Campgrounds near Bloomingdale
Bloomingdale is an unincorporated community in Sullivan County in northeast Tennessee, immediately north of Kingsport in the Tri-Cities region. The area sits in the Appalachian foothills near the Holston River and Fort Patrick Henry Lake, with quick access to Interstate 81 and Interstate 26. RV travelers use it as a base for lake recreation, cave tours, Bristol Motor Speedway events, and day trips into the southern Appalachians.
The closest full-service campground is Warriors' Path State Park, a Tennessee State Park on the shore of the Patrick Henry Reservoir with a large developed campground, marina, and family amenities. Private options within a short drive include Rocky Top Campground and RV Park, the Bristol / Kingsport KOA Holiday off I-81 in Blountville, and Holston Hideaway. Appalachian Caverns Campground, also in Blountville, pairs basic RV and primitive sites with guided cave tours on the property.
Most sites in the area are wooded or partly shaded, with a mix of water-and-electric state park sites and full-hookup private sites suited to larger rigs.
Things to do near Bloomingdale
Warriors' Path State Park anchors the local activity list. The park covers roughly 970 acres along the Holston River, with hiking and mountain biking trails, fishing and boating on the Patrick Henry Reservoir, kayak rentals at the marina, a golf course, and a Boundless Playground designed for children of all abilities.
Families also visit Bays Mountain Park in Kingsport for trails, a nature center, and wildlife exhibits. Appalachian Caverns in Blountville offers guided walking tours plus an off-trail Wild Tour, a gem mine, and a climbing wall, and functions as a bat sanctuary for the endangered gray bat.
Bristol Motor Speedway, historic Jonesborough, and the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol are all within about a thirty to forty minute drive, which helps with rainy-day and race-weekend planning.

46° / 30°F 85 mmCool with occasional snow; most parks stay open
The region has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are warm and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and winters are cool with occasional snow. Late winter and early spring are the wettest stretch of the year, with February and March typically the heaviest precipitation months.
Late spring through early fall is the main RV season. May, June, September, and October offer the most comfortable mix of warm days, cool nights, and lower humidity, and are strong choices for hiking and lake use. July and August bring the hottest afternoons and the highest thunderstorm frequency, so shaded sites and full hookups with air conditioning are worth prioritizing.
Warriors' Path State Park keeps its 94 water-and-electric sites open year-round, so shoulder-season and winter camping are viable, though some amenities run on a seasonal schedule. Bristol Motor Speedway race weekends in spring and late summer are the single biggest demand spikes in the Tri-Cities and drive sites to fill months ahead at every nearby campground.
How to book campgrounds near Bloomingdale
Warriors' Path State Park is reserved through the Tennessee State Parks reservation system online or by phone. Reservations are required for all campsites, must be made at least one business day in advance, and carry a non-refundable advanced reservation fee. Sites can be booked up to twelve months ahead, and demand is highest for weekends from May through October and for Bristol Motor Speedway race weekends.
Bristol / Kingsport KOA Holiday books through the KOA website or app, with staged cancellation deadlines that require longer notice for special events and holidays. Rocky Top Campground and RV Park, Holston Hideaway, and Appalachian Caverns Campground take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. For race weekends and holiday weekends, book two to three months out at minimum.
What to expect on-site
Warriors' Path State Park has 134 total campsites with picnic tables and grills, 94 of which have water and electric hookups and are available year-round, while the remaining 40 are seasonal. The Moody Bluff section adds full-hookup deluxe sites with sewer and pull-through options that can accommodate larger rigs. Restrooms and heated showers, a camp store selling firewood and basic supplies, and dump stations are on-site.
Bristol / Kingsport KOA Holiday is big-rig friendly with pull-through full-hookup sites and 30 and 50 amp service. Appalachian Caverns Campground is more rustic, with a limited number of RV hookup sites and larger areas of primitive tent camping.
Tennessee State Parks require heat-treated or park-collected firewood to limit the spread of invasive pests. Cell service in the area is generally usable on major carriers, and grocery, fuel, and medical services are close in Kingsport.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Bloomingdale, TN?

Expect to pay around $120 per night for towable travel trailers and roughly $200 per night for motorhomes, with most hosts offering 10 to 20 percent discounts on weekly and monthly bookings. Cheap RV rental Bloomingdale options are easiest to find midweek and during the shoulder months of March, April, and November. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book listings and message hosts directly about multi-night discounts. tnstateparks.com/parks/warriors-pathDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Bloomingdale, Tennessee?
Good news: a regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Bloomingdale. Tennessee does not require a commercial driver license (CDL) for personal recreational vehicles, so the standard license already in your wallet will get you behind the wheel of a Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, or travel trailer. To book on RVezy you must generally be at least 25 years old and pass identity verification at checkout. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country auto club alongside your home license. Most first-timers are amazed how little paperwork stands between them and the Holston River.

