Campgrounds near Utica, South Carolina
Utica is a small unincorporated community in Anderson County, South Carolina, set in the Upstate between Clemson and Anderson and within easy reach of Lake Hartwell. The area sits along the northern arm of the lake, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Savannah, Tugaloo, and Seneca Rivers. Lake Hartwell covers roughly 56,000 acres with 962 miles of shoreline, making water-based camping the main draw for RV travelers here.
Most campgrounds nearby cluster around the lake or along the Clemson-Pendleton corridor. Options include The Point RV at Lake Hartwell and Anderson / Lake Hartwell KOA Holiday for lakeside stays, Clemson RV Park at the Grove and T. Ed Garrison Arena for event access to Clemson University, and Misty Lake RV Park for a quieter Westminster-area base.
Access is straightforward. I-85 bisects the lake and connects the main campground clusters, and paved approach roads accommodate large rigs and trailers throughout the area.
Things to do near Utica
Lake Hartwell is the anchor activity. Fishing is the most popular pursuit, with largemouth bass, striped and hybrid bass, crappie, bream, and catfish all common catches. The lake also supports boating, water skiing, swimming, and paddling, with public boat ramps and swim beaches spread along both the South Carolina and Georgia shorelines.
On land, the Clemson Experimental Forest sits just north of Utica and offers hiking, mountain-biking, and equestrian trails divided among the Todds Creek, Issaqueena, and Fant's Grove areas. The Fant's Grove system near T. Ed Garrison Arena has parking trailheads off Woodburn Road and Fant's Grove Road.
For day trips, the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway (SC 11) climbs into the Blue Ridge foothills, and Lake Hartwell State Park near Fair Play adds a hiking trail, boat ramp, and picnic areas.

54° / 32°F 105 mmCool and quiet; several Corps campgrounds closed
The Clemson-Hartwell area has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers, cool winters, and rainfall spread fairly evenly through the year. Summer is the peak camping season on Lake Hartwell, and Corps of Engineers campgrounds and private parks fill up quickly around holiday weekends and Clemson home football dates in the fall.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. Daytime highs are mild, humidity is lower, and the shoulder seasons see less demand at lakeside sites. Fall foliage along the Cherokee Foothills corridor peaks in late October and early November.
Winter is quieter. Several Corps campgrounds on Hartwell Lake operate seasonally and close from roughly late fall through early spring, though a few sites such as Twin Lakes remain open year-round. Snow is uncommon but brief cold snaps do occur, so travelers should confirm campground open dates and check for any freeze advisories before arrival.
How to book campgrounds near Utica
Corps of Engineers campgrounds on Lake Hartwell are reserved through Recreation.gov, which uses a rolling six-month booking window that opens daily at 10 a.m. Eastern. Popular loops book out early for summer weekends and Clemson football home games, and a cancellation fee applies once a reservation is made, so lock in dates only after confirming the trip.
Private parks such as The Point RV at Lake Hartwell, Clemson RV Park at the Grove, Misty Lake RV Park, and Anderson / Lake Hartwell KOA Holiday take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. T. Ed Garrison Arena's full-service sites are used mainly by event patrons and, when available, are released for Clemson football tailgating.
What to expect
Expect wooded, gently sloping lakeside sites at the Corps campgrounds, with mixed hardwoods and pines providing shade. Most developed loops offer water and electric hookups, comfort stations with showers, dump stations, boat ramps, and swim beaches. Full sewer hookups are more common at private RV parks than at Corps sites.
Roads and pads accommodate big rigs at Clemson RV Park at the Grove and Anderson / Lake Hartwell KOA Holiday, though maximum RV length varies by park and site, so verify before booking. Gate hours at Corps campgrounds are typically enforced, with check-in in the mid-afternoon and quiet hours overnight.
Cell coverage is generally reliable near I-85, Clemson, and Anderson but can thin out on lake peninsulas. Grocery, fuel, and RV supplies are easy to find in Anderson, Seneca, and Clemson.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Utica, SC
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Utica, SC?
