Campgrounds and RV parks near Slater-Marietta, SC

Hiking is the headline activity. The Middle Saluda River, South Carolina's first designated scenic river, runs through Jones Gap State Park and offers trout fishing. Trails connect Jones Gap with Caesars Head, and one of the most popular routes is the four-mile round trip Raven Cliff Falls trail, which leads to a scenic overlook of the 420-foot Raven Cliff Falls. A longer 6.6-mile round trip hike reaches a suspension bridge that crosses the creek above the falls. Paris Mountain State Park has nine trails for hiking and mountain biking, with routes ranging from easy to strenuous, along with several small lakes and a summer swimming area at Lake Placid. Downtown Greenville and Travelers Rest are a short drive south, with the Swamp Rabbit Trail providing a paved cycling route between the two.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in the Slater-Marietta area. March through May brings wildflowers, running waterfalls, and daytime highs in the mid-60s to upper-70s, while September through early November offers cooler nights and fall color along the escarpment. These shoulder seasons see the heaviest use at Paris Mountain and Jones Gap, and state park sites can be reserved up to 13 months in advance. Summer is warm and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common and highs frequently in the upper 80s to low 90s. Swimming at Paris Mountain and shaded creekside sites at private parks help offset the heat. Peak family travel runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Winter is the quiet season. Greenville typically has around 44 frosty nights a year, and freezing temperatures can occur from November through April, but hard freezes are usually brief and daytime temperatures typically climb above 40. Some private parks reduce services in winter, so confirm hookups and bathhouse status before booking. Trail closures from past storm damage can also affect Jones Gap access.

Roads into the area are two-lane and winding once travelers leave I-85 or Highway 25. U.S. 276 north of Marietta climbs steeply toward Caesars Head, so drivers with larger RVs should plan routes carefully and expect slow going on grades. At Paris Mountain State Park, 39 sites are paved, each with individual water and electrical hookups, with some sites accommodating RVs up to 40 feet and others up to 35 feet. Amenities include potable water, flush toilets, hot showers, trash collection, and a dump station. A vehicle must remain on site for the duration of the stay. Private parks such as Travelers Rest / N Greenville KOA Holiday offer full hookups, 30- and 50-amp service, laundry, a seasonal pool, and a dump station, with deluxe patio sites, stone fire rings, and some sites offering up to 50-amp electrical service.