Every RV rental in Bloomingdale comes with an RVezy protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can roll into the Appalachian foothills with real peace of mind. Renter protection plans cover physical damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose the coverage tier that fits your comfort level at checkout (this is set by RVezy, not the host). Roadside assistance is included with every protection plan, so if a tire blows on I-81 or you need a jump start at Warriors' Path, one phone call gets help dispatched. Book confidently and focus on the views over Bays Mountain.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Bloomingdale RV trip?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and every reservation includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates without second-guessing. If a family emergency comes up or weather disrupts your East Tennessee plans, RVezy support reviews qualifying situations and works with you on options. Because the policy depends on how far out your trip is and the circumstances, the full details live in the RVezy Help Center rather than on each listing. Pro tip: book early to secure the best Bloomingdale rigs for Bristol Motor Speedway race weekends, knowing you have flexibility built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Bloomingdale RV rental?
Absolutely. Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental Bloomingdale options, and you can filter listings by Pet-Friendly to see them at a glance. Once you have picked a rig, message the host about any pet fees and the size or number of pets allowed. Bloomingdale is a fantastic launch pad for dog lovers: Warriors' Path State Park welcomes leashed pups on its hiking trails and along the Holston River shoreline, and Bays Mountain Park in Kingsport has miles of pet-friendly forest paths. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, your pup will need it on those summer afternoons when temperatures climb into the mid-80s.
tnstateparks.com/parks/warriors-pathCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Bloomingdale?
Yes, RV delivery Bloomingdale is one of the most popular options on the platform, and it is a game-changer for first-time renters. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV directly to Warriors' Path State Park, Rocky Top Campground, or even a friend's driveway, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees are set by the host and usually scale with distance, so a drop at Warriors' Path (just 8 miles away) costs far less than a delivery to Cherokee National Forest. Filter listings by Delivery and message the host to confirm your campsite address.
tnstateparks.com/parks/warriors-pathHow far can I travel on a Bloomingdale RV trip?
You have a huge playground within an easy day's drive of Bloomingdale. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is about 110 miles southwest (roughly 2 hours), the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance near Asheville sits 90 miles east, Pisgah National Forest is around 100 miles southeast, and Damascus, Virginia for the Creeper Trail is just 35 miles north. Each host sets a mileage policy on their listing, with daily allowances often between 100 and 200 miles and many hosts offering RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. Pro tip: if you are planning a Bloomingdale RV trip into multiple states, filter for unlimited mileage upfront to avoid overage fees.
nps.gov/grsm/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Bloomingdale, TN?
You are spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Bloomingdale start with Warriors' Path State Park (8 miles away, 134 sites on Fort Patrick Henry Lake with water and electric hookups year-round). Bristol/Kingsport KOA Holiday in Blountville offers full hookups, a pool, and a KOA Cafe. Rocky Top Campground in Blountville is a quieter, well-maintained private option. For mountain views, head 45 minutes south to Cherokee National Forest's Little Oak Campground on South Holston Lake. Pro tip: Warriors' Path books up fast for summer weekends, so reserve as soon as the six-month window opens through the Tennessee State Parks reservation system.
tnstateparks.com/parks/warriors-path/campingWhen is the best time of year for RV camping in Bloomingdale?
Spring (April to early June) and fall (late September through October) are the sweet spots for RV camping Bloomingdale. Spring brings dogwoods and redbuds in bloom with daytime highs in the 60s and 70s, while October paints the Appalachian ridges in fiery oranges and reds with crisp 50 to 70 degree afternoons. Summer (June to August) is warm and humid with highs around 85 degrees and afternoon thunderstorms, great for swimming at Warriors' Path. Winters dip to lows around 28 degrees but rarely below 14, and many hosts rent year-round with heated, winterized rigs. Pro tip: book a fall weekend before peak leaf season (mid-October) for lower rates and equally stunning color.
weather.gov/mrx/I have never driven an RV before. Is renting in Bloomingdale a good idea for first-timers?
Bloomingdale is one of the friendlier places to be a first time renting an RV. Roads are wide, traffic is light compared to Nashville or Knoxville, and most popular destinations sit on flat to gently rolling terrain along the Holston River valley. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, water, the generator, slide-outs, and dumping. Add in delivery and setup from most local hosts and you may never have to drive the rig at all. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet for your first trip, they handle much like a large truck and fit comfortably in Warriors' Path's site length limits.
tnstateparks.com/parks/warriors-pathWhat happens if I have a breakdown or problem during my Bloomingdale trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking with a protection plan includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on I-26 heading to Asheville or a dead battery at Warriors' Path is just a phone call away from help. Your host is also a direct lifeline through the in-app messaging system for questions about quirks of their specific RV, like how the awning retracts or where the fuse box hides. RVezy customer support is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save your host's number and the RVezy roadside line in your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Bloomingdale RV rental into Virginia, North Carolina, or other states?
