Campgrounds and RV parks near Woodruff, SC

Croft State Park anchors the outdoor options close to Woodruff. The 165-acre Lake Craig offers excellent fishing opportunities for bass, bream, and catfish, plus kayak and canoe rentals, and over 20 miles of multi-use trails wind through the park, popular with hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. Private boats are permitted on the lake, but are restricted to electric trolling motors. Woodruff also makes a practical base for day trips across the Upstate. Downtown Greenville, Spartanburg, and Greer are all within roughly a 30-minute drive, with restaurants, breweries, museums, and Falls Park on the Reedy in Greenville. Paris Mountain State Park adds more paddling and hiking options a short drive north.

The Upstate has a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot summers and cool winters, with rainfall fairly wet and spread fairly evenly throughout the year, though heavy seasonal downpours or afternoon thunderstorms can occur during the warmer months. The area receives little snowfall. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for tent and RV camping, with warm days, cool nights, and lower humidity. Summer weekends fill quickly at both private parks and Croft State Park, driven by lake activity and holiday travel. Book several weeks out for June through August and for any weekend near Memorial Day, July 4, or Labor Day. Winters are mild but damp. Most campgrounds in this region remain open year-round due to the temperate climate. Snowfall days are limited, with light snow possible from January through March. Freezing overnight lows can still hit, so winterize water lines and confirm the park keeps hookups active in cold snaps. Note that during the winter 2026 to 2027 season, select camping and equestrian sites at Croft State Park will be temporarily closed on a rotating basis for remediation work, with closures occurring in phases rather than all at once.

Expect a mix of wooded and open sites at the private parks around Woodruff. Cell service is typically usable across the area, which helps for streaming or remote work between trips. At Croft State Park, sites are basic but functional. The 50-site family campground is divided into two areas, with the Inland section offering 30-amp electrical service and the Lakeside section offering 20/30/50-amp service and easier access to Lake Craig. Each site features packed gravel pads, water and electric hookups, a fire ring with grill, and a picnic table. The campground provides restrooms with hot showers, a dump station, and a park store. Firewood must be sourced locally: all firewood brought into South Carolina State Parks must be from within the state and from less than 50 miles away. Plan on buying wood at or near the park rather than hauling it from home.
