-grid power, and some offer Wi-Fi hotspots as an add-on. Travel trailers and fifth wheels have similar interiors but need a tow vehicle (or delivery). Campervan rentals in Sans Souci (Class B) are more compact, ideal for couples heading to Lake Jocassee or the Blue Ridge Parkway. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity icons closely, things like outdoor speakers, awning lights, and bike racks vary by host and can really upgrade your stay.
visitgreenvillesc.com/blog/stories/post/best-places-to-go-camping-in-greenville/What add-ons and pickup options should I expect when booking?
Hosts in Sans Souci offer a wide range of add-ons to customize your trip: linens and bedding ($25 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), camp chairs, outdoor grills, generators, bike racks, and even pre-stocked groceries from some hosts. Mileage policies range from 100 miles per day to unlimited (filter for what fits your trip). Pro tip: if you're heading to Table Rock or Lake Jocassee for a 4-night trip, the unlimited mileage option often pays for itself after just 250 to 300 miles, and frees you to detour to Caesars Head State Park's stunning overlook.
visitgreenvillesc.com/blog/stories/post/best-places-to-go-camping-in-greenville/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay directly through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card when you book, never in cash to the host. Most hosts require a refundable security deposit, which is held (not charged) on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the RV is returned in the same condition. Deposit amounts vary by RV and are shown on the listing before you book. To avoid any issues, do a walkthrough video at pickup and drop-off with your host, and keep all communication inside the RVezy app. Pro tip: returning the RV clean, with tanks dumped and fuel topped off, is the fastest path to getting your full deposit back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park or stay overnight in an RV around Sans Souci besides campgrounds?
You have solid options around Sans Souci. Many Walmart and Cracker Barrel locations in the Greenville metro allow free overnight RV parking when you ask the manager first, so call ahead before you arrive. Harvest Hosts members can stay overnight at participating Upstate wineries, farms, and breweries for a memorable stop. South Carolina rest areas and roadside shoulders are not set up for overnight RV camping, so plan a proper stop instead. Pro tip: for your last night before drop-off, book a one-night spot at a full-hookup park near Greenville so you can dump tanks, refill water, and return the RV stress-free in the morning.