RV rental in Utica, SC is surprisingly affordable compared to most upstate getaways. On RVezy, travel trailers typically run $75 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $150 to $250, and larger Class A rigs sit between $200 and $400. Because hosts in the Pickens County area set their own pricing, you'll find plenty of cheap RV rental Utica options if you book midweek or outside summer holiday weekends. Pro tip: trips of five nights or longer often unlock weekly discounts, and shoulder-season stays in March, April, or October can shave 20 to 30 percent off peak rates. Use the price filter to dial in your budget before you message a host.
discoversouthcarolina.com/articles/upstate-camping-and-rv-parksWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Utica, SC?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Utica, SC. South Carolina does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for motorhomes or travel trailers used recreationally, so your everyday Class D license covers Class A, Class B, and Class C motorhomes as well as fifth wheels and travel trailers. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and you'll verify your ID through the platform during checkout, which usually takes just a few minutes. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Grab an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before you fly in and you're set.
scdmvonline.com/Driver-Services/Drivers-LicenseIs my RV rental in Utica protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Utica, SC booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV, and you choose the coverage level that fits your comfort during checkout (not the host). It is not traditional auto insurance, but it gives renters meaningful financial protection if the unexpected happens on a Lake Hartwell weekend or a Blue Ridge mountain drive. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers side by side before you confirm so you know exactly what is included for your Pickens County trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Utica RV rental?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy, and there is a short grace period after you book where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, your refund amount depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. Because the policy is handled platform-wide, you will not see a separate cancellation policy on each listing. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or offers travel credit so your plans stay on track. Pro tip: lock in the RV you love early to secure peak Lake Jocassee weekends, and reach out to RVezy support if your plans shift.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Utica options are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs. Pickens County is a dream for dog owners: Table Rock State Park, Devils Fork State Park on Lake Jocassee, and Lake Hartwell State Park all allow leashed pets on trails and at campsites. Twin Falls Heritage Preserve in nearby Sunset is another tail-wagging favorite with a short hike to a stunning waterfall. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and to mention your dog's size, breed, and shedding level so check-in is smooth.
southcarolinaparks.com/plan-your-visit/pets-in-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Utica?
Yes, RV delivery Utica is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a big rig. Many local hosts will deliver your motorhome or travel trailer straight to Table Rock State Park, Devils Fork, Keowee-Toxaway, or a private property within a set radius of Utica, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees are typically a flat rate plus per-mile cost for trips beyond about 25 miles. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on RVezy, then message two or three hosts with your campground name and dates to compare quotes quickly.
southcarolinaparks.com/table-rockHow far can I travel on an RV trip from Utica, SC?
You can roam plenty on a Utica RV trip thanks to its central upstate location. Lake Hartwell sits about 21 miles west, Table Rock State Park is roughly 25 miles north, Devils Fork State Park on Lake Jocassee is around 35 miles northwest, Caesars Head State Park is about 50 miles northeast, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance at Cherokee, NC is right around 110 miles away. Most RVezy hosts include a daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 miles) with additional miles available for a small per-mile fee, and a few offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pro tip: map your full route before booking so you can pick the mileage package that actually fits.

You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping Utica. Table Rock State Park (about 25 miles north in Pickens) offers 94 RV-friendly sites with water and electric hookups under the shadow of its iconic granite dome. Devils Fork State Park on Lake Jocassee has 59 paved sites with full hookups and access to the clearest water in the state. Lake Hartwell State Park, just off I-85, offers 115 lakeside sites perfect for boating weekends. Oconee State Park near Walhalla and Keowee-Toxaway State Park round out the list with mountain and lake views. Pro tip: South Carolina State Parks let you reserve up to 13 months ahead, and you'll want to for any summer weekend.
southcarolinaparks.com/reservationsWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Utica?
The sweet spot for an RV road trip from Utica runs from mid-March through early June and again from mid-September through early November, when daytime highs sit comfortably in the 65 to 80 F range and humidity stays manageable. Summers (June to August) bring highs in the upper 80s to low 90s with afternoon thunderstorms, which is still great for lake days at Hartwell and Jocassee if your rig has solid air conditioning. Winters are mild with daytime temps usually in the 45 to 55 F range, so RVing is a year-round option here. Pro tip: October weekends light up the Blue Ridge foothills with fall color, so book those dates early.
weather.gov/gsp/climateI'm first-time renting an RV in Utica. What should I know?
You are going to do great, first time renting an RV is one of the most common experiences on RVezy and hosts are pros at making it easy. Every booking includes a hands-on walkthrough at pickup where your host shows you how to operate the generator, slide-outs, awning, water system, propane, and dump valves. You can message the host with any question before booking, and many in the Utica area offer delivery so the RV is set up and ready when you arrive. You only need a regular driver's license, and approved renters on RVezy are generally 25 or older. Pro tip: pick a smaller Class C or travel trailer for your first trip, and plan a short shakedown night close to home (Lake Hartwell is perfect) before tackling the mountain roads up toward Caesars Head.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if I have a breakdown or roadside issue during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Utica, SC booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan, covering tows, tire changes, lockouts, jump starts, and emergency fuel delivery across the U.S. and Canada. If something happens on US-123 heading toward Clemson or on the winding stretch of SC-11 (the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway), one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also a quick text away for system questions, and RVezy customer support backs you up before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before you pull out of the driveway.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Utica RV rental across state lines to Georgia or North Carolina?
