Campgrounds and RV parks near Valley Falls, SC

Croft State Park anchors outdoor recreation in the area. The park offers more than 17 miles of biking and hiking trails, a playground, picnicking and camping, plus fishing and boating on two lakes, including 165-acre Lake Craig. Non-motorized fishing boats, canoes, and kayaks are available to rent from the park office. Private boats are permitted on Lake Craig but are restricted to electric trolling motors. Croft is also a regional equestrian hub, with a show arena, stables, and dedicated horse trails, and hosts horse shows on the third Saturday of most months. Off-park options include downtown Spartanburg for dining, breweries, and the Chapman Cultural Center, plus quick trips to Greenville and the Blue Ridge foothills. Cowpens National Battlefield and Kings Mountain National Military Park sit within an easy drive for Revolutionary War history.

The Upstate has a humid subtropical climate, with long, hot, humid summers and cool to semi-mild winters. Rainfall is spread fairly evenly through the year, though heavy downpours and afternoon thunderstorms are common during the warmer months. Snowfall is light and infrequent, averaging only about an inch and a half per year in Spartanburg. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping. Days are mild, humidity is lower than in summer, and hardwood color peaks in late October and early November. Summer brings heat, high humidity, and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so shaded sites and electrical hookups for air conditioning are worth prioritizing. Croft State Park is open year-round, but travelers should check with the park for any site-specific closures before booking, since sections of the campground and equestrian area are occasionally taken offline on a rotating basis for maintenance. Weekends in spring and fall fill quickly, and the third-Saturday horse shows at Croft can affect equestrian-site availability.

Sites at Croft are developed for RV use. Each site has a packed gravel pad with water and electrical hookups, and some sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. Twenty-five of the campsites in the Lake Campground offer 20/30/50 amp service, while the Inland Campground sites are 30 amp. Both loops have restrooms with hot showers, and the park has a central dump station and a small camp store selling ice, firewood, and basic supplies. Expect standard state-park rules on pets and firewood. Pets are allowed in camping areas but must be on a leash no greater than 6 feet or crated at all times, and cannot be left unattended. All firewood brought into South Carolina State Parks must be sourced from within the state and from less than 50 miles away. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the Spartanburg area, and grocery, fuel, and RV supply stops are close to I-85.