Yes, interstate travel is one of the best parts of an RV road trip from Bloomingdale. You are about 5 minutes from the Virginia state line and around 90 minutes from North Carolina, so multi-state itineraries are the norm. Popular routes include Bloomingdale to Damascus, VA (about 35 miles), Bloomingdale to Asheville, NC (about 90 miles), and Bloomingdale to the Great Smoky Mountains (about 110 miles). RVezy insurance and protection coverage applies within the US and Canada, and travel into Mexico is not permitted. For cross-border trips into Canada, confirm with your host in the booking message before departure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Bloomingdale RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but Tennessee gas prices typically run below the national average, which helps. Class B campervans get roughly 18 to 22 miles per gallon (mpg), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A motorhomes manage 6 to 10 mpg. Towable trailers will drop your truck's normal mpg by 25 to 40 percent. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop from Bloomingdale to the Smokies and back in a Class C, plan on roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Kingsport or Bristol before heading into the mountains, prices climb noticeably once you cross into resort towns.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Bloomingdale?
For Warriors' Path State Park, book the moment the six-month reservation window opens, especially for any weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day or any Bristol Motor Speedway race weekend (the August NASCAR night race fills sites for 30 miles around). Tennessee State Parks reservations are handled online through reserve.tnstateparks.com, with a $5 non-refundable reservation fee per site. Private parks like Bristol/Kingsport KOA and Rocky Top Campground typically allow booking 12 months out. For shoulder season trips in April or October, two to four weeks ahead is usually plenty. Pro tip: keep a backup site at a private park in mind in case Warriors' Path is full.
reserve.tnstateparks.com/warriors-path/campingWhat are driving conditions like around Bloomingdale?
Driving around Bloomingdale is refreshingly manageable. The community sits in northern Sullivan County off TN-394 and TN-126, with easy access to I-26 and I-81 within 15 minutes. Roads are mostly flat to gently rolling along the Holston River, with the steeper Appalachian grades waiting if you head south toward Erwin or east toward Roan Mountain. Watch for occasional fog in the river valleys at dawn, summer afternoon thunderstorms, and the rare January ice storm. Bristol Motor Speedway race weekends (March and September) bring heavy I-81 traffic, plan to travel midday Thursday or Tuesday after. Pro tip: avoid the steep climb up TN-91 toward Shady Valley in a long Class A on your first trip.
tn.gov/tdot.htmlWhat hookups and amenities will I find at Bloomingdale-area campgrounds?
Most campgrounds near Bloomingdale offer water and 30 or 50 amp electric hookups, with full hookup (sewer) sites available at private parks like Bristol/Kingsport KOA, Rocky Top Campground, and Lakeview RV Park. Warriors' Path State Park's Main Campground has 94 year-round water and electric sites plus heated bathhouses with showers, and a dump station near the entrance for emptying tanks on your way out. Free potable water fills are typically available at the dump station too. Pro tip: many private parks include WiFi, laundry, and a pool, while state parks trade those amenities for bigger trees and lake access. Pick based on what matters most to your crew.
tnstateparks.com/parks/warriors-path/campingWhat is included inside a typical Bloomingdale RV rental?

Expect a queen or king bed, bunks or convertible dinettes that sleep additional guests, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, and a bathroom with a shower and toilet. Most Class C motorhome rental Bloomingdale options include air conditioning (essential for those humid August afternoons), a furnace for chilly fall nights, a TV, and seatbelts for everyone riding. Many hosts also add a generator, outdoor grill, camp chairs, and kitchen starter kits. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list for WiFi or a hotspot if you plan to work remotely from your campsite at Warriors' Path, cell coverage there is solid 5G on most carriers.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/393.93What add-ons and pickup options do hosts offer in Bloomingdale?
Bloomingdale hosts get creative with add-ons that make your trip easier. Common extras include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, outdoor furniture, bikes, kayaks (perfect for paddling Fort Patrick Henry Lake), generators for boondocking, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Bloomingdale, with drop-off at the same location. Many offer delivery to nearby campgrounds for an additional fee based on distance. Mileage policies vary by host, so check the listing for daily allowances and overage rates. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a linen package on your first trip, the convenience is worth every penny when you are pulling into Warriors' Path after a long drive.
tnstateparks.com/parks/warriors-pathHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RVezy rental in Bloomingdale?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through the RVezy platform, never in cash to the host. You pay the rental total at booking with a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment, typically pre-authorized on your card before pickup (amounts vary by RV and are shown on the listing). As long as you return the RV in the agreed condition, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a short walkaround video at pickup and drop-off in Bloomingdale, it is the easiest way to protect your deposit.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Bloomingdale in winter, and is it worth it?
Yes, winter RV rental Tennessee trips are absolutely doable and often a steal. Bloomingdale winters are short and mild compared to the northern US, with highs typically in the 40s and 50s and lows around 28 degrees, though brief cold snaps can dip into the teens. Look for rigs marketed as four-season or winterized, with heated holding tanks, a working furnace, and the option to use a heated water hose at shore-power sites. Warriors' Path keeps 94 sites with electric and water open year-round, and you will often have the trails and lake views to yourself. Pro tip: ask your host how to prevent the fresh water tank from freezing overnight, a simple trickle from the faucet usually does the trick.