Yes, an RV road trip from Utica naturally spills into Georgia and North Carolina, and most RVezy hosts welcome cross-state travel because the renter protection plan and roadside assistance apply across the U.S. and Canada. Popular routes include the 90-minute drive south to Athens, GA, the two-hour run to Asheville, NC and the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the roughly three-hour push to the Great Smoky Mountains. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: confirm your itinerary with the host during the message exchange so they can flag any mileage limits and recommend their favorite stops along SC-11 or US-25.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an Utica RV trip?
Fuel is one of the friendlier line items here because South Carolina consistently posts some of the lowest gas prices in the country. Expect Class B campervans to deliver 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, Class A rigs 6 to 10 MPG, and a truck pulling a travel trailer 10 to 14 MPG. For a 250-mile loop from Utica to Lake Jocassee, Caesars Head, and back, plan on roughly $60 to $120 in fuel depending on rig size. Pro tip: top up at the Pilot or Loves along I-85 near Anderson before heading into the mountains, since prices climb noticeably once you're up around Sunset and Salem.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Utica?
For peak weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, and any October fall-color Saturday), book your campground the moment your dates are firm, because South Carolina State Parks open reservations 13 months in advance and the popular sites at Table Rock, Devils Fork, and Lake Hartwell fill within hours. Midweek and shoulder-season stays are much easier and often bookable two to four weeks out. Reservations run through the official South Carolina State Parks system and Recreation.gov for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites on Lake Hartwell. Pro tip: if you strike out at Devils Fork, check Keowee-Toxaway State Park just up the road, it's quieter and almost as gorgeous.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2991What are local driving conditions like around Utica, SC?
Driving an RV around Utica is genuinely manageable, even for first-timers. The area sits in the gentle rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge, so most main routes (US-123, US-178, and SC-11, the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway) are well-paved two- to four-lane roads with reasonable grades. The trickier stretches are the climbs up toward Caesars Head on US-276 and the winding switchbacks heading to Sassafras Mountain, where you'll want to use lower gears and take it slow. Summer afternoons bring quick thunderstorms, so check radar before you roll. Pro tip: avoid driving through downtown Greenville and Clemson on Saturdays during football season, traffic gets thick fast.
511sc.org/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Utica?
Campgrounds near Utica are well-equipped for a comfortable RV camping Utica experience. Table Rock State Park, Devils Fork, and Lake Hartwell State Park all offer water and electric hookups (20/30/50 amp), with Devils Fork providing full hookups including sewer. Each park has dump stations, potable water fill stations, hot showers, flush toilets, and laundry facilities. Cell service is solid at Hartwell and patchy in the mountains around Table Rock. Most sites include a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. Pro tip: stop at the dump station and freshwater fill on your way out, the one at Table Rock is right near the campground exit and rarely has a line on weekday mornings.
southcarolinaparks.com/devils-forkWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Utica?
You'll find more comfort than you expect inside a motorhome rental Utica or campervan rental Utica. Most listings include a queen or king bed, a kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, dinette seating that converts to a bed, roof-mounted air conditioning, a furnace, and seatbelted seats for everyone traveling. Many rigs also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, an awning, and a generator for off-grid use. Wi-Fi varies, so plan to use your phone hotspot in remote areas like Jocassee Gorges. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count to match your group exactly, a family RV trip Utica is much more pleasant when no one's sleeping on the dinette unless they want to.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/393.93What add-ons and extras can I get with my Utica RV rental?
Hosts in Utica love stacking on the extras that make a trip easier. Common add-ons include camping kits (chairs, table, outdoor rug), kitchen and linen packages, generators, portable propane fire pits (a must, since many SC state parks restrict ground fires during dry spells), bike racks, kayak racks, and Starlink Wi-Fi. Delivery and setup, pickup at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP), and propane top-offs are also popular options. Mileage policies vary by host: some include 100 to 150 free miles per day, others offer flat-rate or unlimited mileage. Pro tip: bundle add-ons during the initial booking rather than after, several hosts offer a small discount when you grab two or more extras at once.
gspairport.com/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is handled entirely through RVezy, so you never hand cash or a card directly to the host. You pay your trip total (rental, fees, add-ons, and protection plan) when you book using a credit or debit card. The refundable security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is placed as a hold on your card shortly before pickup, then released after the trip once the host confirms the RV was returned in good shape. Deposit amounts vary by listing and rig size. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos of the interior, exterior, and odometer at both pickup and drop-off so any questions are easy to resolve quickly.
