Campgrounds near Arlington, Tennessee
Arlington sits in eastern Shelby County, about 25 miles from downtown Memphis and within easy reach of the Mississippi River bluffs. RV travelers use the town as a quieter base than central Memphis, with campgrounds ranging from full-hookup urban parks to forested state park sites. Interstate 40 runs just south of town, making trips west toward Memphis or east toward Nashville straightforward.
The closest option for full hookups is Agricenter RV Park, near the Agricenter International complex on Walnut Grove Road, which offers water, 30 and 50-amp electrical service, sewer hookups, laundry and shower facilities. Cook's Lake RV Resort and Campground and Travelers Camper Park Campground provide additional private-park options in the corridor between Arlington and Memphis.
For state park camping, Fort Pillow State Park sits on the western edge of Tennessee, about 40 miles north of Memphis, overlooking the Mississippi River, and Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park encompasses 12,539 acres of bottomland hardwood forest along the Mississippi River, offering a natural escape just north of Memphis.
Things to do near Arlington
Outdoor activity centers on the river bluffs and hardwood forests west of town. Meeman-Shelby Forest sits atop the scenic Chickasaw Bluffs and features over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails through cypress swamps and hardwood forests. Poplar Tree Lake provides fishing opportunities and boat rentals. Wildlife viewing is excellent, with abundant deer, wild turkeys, and diverse bird species.
At Fort Pillow State Park, visitors can explore historic fortifications, hike the trail system along the Chickasaw Bluffs, and tour the museum and reconstructed inner fort. Closer to Arlington, Agricenter RV Park guests can access the surrounding Shelby Farms trail network for biking, disc golf, and paddling. Downtown Memphis attractions, including Beale Street, Graceland, and the National Civil Rights Museum, are a short drive west via I-40.

West Tennessee has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers, mild shoulder seasons, and cool winters. Spring and fall bring the most comfortable RV weather; summer months can be hot and humid, while winter brings cooler temperatures and occasional freezes. Spring storms and river flooding can occasionally affect low-lying access roads near the bluffs.
State park campgrounds in the region generally operate year-round, but individual sites and roads can close for maintenance. Due to erosion issues, One Way Road, past the campground at Meeman-Shelby, is closed. Visitors should not try to access these areas for their safety. Travelers should confirm campground status with the park before booking. Fort Pillow's family campground generally operates year-round.
Summer weekends and the Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day holidays are the busiest booking periods. Sites at both state parks fill several weeks out for those holiday weekends, so booking early is recommended for peak dates.
How to book
Tennessee State Park sites at Meeman-Shelby Forest and Fort Pillow are booked through the state's central system at reserve.tnstateparks.com. Advanced reservations may be made up to 1 year in advance. There is a non-refundable $5.00 Advanced Reservation Fee per campsite that provides for managing the reservation system at Tennessee State Parks. Maximum stay for camping is 14 days, extended to 28 days from December 1 to the end of February.
Standard cancellation rules apply, with reduced or no refund for late cancellations, so travelers should review the current policy at booking. Private parks such as Agricenter RV Park, Cook's Lake RV Resort and Campground, and Travelers Camper Park Campground are booked directly with the property by phone or through the operator's website.
What to expect on site
Expect a mix of open, urban-style RV parks and forested state park campgrounds. Agricenter RV Park sits near the Agricenter International complex and offers full-hookup sites with 30 and 50-amp electrical service, sewer, water, and laundry facilities, arranged in an open layout with limited shade.
State park sites are more wooded and spread out. The Meeman-Shelby campground provides 49 sites with electric and water hookups, and several sites include full sewer connections. Each site has a picnic table, grill, and fire ring. A modern bathhouse offers hot showers and flush toilets, and drinking water is available throughout the campground. A dump station serves RVs without sewer hookups. At Fort Pillow, the north side of the Family Campground has campsites that can accommodate RVs and campers with 20, 30, 50-amp electrical and water hookups. The sites vary in length, and some can accommodate rigs up to 60 feet.
Tennessee State Parks asks that all campfires be made with heat-treated wood or downed wood collected inside the park.
