Campgrounds near Bells overview
Bells is a small town in Crockett County, West Tennessee, roughly 20 miles northwest of Jackson and about 75 miles northeast of Memphis. The area sits in the rolling farmland between the Hatchie and Forked Deer river basins, and most RV camping options are clustered along the Interstate 40 corridor near Jackson or south toward Henderson.
Closest to town, Jackson RV Park and Hidden Acres RV Park offer standard hookup sites convenient to I-40 services, groceries, and fuel. Slightly farther out, Serendipity Brownsville's Venue, Resort, and RV Park offers RV sites with hookups plus alternative lodging options and is open year round. Parkway Village MH and RV Community provides longer-stay sites for travelers pausing in the region.
For a state-park experience, Wrangler Equestrian - Chickasaw State Park sits about 45 minutes south of Bells. Chickasaw is located in West Tennessee, about 30 minutes south of Jackson, sits on some of the highest terrain in the region, and offers a mix of forests, lakes, and trails supporting hiking, paddling, fishing, horseback riding, and birding.
Things to do near Bells
Chickasaw State Park anchors most outdoor plans. Anglers fish Lake Placid for bass, catfish, and crappie; boats may be rented at the park, no personal boats are allowed, and a valid Tennessee fishing license is required for persons over 13 years of age. Campers traveling with horses can bunk at the wrangler campground near the stables, and visitors without a horse can rent one at the park stables for a guided trail ride.
Off-park attractions round out a family trip. Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo is a drive-through wildlife park about 20 miles from Bells. The West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center in Brownsville is about 15 miles from Bells and showcases regional music and history exhibits, including Tina Turner's Flagg Grove Schoolhouse. Reelfoot Lake, roughly an hour and a half northwest, adds cypress-lined fishing and winter eagle viewing.

West Tennessee has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Spring and fall bring the mildest weather and the best odds of comfortable camping, while summer runs hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Winter is short but can deliver hard freezes and occasional ice storms.
Booking pressure follows school schedules. Memorial Day through Labor Day is the busiest window at Chickasaw State Park and most private RV parks in the Jackson area, and holiday weekends fill first. Shoulder-season trips in April, May, October, and early November tend to offer easier availability and cooler nights suited to campfires.
Check park status before committing to a state-park site. At Chickasaw, the tent campground and wrangler campground are closed for renovations, and travelers with upcoming reservations are asked to contact the park at 888-867-2757. Private parks near Bells generally operate year round, though pools, splash pads, and organized activities are seasonal.
How to book campgrounds near Bells
State-park sites at Chickasaw are booked through the Tennessee State Parks central reservation system at reserve.tnstateparks.com. Reservations may be made up to one year in advance, and Central Reservations can be reached at 888-867-2757. A non-refundable $5.00 advanced reservation fee applies per campsite, and most campsites require a minimum two-night stay.
Cancellation terms are straightforward for campsites. Reservations may be cancelled up to and including two days prior to the scheduled arrival date with a refund of all campground fees, minus the $5.00 fee. Cancelling one day out forfeits the first night, and same-day cancellations forfeit the first two nights on multi-night reservations.
Private parks such as Jackson RV Park, Hidden Acres RV Park, Serendipity Brownsville's Venue, Resort, and RV Park, and Parkway Village MH and RV Community are booked directly with each property by phone or website. Reserve summer weekends and any event dates in Jackson well ahead.
What to expect on arrival
Sites near Bells vary widely. Private parks along the Jackson corridor typically offer level gravel or paved pads with 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer, plus laundry and Wi-Fi at the larger properties. Confirm site length, big-rig access, and pet rules with each operator before booking.
At Chickasaw State Park, expect a more rustic setup. The RV campground has 53 sites, each with water and electrical hookups, but no individual sewer, so plan a dump-station stop on the way out. Tennessee State Parks require certified heat-treated firewood; do not bring untreated wood from home. A bathhouse serves the wrangler loop, and camp-store hours are seasonal.
Cell coverage on major carriers is reliable near I-40 and thinner inside Chickasaw's wooded interior. Bring a leash for pets, insect repellent for summer stays, and a surge protector for older private-park pedestals.
